Tamriel provinces currently being worked on for TES4

Post » Tue Oct 19, 2010 7:27 pm

Hi, I havent played Oblivion in a long time, and haven't visited this forum in quite a while, because I have been busy in Real Life.
I'm not a lore purist, but I (probably along with the majority of the Elderscrolls Community) would love to visit the different fascinating provinces in Tamriel, more or less as Bethesda would have envisiond them, in a lore-friendly way.

(I didn't want to be "that guy", asking noobish annoying questions, so I used search function, and browsed this subforum a bit before creating this thread.)

I got pretty excited when I saw some pretty promising mods that add to the continent of Tamriel, but I'm not sure I understand the relations between them, the compatibility perspectives, or the way they evolved. So I'm trying to make sense of all of this in my head, in order to understand better these magnificent modder teams' efforts towards adding content to the continent of Tamriel.

Below is what I found by searching this forum and other places. I don't intend on making an exhaustive list, it's just for my knowledge, but I humbly ask of you to enlighten me on the question marks, or correct me where I'm wrong.

Thanks.

Sorry but most of the mods that you say are the same size as cyrodiil are much smaller like elsweyr anequenia is half at most and elsweyr has been released but lliana is keeping it away from us for some reason.

Size =/= Scale. Scale means that its proportional to Cyrodiil. Hence, if a province is smaller than Cyrodiil on a map, it will be smaller than Cyrodiil in game.

Highrock: Own orldspace, 1:1 to Cyrodiil iirc.
SoVvM: Own worldspace
Elsweyr Deserts of Anequinna: not actually 1:1.
Valenwood: not actually making Valenwood, just an island archipelago. Own worldspace, scale unknown (since its on on a map).
The Elsweyr Cofederacy: Own worldspace, heightmap is being reworked, iirc.
The Black Marshes: own worldspace, 1:1 iirc
Silgrad: own worldspace, 1:4 cyrodiil iirc. Beta 2.0 as well as a teaser out. Leaders are Sandor and TheImperialDragon.
Worldspace Modding Project: on Y axis, 1:1 with Deserts of Annequina. On X axis, 1:1 on north/south of Cyrodiil, then stretches out.

Ok and I was wondering what size are you planing your hammerfell mod to be.

Elsweyr Deserts of Anequinna: not actually 1:1.

How is it not 1:1 when it's built right into what's provided in the game?

Also, @OP: Rimmen is not included with Anequina, it's a separate project that depends on it, but it's not part of it.

Well, I suppose it depends on what we're considering scale versus artistic interpretation of the maps. The peninsula is stretched out, iirc, so I was considering it a stretch along the y axis. I'm going off what I remember though, so I could be wrong.

actually rimmen no longer requires Elsweyr, its a standalone mod compatible with elsweyr :)

This is probably not quite in the scope of this, but what the heck happened to Anequina? I've been trying to collect all the province mods I can find that have alphas/betas out out of an attempt to enhance my Oblivion experience by adding something new, but Anequina is apparently hidden-by-author on TESNexus, the author shut down the official forums, and the wiki hasn't been updated for a looong time. What happened, whats going on, and why does the author not want us downloading what I've heard was a very well polished alpha? :(

There's still people who have the latest Anequina mod! I'm sure someone could re-upload it to TesNexus if they have the original author's permission! I'll see what I can do since I still have all of the 2010 Anequina mod and updates for it! I'll ask Iliana first, though!

Anequina is hidden precisely because Iliana doesn't want it up. From what I hear she has been receiving a lot of harassment about it, so it must have gotten to her. Authors make these decisions consciously, and you should respect them (especially since its still available elsewhere)

She doesn't want it on the top lists, so she waits until it goes down.

Why would she get harrassed over Annequina? There's nothing controversial to harass about.

Cause people are rude, unable to read, or follow instructions? There are people who get angry because they can't manage to correctly open a rar file, for pete's sake.

Again, I'm just going off second hand information, but its not at all surprising if true.

Talking about worldspaces...onra, the Tamriel Heightmaps page has been set to hidden in TesNexus (saw it this morning). I thought the final full version was being uploaded, but it's still hidden....:( hope there isn't anything wrong...

