If Tamriel Were An MMO, or Online?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:23 pm

When I say this, I mean if it followed the look of Skyrim, and a LOT of the same game play elements. Except perhaps we will leave the dragons for only Skyrim.

Would you play a game online that looked like Skyrim, and had all the continents crafted just as well if not better than Skyrim? Would you ever leave your home again?
Let's just say it could be done, despite some aspects of the game that might not work with the MMO type game. Or we could even just say if they made this multiplayer with the ability to play with up to 64 other players in a zone on the xbox and ps3...

What would you think about this?

Dude, do we even need to explain why this is a bad idea?

Maybe. If it was a separate game and world from Skyrim. A separate story and time, as well. MAYBE during the Great War?

It's a long shot, and the forum-goers will shoot you full of arrows for suggesting it.

Absolutely not. IMO having to pay monthly fees to play a game is just wrong. I was seriously ticked off when I found out Knights of the Old Republic went MMO.

^ I don't get why the people on this forum are so anti-anything that isn't a "pure" RPG.

There are lots of great games out there for various genres. But here it seems like if it's not an RPG, it's just a "dumb console kiddie game for the mass audience"

:(

Well, a co-op option would be fun, but it'd have to be done just right.

An MMO option would be basically off-limits. It just...wouldn't work :brokencomputer:

This.

There hasn't been a good MMO since UO first came out.

What a perfect definition for MMOs. Thanks for that.

Then it could be a FTP where you could pay to win.

And Elder Scolls MMO would be pretty awesome in my opinion.

Oh, No I don't mean they would charge you monthly to play this. I would suggest a B2P model, with 'maybe' some micro options that do not give you any benefit over another in game.

MMO=Massively Multiplayer Online

Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is a VERY separate game from KotOR, has been planned as an MMO for years.

So has GW2. The difference is that GW2 doesn't have a monthly fee, but it's STILL an MMO. MMOs don't NEED a monthly fee, it's just something that many of them do to pay for so many dedicated servers.

As for a Tamriel Online game, it'd have to be done correctly. At a time period separate from most, if not all, major Elder Scroll prophecies. Preferably where a major hero won't arise in the near future. There'd need to be a way to make every character feel somewhat important, but not the High Thane of Solitude, or else accomplishments will be useless. Balance will need to be achieved SOMEHOW, which seems fairly difficult in a game like TES.

So, all in all, although it may be incredible if done correctly, it would take a massive budget and a massive amount of time to be done correctly, or even passably, so I doubt it will be made anytime soon.

MMO's are not that tho. At least not when they are done well.

No there hasn't really been one done well lately, but the genre itself can be very deep.

But it's not a "true" RPG filled with nothing but numbers and virtual dice rolls, so it must svck.

Oh, well if they didn't charge monthly then sure, I would be for it.

I want to play the Old Republic that is coming on the 20th so bad, but am not willing to be continuously milked for my money

At $15 a month, I'd say it probably pays for dedicated servers, as well as continuous patches and updates. It depends on the amount of content and quality of the game, however.

So far, it looks like TOR could get away with the monthly fee, for all of it's supposed size. I mean, they've said there are multiple, huge worlds. It might have something going for it, but it's still up in the air.

On the other hand, a game like GW2, in which they have no monthly fees, is an obvious steal. Dedicated servers, online play, a massive world, the content REQUIRED by an MMO, for the same price as CoD. What GW2 will lose in sub fees, it makes up for in sheer amount of units sold, as well as the rate at which Arena.net pumps out new expansions.

So, it really depends on the developers plans, and the way it will be worked out if a TES MMO goes into production. If they're going to rely on content and expansions to sell it, it may be worth the price tag. But, as I said, it would cost too much time and money to be a smart investment.
