Tamriel Rebuilt - Antediluvian Secrets #6

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:29 am

Quick update: We have a new creature to add to the menagerie! It's called the Velk and lives in forests on the mainland, where it is a docile nectar-drinker. I took a couple of images, see what you think!

Beautiful work! I remember seeing concepts for this a good half year ago; I'm very excited to see it live and in-game.

Very nice. I think it definitely suits the Morrowind style.

Time for another video! This one is a flythrough of the Lan Orethan forest, one of the larger regions in the Sacred East Release, and home to several high-ranking Indoril Councillors.

Enjoy!! (preferably in beautiful 1080p HD)

OK, so I'm late in seeing that. But it's awesome! :shocking:

A strange thought just came to me while watching that video. The velks seem to have long, beautiful, silky hair on them. Would some enterprising native be raising a pair to harvest some of that hair - sort of like the wool from sheep or mohair on goats - to use to make clothing or scarves or tapestries? They look like they could be the start of a valuable new industry in Vvardenfell. Especially since they seem to be quite rare (hint, offspring for new breeding pairs could be quite valuable, too).

Long-legged Velks are mentioned in the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/interviews-skeleton-man, so presumably they are fairly common creatures on the mainland.

Among other ideas, one of the suggestions as to a commercial usage for the Velk was that after it had filled up its crop on nectar from local flowers, the Dunmer farmers would induce the beast to vomit back up the processed nectar, collecting a form of "honey" from its stomach that was highly prized by the locals.
The idea of the silky underbelly hair being used for some kind of expensive clothing is fairly good potential idea, too. We'll see when we come to writing dialogue about the creatures :)

This creature is so cute!

But it would be said that the animal has badly with the haunch, hitch/limps. (I talk about the creature's walk animation)

Some amazing work is being done on the Great House Redoran holdings in Velothis District as I type this. I wish I could share it yet!

Great, the Twitter page is for making us more excited without showing anything yet! :hehe:

...

It's working.

Just making a bit of a casting call here, since we know everyone wants Sacred East sooner, rather than later:

Tamriel Rebuilt needs questers! Not just people to design quests, but the people who actually create them in the CS and often create scripts to go alongside them. We are anxious to bring you the latest release, but are a bit short on this type of modder. The ability to work in a team, and forgo any dreams of grand "Wrath of the Lich King"-type quest ideas and implementations are necessary for such work, along with a sense for the type of lore-based dialogue that we write. If anyone here wants to help TR bring Sacred East to the public sooner, please visit our board's Showcase forum and post a thread showing a bit of what you know about questing and a line about this "help wanted" blurb. Don't forget to register at the forum before you try, if you haven't already!

http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=203

Sorry to seem like a human fundraiser, we're just excited about releasing Sacred East!

Looking nice guys.

I have a fair bit of experience with quest modding for Oblivion but I never really got around to figuring out Morrowind's system, so I don't think I'll be of any use right now. Also there are a fair amount of differences in scripting.

For Oblivion I almost don't have to think anymore when I'm making quests as long as I've got the design written down, it has become routine. :P

I would just like to add that the IRC channel is an excellent place for people new to the project to congregate, ask questions of the modders and get to know the situation. We can be found on irc.chatspike.net in the channel #tamriel, or even more easily via Mibbit from the TR Chat link at the top of our website. The majority of our most active modders on the channel are American, British, German and Dutch, so most activity happens from around 3pm onwards (GMT).

Ah yes I noticed there were quite a few Dutch people running around the forums... :P

I'll drop by the IRC some time.

If you can handle Oblivion quests, povu, then Morrowind shouldn't be too great a challenge - it's like taking a sideways leap, but you could get the hang of it. I'm not there much, but definitely head over to IRC. You're the kind of guy who I think would potentially be quite good working on quests, if you had time to learn. You already have a lot of knowledge of the project, after all! :P