Just ignore or disable the comments and don't check your messagebox at Tesnexus. Works like a charm if you had enough of it and feel more like a tech-problem call center than a modder. And if you want a thread that can provide some useful feedback just make one here or at other sites that have proven to be much more effective than the comment system at Nexus. Heck, if someone can't even find out how to open a RAR or 7Zip file they shouldn't even be looking at mods.

This is a good compilation of the worldspace mods HolyGrahl - thanks for compiling this.

Just curious - why don't modders like to make everything in Cyrodiil worldspace? With my rudeimentary understanding, I would think that it would cause the game to bloat up and load more in memory, causing poor performance in slower computers. Is that the reason? Also, separate worldspaces are easier to manage than Cyrodiil worldspaces...

But how does one get into adjoining provinces like Hammerfell if one cannot cross a border and be there (do you need to go through a loading screen to enter hammerfell from Cyrodill, Lady Nerevar?). How about VWD for Hammerfell from Cyrodiil and vice versa?

Onra's Tamriel Heightmaps are in the Cyrodiil worldspace and I never noticed any performance drop ingame when I use them. Onra can probably explain more about this though.

Primarily because beyond the vanilla game borders the useable area drops off fast. Only Elsweyr and Valenwood exist in large enough quantity to use without some kind of extra mod. Until Onra's heightmaps, this wasn't practical because of the amount of work that needs to be done to make any of those areas useful.

Thanks, esp Nerevar, for the quick responses. I understand now, I hope I didn't stir up a bee's nest :P But I was just really curious.

Had some technical issues of my own with Hammerfell and SoVvM (objects but no ground in both cases) but smart enough to know that the metric load of mods I have enabled are probably the culprit, either that or SoVvM and Hammerfell somehow conflicting, so I'm not going to bug anyone about it until I've tried it on a clean install :)

About why providence modders didn't do the providence mods in the Tamriel Worldspace, just like Arthmoor said, there wasn't no heightmaps before the 2 major heightmaps (the one made by Onra's and the other (buggy) one made by some German mod team (forgot the name, though)! Beleive me, before I had the Elsweyr Anequina mod and Onra's heightmaps, I played thru the Silgrad Towers Morrowind mod! I then decided to ask the makers of that wonderful mod why players had to access a tunnel doorway to get to Morrowind and why it was in a separate worldspace and not in the Tamriel worldspace for the Morrowind providence. You know what one of them told me thru my PM box? The exact area where they originally planned to place the content at there was no solid land at all, just a 10,000 foot drop to a flat floor zone at the very bottom (the floor where your character would splatter and die on if you go off the edge of the heightmap).

And also, as far as heightmaps and providence mods taking place in the Tamriel worldspace possibly causing the game to bloat, I never had any game bloats when I had all of Onra's old heightmaps plus Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina loaded and in order and checkmarked at the same time! The only things that causes my game to bloat (actually a FPS hit), beleive it or not, are super high-res textures like the more high res parts of RAEVWD and Open Cities (for Cyrodiil)!

I beleive you forgot 2 more Providence mods!

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20734 and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22555! Be warned, though, that Skyrim Improved is not compatable with certain Unique Landscapes mods, Onra's heightmaps (at least as far as his last version goes) or the Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina Mod! And also, the Valenwood Improved mod is in German, and both mods are made by I beleive the same exact German team!

Project Name: Skyrim Improved
Modder: Skyrim Improved Team
Setting: Cyrodiil worldspace, but using a different heightmap (not Onra's)
Scale:
Status of project: the settings looks complete, but lacks quests and NPCs in most cities and towns
Notes: Not compatible with Iliana's Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina mod, Onra's heightmaps from previous version(possible incompatabilities with Onra's upcoming heightmaps could be a possibility, too), not compatable with certain Unique Landscapes mods (especially those in the northern parts of Cyrodiil), and incompatabilities with certain other mods that takes place in Northern Cyrodiil!

Project Name: Valenwood Improved
Modder: Eldarie
Setting: Cyrodiil Worldspace
Scale:
Status of Project: Beta
Notes: May or may not be incompatible with Iliana's Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina providence mod. (Compatability with Onra's heightmaps is unknown, though!)
