Tamriel as campaign world for a PnP (tabletop) rpg

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 7:06 pm

Me and some friends wanted to play a TES PnP rpg, but there doesn't seem to be any, so we decided to use the rules of anther, swedish (we're swedish) rpg and adapt them to the TES world. I'm the gm and have the main responsibility, so I coud really use some help to make the rules lore friendly. In the rpg you roll some dice to see how much money to spend one's character has, the higher the character's social status is, the more dice. About how much gold do you think people of different social status in Tamriel would have?

Yeah, the monetary system of Tamriel really makes no sense from the information we've been given. There are many conflicting accounts about the value of a septim, even within one game.

If a house costs 5000 septims, it's expensive. 2000 is a cheap house, but that's still a whole house.

A noble might be carrying with him about 600 gold with, but own more. A farmer would definitely not be carrying more than 150 septims, and that's nly if he just sold a huge amount of products at the market.

Ok, but merchants and craftsmen ussually have about 200-800 g if they don't have ashop and 1000-4000 if they have one. Maybe an adventurer is at the same social rank as a merchant if she's lucky... Now i'm thinking luodly :P, but what do you think?

I'd say a merchant has goods instead of gold. Meaning, a merchant could be given around 400 gold.

GorbadPS3, do you count in the money that is "stuck" in the characters household?

No I didn't think of the amount in the characters houses. If characters could use those, it's just going to put some epic imbalance into the game, which is most likely something you don't want?

By stuck I mean money that can't be spended without taking a very big risk.

Well, with lines like "I got charged 5 gold for littering! Littering! That's more money than I make in a year!", it would definitely seem so. So.....inflation?

And it appears Septims have been minted in and out of Septim rule. Did the coin begat the God?

Septims actually depict the Face of Shezzar, as shown in ancient Shor cults and the Alessian Order. When Tiber mantled him, he had plastic surgery so he could resemble him in looks as well as deeds.

I thought I saw someone a while back creating a desktop Elder Scrolls game here on the forums. Can't remember who though.

I once tried making the races and stuff according to the Dragon Age PnP game rules. Works pretty well, actually, since it's already a video game adapted to a tabletop setting. I might actually go back to it, now that the 3rd set for that game is floating around, and Skyrim's out- I could make a Thalmor Origin for Altmer. Hmm...

Maybe I should finish it and post it here? GMing a game with some lore monkeys would be pretty interesting, I'd bet.

Let me show you the power of Talos Stormcrown, born in the north, where my breath is long winter. I breathe now in currency, and reshape this economy which is mine. I do this for you, Red Merchants, for I love you.

:(

I was looking over http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1372002-tes-online-what-will-the-money-be-called/ and I believe that I just solved the age-old mystery of why ancient Nordic tombs and Ayleid cities have caches of Septims interred in their unplumbed depths.

During Tiber Septim's moment of CHIM, wherein he reshaped the land and made Cyrodiil fertile, he must have changed the faces of all coinage in Tamriel to reflect his new dynasty. In that moment, coins of all shapes, sizes and values became simply Septims, worth a single unit under the rule of the new Empire.

I figured it out first.

CHIM!-REHT!-KHAN!

Creating a tabletop RPG of Tamriel couldn't be ridiculously hard, as it started as a D&D homebrew.

That would be nice! The PnP rules i'm modifying is: http://www.gurgelhardy.com/rollspel/zhoria.pdf but it's in swedish so I don't think you'll understand it :P I haven't got much experience in PnP but I think this system is really good.

I remember a long while back, someone made some rules for tabletop Elder Scrolls based off the FUDGE system. I don't know well it plays/would have played, though, having never had a chance to do so, and, if it's even still around, I wouldn't know where to find it these days, unfortunately.
