Tamriel or Akavir

I would pick Tamriel. They should have at least one game for each province before they go into the other territorys eh?

Let's lay down a few points for all you Oblivion fans:
  • Not all Daedra are evil, nor do they all want to invade Tamriel. The Daedra are not a cliche'd "evil demonic race", like, say, the Burning Legion. All of you who want another Daedric invasion have been using too much Skooma.
  • Akavir is barely mentioned in past games, and then in Oblivion they hype it and you want to go there ASAP - its mystery is part of its beauty. Those who want to go there (at least within the next 2 games or so) have been using too much Skooma.
  • The Dwemer are not coming back. You haven't played Morrowind but you're hungry for them to come back, because it'd be cool, and you want guns. They aren't coming back, which is why they're so awesome, and those who say otherwise have been using too much Skooma.
  • Everybody who thinks Skyrim would be a boring location because you don't like snow is a fool, because Norway and similar locales throughout Earth are home to a wide variety of climates and ecosystems. Those who think it's just a barren tundra have been using too much Skooma.
  • Skooma was in Morrowind, and despite being way more "lawless" than Cyrodiil, Oblivion seems to have done the impossible and flanderized an inanimate object. All these funny intoxicated NPCs and smuggling dens are overdone, cliche'd and boring. There shouldn't be so much Skooma reference in TES V, and those who say otehrwise have been using too much Skooma.

/rage

Now if you'll excuse me, I must retreat to the safety of my underground bunker. It can only be penetrated by spears and crossbows. :ahhh:

Cop on I love oblivion and I know all the stuff you guys keep on saying I don't and I have played morrowind so stop making me want to :flamethrower: everyone on this sub section of the elder scrolls forums.

Tamriel.

I wouldn't want them to open up akavir at all.. though if they must, rather after they've exhausted everything in tamriel first.

Tamriel, like so many others I think Akavir should remain mysterious. As for the side matter of OB butchering TES lore, something is only canon until something new changes that canon.

How exactly did Oblivion "butcher" the lore?

Tamriel, because it's kinda too soon to reveal Akavir. Akavir has been a mysterious land so far and I want it to remain as it is.

Tamriel, by far. Akavir is one of those mysteries, like the Dwemer, that I love to only be able to speculate on the basis of a handful of books about. I never want to see it. But, unfortunatly, I have the feeling we're going to see an expansion that doesn't give Akavir any justice, at all.

Silly question. It's been the basis of many arguments on these forums. I can't believe you haven't saw one.

Basically, Cyrodiil was supposed to be a jungle. They weren't even going to explain the situation. MK had to come up with something out of his own rage. I don't know if it's even canon or not.

And no, I'm not bashing Oblivion. Looking at you, the usuals. :stare:

Snip

A rainforest? Says who?

Arena? No, Cyrodiil was still foresty.
Oblivion? Foresty.

Cyrodiil was in two games. Both showed it in a similar way- Foresty.

This raises a question; Which lore is reliable?

Is it the first and original that was established? (Arena)

Is it the most resent one? (Oblivion)

Is it the one based on a book from our favourite game? (Morrowind)

I have not played Daggerfall, and cannot judge it.

Tamriel. I never really found Akavir all that interesting and i would like to see Black Marsh, Elsweyr, Valenwood, Skyrim, High Rock, Hammerfell and Summerset Isle. I also really like the 10 current playable races. Perhaps we could visit Akavir when we have visited all the other provinces but not a moment before.

So one little detail ,which was mentioned in one book, you take as butchering of lore? You are one foolish man I must say. Also if that is the way you are going to look upon the world of Tamriel then Morrowind was also humangously butchered probably even more than Ovlivion but noone seems to care about that.

I think the only solid way to do a portrayal of Akavir (a portion of it, at least) would be if Bethesda strayed from their usual open RPG formula. It'd have to be another spinoff akin to Redguard - otherwise the large absence of Tamrielic metaphysics and, well, non-snake-people could make the game feel very lonely.

EDIT: You'd play as the Nerevarine for good measure. That would get the Morrowind fans on it for sure. (S)he'd also utter one liners like Duke Nukem and wield rocket launcher staves. Nobody would complain!

Tamriel is the center of the world. That is where the story is centered. That is where we should be. Sure, I wont mind a new Akaviri Invasion or a few Akaviri travellers in Tamriel. But I dont want a game centered there.
We still got lots of places left.
Skyrim, Black Marsh, Elsweyr, Summerset Isles, Valenwood... Mainland Morrowind. That means 5 (perhaps 6 with Morrowind which has currently gone boom) games left in Tamriel.

I voted Akavir, but either worlds would be good, I don't mind it being in Tamriel if they set it in a province that is completely alien and as far away from the real world as possible, I found the Oblivion world to be far too human, far too like the real world, the only provinces that I believe would fit that alien description would be Black Marsh, Valenwood, Summerset Isles or (possibly) Skyrim.

But I don't mind Akavir, but I think it would be better to keep it either as Elder Scrolls VI or as an extension.

Also High Rock and Hammerfell because they were done a very long time ago and could easily be done again.

Akavir. It won't happen though, they'd basically have to have four races (Kamal, Tsaesci, Tang Mo and Ka Po' Tun) predominately in the fore ground, and more than likely you'd be the only one of the default races on Akavir seeing as though the humans have been wiped out and no other racial faction has made it to the Isles and managed to stay there without being wiped out by the local inhabitants. I'm hoping for a revisit to Hammerfel, then maybe setting an expansion on Akavir ( maybe you following the footsteps or even in the presence of Nerevarine). So, in my opinion, unless they plan on a major race selection change then I'm betting it'll be set in one of the main provinces of Tameriel.

I REALLY want to see Akavir, damnit.

However, seeing a massive EVERYTHING game in Tamriel would be awesome.

I think I'm in the majority here. I want to see more Tamriel before we see Akavir.

As for Oblivion Butchering Lore. Retconning is not butchering lore. It's retcon. You can like it or hate it, but Oblivion is the new lore.

I'd much prefer it if the next games take place in Tamriel massively expanding our knowledge of the provinces/former provinces, while giving us little tiny bits of new information of Akivir and the other continents.

I wouldn't like to go to Akavir right away, but sometime in the future, at least.

Maybe a game where you play as Nerevarine. Since he/she is immortal.

But not right away. Maybe after a few more Elder Scrolls come out.

Just to see what is going on there, as it is really the only place near Tamriel that could make a good game.

I hope there will be a invasion from Akavir at Skyrim, that would be a good new story line.

Does every game from Oblivion onward really have to feature some terrible, alien army attacking the land? Can we just have internal politics and conflicts with other provinces and call it a day?
