Tatoo's being permanent/Sharing the body of Resitance and Se

I like the fact that tattoos and scars are permanent, the switching between security and resistance thing doesn't bother me either. I have what 10 characters to build? I think I can manage having a couple of them purly for one team or the other no problem :)

well I have the full body tat ( know its name of some spainsh country) and the joker scar smile. The tats didnt bother me since the forearm isnt cover as much so a go jacket cover that up. its the scars on my face. He just doesnt look right, unless crazy poeple can defend the city then no problem.

Having scars does not make one crazy. I've seen a joker scar in real life. It ain't pretty but the girl was nice.

Just would like to get some peoples opinions on an issue that has actually really been getting under my skin above all things in Brink.

The first is tatoos and scars being permanent. I understand the realism arguement, I really do, but from a gameplay perspective, its just silly. Whats the point in selling a game on its customizable options, but restriciting players by cutting off a serious ammount of the customization after choosing an option is really counter productive. I actually wont use tatoos or scars anymore, I like to change up my character once I unlock new things or feel a different way. Its impossible with permanent stuff like that.

The permanent body stuff also contributes to my next big gripe, once you create your character, you use that character for both the Resisitance and Security sides. I made a nice clean cut security soldier, was enjoying him for quite a bit. I realized you actually could make a guy for both sides and I started outfitting him as if he was resistance. I threw on my DOOM tatoos and a nice face tatoo aswell ended up looking very badass. Then I realized, the tatoos went back to my clean cut Security guy aswell. It essentially ruined him and I was forced to make a new guy. It seems like such a silly system, tearing out the jugular of that gameplay for realism is stupid, its even more stupid considering that realism is taken away aswell when the game treats both your Security and Resistance guy like the same person.

I do enjoy the game, I plan on playing alot more, but I still do have alot more gripes with it. No face creation, a small number of voices, balance issues, no changing of body type ingame, lag, ect. ect. Theres quite a few problems with the game but I wont list them all here with the idea of keeping this post on a specific topic. Hopefully the devs will really look into their product and change some things seriously very soon.

What do you mean? I have unique characters for Resistance and Security. And the tattoos are not permanent. You unlock tattoos. You press Y to go between Security and Resistance to customize the same character for each. Am I missing something here?

I agree with the OP. I think it makes more sense that having a large number of character slots available is more for having characters specialized in particular classes rather than in particular factions. Therefore, any single character should be fully re-customizable at any time outside of a game.

Er, he means you can't take out the tattoos regardless of what side you are on. Your character for Resistance is the same exact guy as your dude in Security, just with different clothing (or body types or washable face paint or haircuts).

For example, let's say I had an awesome tattoo that looks military-ish and perfect for Security. However, once I switch to Resistance, the dude still has that military-ish tattoo.....

Not everyone wants to use those slots to make exclusive characters for each faction, lol. Especially if it's just for one thing like tattoos (your dude looks exactly the same but without the tattoos).

Wait, I thought you couldn't take off scars and tattoos on your face, too unless you make a completely new character? Or am I not remembering correctly...?

If I remember corretly, my dude has a permanent knife-cut scar across one eye. I think I remember the game is like, "Are you sure you want to do this?! Scars/tattoos
cannot be taken off ever again once you press this button!!!!" or something like that.

EDIT: Googled "brink scars permanent" and it seems like all scars and tattoos are permanent and cannot be taken off once you leave the customization
screen. Yes, my memory is not dead yet, lol!

Per character only your skin color and face should be the same. They should let you customize everything else so when you're in Resistance your guy can look more resistance and vice versa. You might want to put a big fat scar on your resistance guy but when you're on Security have him be clean and baby faced.

At first I didn't understand the complaint but now I do. Splash Damage didn't really do a good job of explaining that your character has a security AND resistance alter ego. I at first thought you had to make a completely new character to have a different faction.

You have ten spots to play with, I don't see the big deal. Have 5 security guys and 5 resistance guys. Its not that hard.

Or you could have 4 guys for each class and let them be sensibly customizable for each side. In freeplay you dont always play the side your character is on anyway, Constantly switching characters and classes, releveling up at least 8 different guys, being stuck with that guys look forever if you give him tats that match a perticular clothing set, its rediculous to think about doing when the simple fix would be to make scars and tatoos not permanent for your character.

did i not see an interview with the devs saying we could have up to 16 custom characters in our personal stable? :toughninja:

That was AGES ago.

At that point you also couldn't swap sides fluidly with the same character, and you could share XP between characters when you wanted to level someone else up instead of the guy you were playing as.

They had 16 characters but they were faction-specific - now there's only 10, but with the ability to customise each for both sides.

Ummm..Have you ever really tried to get rid of a scar or a tat on a whim? Not too easy. Changing clothes however is a regular every day occurrence...

They seem to come on and off really fast as I scroll through my Tattoos and Scars lists.

Ya i leveled up my third character to ten then put on a tattoo for my resistance side and was furious to see that it also went on my security character so i deleted him i don't get why they made them permanent (yes there is realism but that like having to wait for your hair to grow to get a longer haircut).

After, somehow, my current character magically copied a second character with scars and tats that can't get rid of, a patch not make them permanent is justified. T_T
