[Relz] TAO, The Arktwend Overhaul

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 1:04 pm

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28293 is released! This version is compatible with "http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29239".

What is TAO?

TAO is "The Arktwend Overhaul", an overhaul for the Arktwend TC for Morrowind. TAO is in its early stages and is under active development. So it will be changing. It should currently be considered "Beta" quality.

What is Arktwend?
Arktwend is a TC (Total Conversion) for the Morrowind Engine from SureAI.de. It has a complete new landmass with a main quest and a number of factions. An English translation was later done by Golden Thief. TAO builds on top of those previous efforts to bring you a new Arktwend experience.

How do I play Arktwend/TAO?
Briefly, you will need to get the Arktwend German version installer from the http://www.sureai.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=64, and the http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29239 plus the http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28293 (the Splash pack is optional). If you have survived this ordeal, you might be almost ready to play!

TAO Goals Overview:
  • Overhaul the graphics, so that Arktwend looks more spiffy and modern. I've included a number of hand picked replacement textures from various modder's resources.
  • Also include some nice Morrowind mods that are often on lists of popular mods to use. The full list of included mods is in the TAO readme, and copies of the original Readmes are in the TAOExtras directory of the installation.
  • Overhaul some of the storylines and add new ones to make Arktwend feel more integrated. For example, the dwarven Ice Hall is now tied into Orgrad.
  • Improve and add new scripted sequences. I've added a new scripted sequence for Rakhissh. Hopefully you'll find his introduction a little more dramatic and interesting now.

A few of the changes (Merchant changes, waysigns, etc) in previous versions were merged into Arktwend English 3.1. But future development will happen in TAO.

Not yet. I'll probably get back to it at some point, but I've been occupied with other things.

I just started a new game with Arktwend installed over vanilla Morrowind but didn't like seeing some of the vanilla faces. Going to try this out.

edit- Just tried this and now I see it doesn't change the looks of the faces. Still the game looks better to me now from what I played. I installed Vvardenfell Visages to improve the look of the faces, but now they don't have the look they're intended to have.

I use Visages of Vvardenfell myself, but you can use any NPC face replacer you like.

I'll look into it, but it may take me some time to get you an answer, I just moved and haven't gotten things set up yet.

Sorry for the late reply, but I finally got a chance to look into this.

If you install the German Arktwend installer: Arktwend_DvR_Install_v2.0.0.de.exe, you should see "decaybone3.bmp" in your "Data Files/Textures" directory. If you look in Textures now, do you see that file there?

No I don't see it, and I did install the game following the steps. I also found I was missing some textures for the Jeremy armor, but I fixed that by installing that.

That's very strange. I suggest a re-install, and for good measure somewhere other than "Program Files".

If you just want to fix that one error, you could use the German installer to install to a temp directory, and copy that one texture file to your current installation. I did that to confirm that the texture was in the installer.

I got it now after using the German installer two more times. The first time I reinstalled it I set it to "C:\Bethesda Softworks\Arktwend" but that still didn't work, so I did it again without the "Bethesda Softworks" and now it has the missing file.
