Tanking in ESO

Post » Fri Feb 21, 2014 1:19 pm

I've been looking around and i'm not sure what's going to be the best, i'm thinking to go either dragon knight or Templar.

But the main questions i had were, which one is going to be the better hybrid between tanking and dps and i like doing both, and is tanking using a sword/shield or twohander? Or can you mix it up.

I'am hoping there is another beta that comes out before the game launches so i can play around and experience what is going to work out the best so if anyone who has played tank as either dragon knight or templar can give me some ideas that would be awesome

For a tanking/DPS hybrid I'd probably lean more toward the Dragonknight using a two-hander as primary with sword and shield backup, based on theory mainly. I'm having the same sort of difficulty in that I was pretty well stuck on a DK (Support/DPS role), but now I'm leaning back towards a Templar because I'm not sure the DK Damage Shield plus Restoration Staff heals will be sufficient when compared with what a Templar can put out for the support side of the role. Really need at least another Beta weekend to get back in and look at skill values (not sure I can trust the online calculators when some of the values aren't correct).

Yea, i know i've been leaning alot more towards the templar just due to the fact that you can heal alot better then other classes which i feel could be a huge help in dungeons if your tanking and you can heal yourself if needed if you healer is in trouble. I'm just not sure how the tanking will function as a templar if you need to run sword/shield or two hander again

You could probably get away with any weapon to tank as a Templar. Sun Shield in the Aedric Spear is an all damage shield that you can constantly apply as long as you can keep your magicka up with the regen nerf., although sword and board would be natural.

As for the OP, roll the style and favor of class you want. Find the one which has the skills that you may want to use in the future. They both an interesting skillset to chose from.

Phazius from Entropy Rising, the Tamriel Foundry guild is a level 50 tank and has done some twitch streaming. I am sure you can find out a ton if you find his stuff. I know there are other videos out as well but it seems the TF guys are really into serious theorycrafting, so if it has to do with builds I would always check TF.

Are both classes decent as dps to? Just when i get tired of tanking being able to run around as dps would be a huge benefit for me to.

from what little i played of templar, if i put some points in the magic damage line (forgot name) i was blowing through mobs, so yes i had dps when i wasn't purely tanking. but it was so early game and with crappy gear that i can't tell how effective it will be in full game.

i'm actually going to go templar for heals and build him like a paladin. tough pvp healer, basically. but we'll see how the full version of the game plays out.

i didn't really tank with dk.

EDIT: forgot to add that i'll definitely be going werewolf so that should take care of dps issues for me..
