Exactly, Crimson. What makes TES and Fallout different is that you're not forced by the game to do something unspeakable. You have to decide to join the Dark Brotherhood or help a bunch of slavers round up some wanted people for their den. The game doesn't grab you by the shoulder and say, "ENSLAVE THAT PERSON! GOOD, YOU LIKED THAT? THEN YOU svck BECAUSE SLAVERY IS IMMORAL, SICK AND TWISTED!! GOD, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID THAT EVEN THOUGH I FORCED YOU TO DO EXACTLY THAT!!!"
TES and Fallout says, "OK, here's the world. Do whatever you like and, oh my God, WHY are you joining the Dark Brotherhood/helping those slavers!? Ugh, OK, fine. Whatever, but that will earn you infamy/subtract from your karma!"
@ funnybunny- I've...got a confession to make. I too have that weird sort of double-standard about violence in video games. I can beat the utter crap out of male NPCs all I want, but I cringe when I see female NPCs get slapped or shoved around and I NEVER hurt a female NPC, even when I'm playing an evil character. It's...yeah, it's weird.
