Meh.

Its been 200 years since ANYBODY knew how to make a tattoo.

First you need ink.... then a machine.. meh... to hard to do.

I dont think even RAIDERS have tatts.

And this is DIVERGENCE. In the 40s 50s, people were more moraly uptight.....

We do have the resources. All you need is ink and a needle, that's how they do it in prison. I think at least raiders should have them.

polynesians have used tattoos for ceremonies and all they used were needles and picks and a form of ink of some sort. Tribals would definately have tattoes in my book and besides were talking about Sin City here.

The only problem is, in reality, in the middle of the wasteland, you are quite likely to get an infection from a tattoo.

Interesting story: My buddy Adan got drunk and decided to let his cousin give him a tattoo. They used a real professional machine and did it with henna ink. Needless to say, it took several months and some intense scrubbing to get it out. If something this idiotic can happen in a suburb, it sure as hell can happen in Vegas. Other interesting story: German exchange student named Malte drinking beer in a hot tub and making s'mores (made a fire outside the tub) with some buddies of ours. They get smashed and decide to brand each other. They heat up the coat hanger they were using to cook the marshmallows and brand each other with Xs. Malte got off lucky since one of them actually got an infection from the bits of marshmallow burned into his arm. God bless Pacifica, CA. Sorry if you didn't find these stories amusing. The main point is that all kinds of crazy things happen in regular life, so why not just let us get tattoos in the game. It could be a character creation thing like with DA:O

Need to recode the graphics engine a good bit. At the moment (in FO3), there are just two skins for each six - female & female raider (dirty), and male & male raider (again, dirty). Any color differences (either due to race or tweaking the skin tone when creating a character) are just color adjustments of the same texture. (Oblivion did the same thing - wood & high elf and the various human races are all using the same texture. Orcs and dark elves get their own textures, since green and grey aren't really easy to get by tinting a flesh-tone texture. And the lizards and cats get their own scale & fur textures.)

So, to do tattoos, you'd need to either come up with some way to define the player as his/her own "race" & let you pick what texture it gets (plus make a bunch of tattoo'd skin textures), or come up with a new system for overlaying an additional tattoo texture onto the skin texture.

I'd prefer to have the option to give your character unique scars and stuff. Maybe a half missing ear, or a stitch across your forehead, or three missing teeth.

Metzger from Fallout 2 outfitted all of his Slavers with tattoos on their faces. The tech is definitely there... if they can make em' in prison, they can make em' in Fallout. Seriously, you should see some of the [censored] they come up with.

The idea that just because it's a post apocalyptic world and none knows how to do anything anymore is kind of weak.

Civilizations all over the world were developing similar ideas and inventions at the same time or between thousands of years without each others influence. I don't see why something as basic and as human as tattoos wouldnt survive.

To the skeptics.. We can purify water, maintain plasma weaponry, and create montrosities like Frank Horrigan, but the possibility of a tattoos is enough to have people worried? Wow.

I understand the game limitations, andpersonally I don't care. Thought I should say something on that though.

I like the idea of having trait tattoos that increase your rep with some factions and decreases it with others... some kind of branding from Caesar's Legion that makes the NCR automatically hostile, but increases barter in the presence of the CL or something like that.

Plus, it's a plausible idea, as people could use it as a way to make a little extra money on the side. But, people get horrible infections if it goes wrong.

My friend's brother got one on his foot, done by Cheryl Cole's (British pop star) brother. He waited about six months, and there was pus, blood, swelling... it was vile. Almost had to have it amputated. He only went to the hospital when he went to get another...

Well TECHNICALLY, the tribals and Slavers in the older fallouts had tattoos. But in the new generation of Fallout games where things are more visual, it'd require to much work tweaking the engine so you could have a tattoo and the like.

Can anyone see Kiebler's or foxfire54's avatars?
They're just empty boxes for me.

And I'd really like tattoos and scars for NPC's.
Can be a great way to create memorable characters.
As for the PC, I don't really care, I always play in FPP so I never see her face.

Tattoos and brands. All you need for a brand is fire and metal and skin.
