Tamriel physics?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:35 pm

Is there any reference to gravity's aceleration and temperature? And is there any reference to any star (like Sun, not "stars" from birthsign) or any other planet? I've always been curious about this...

Real-world physics is useless here.

Whatever the Earthbones say. Maybe they implement an artifice similar to real life physics, maybe they just decided "Things Fall Down."

And now you just gave the reason why there is no levitation in Cyrodiil. It violated the divine rule of "Things Fall Down" and therefore had to be removed.

On a different tangent, I've heard the reknowned imperial scholar named Isaacus Newtonus, who studied the laws of the earthbones, exclaim the following sentence while investigating "Things Fall Down":
"The Tarhiel doesn't fall far from his scroll."

And government always take the credit for the act.

I bet the Telvanni LOVED that one! "Do you have any idea how hard it is to give Therana her food 3 times a day while climbing up a rickety old ladder up her fly wells, WHICH WERE MEANT TO BE *FLOWN* IN!?" LOL. i can see it now...

Aryon probably has a throw down rope ladder now.

Following Oblivion's tack, if levitation was really banned by the empire, the skies of Cyrodiil should be FILLED with floating forts, in which there are legions of wizards holed up, floating around and talking about mudcrabs. They are all called 'Levitationists' and carry varying numbers of potions and lockpicks.

I think it would be very difficult to enforce such a law on the Telvanni.

[Imperial Legionarre swims out to a secluded island and shouts up the verticle shaft to Divyath Fyr's chamber]

Legionarre: HEY, UP THERE! I HAVE COME TO DECLARE THAT THE EMPEROR HAS BANNED THE PRACTICE OF LEVITATION!

[Fyr slowly floats down, in his full Daedric armor, with bonemold-clad female warrior-clones of himself surrounding him, and glowing fingers surging with energy.]

Fyr: Excuse me?

Legionarre: Uh....never mind.

There are physics in tamriel and science. Its called Magick. People all misintrepritate magick! They think it happens for know reason and what not but magic has rules and it obeys them. Magic is just a different form of the laws of physics that our world employes. So there. That tamriels physics.

Magic has no limitations. That's its only rule.

It has no limitations yes but it does have rules. A sorcerer can't just call forth a flameing ball of fire big enough to destroy all of Nirn with only 1 magicka can he? Well I guess he could if his destruction skill was ten million but thats besides the point.

The Levitation Act was passed in 3E 421, the events of Morrowind started in 427. So we can assume that it either does not encompass the province of Morrowind or is not enforced.

If that's true it would explain quite neatly why imperials (talking about the legions here) don't levitate and also that it was illegal in Almalexia. Also makes sence that it is not enforced on Vvardenfell where the imperial prescence is a lot weaker. but then again just a bad way to explain a unnecesarry game mechanic.

Imperial City rumors on Dovyn Aren.

The FCC changed rules on media ownership in 1995.

...

There, that's my randomized info-share. About as much worth and relevance in there as in that rumor. This is lore? Feh.

Unnecesary game mechanic.
Levitation is Universal Man-Mer Right! Proof that the Cyrodiilic Empire is an oppresive front! Exclusive evidence! The Empire is controlled by the Mudcrabs Elders of Thras. What is the Empire REALLY hiding? Proof that Mananaughts found something in the Aetherius they just don't want you to know!

In game dialog, when people in the Imperial City talk about an Alteration Trainer

He still teaches, though he lost his passion for it after the Levitation Act was passed. Can't say I blame him.

He's getting older, but he can still teach a bit about Alteration. He's been teaching it since before the Levitation Act of 421.

I hope the next tes game takes place in morrowind again, or summerset isle. I doubt the imperials could control the telvanni or altmer with a law like that XD

Yes. I have a good solution that is very lore friendly; if you simply refuse to acknowledge Oblivion as canon, then you don't need to think about these things.
