Taunt spell?

Post » Sat Nov 03, 2012 2:26 am

Hello,
I m planning to create a "Taunt" ability for warriors.
They will cast it on touch to enemy and they will get its attention?
I wander if "Frenzy" effect will work on this.

What do you think?

Sounds like a great idea. The way I would script it is as a Frenzy Effect, and the second the target is Frenzied, a script causes them to attack the caster.

I think if cast from distance in the shadows, it would be great. If it's within touch range however, why not just whack 'em with a mace? That'll get their attention just as well. You might try experimenting with ranged command and frenzy spells. My character exerts a great deal of influence from the shadows on foes that way.

I kind of imagine a Taunt spell being ranged, actually. I picture it as being the equivalnet of yelling something like, "Think you can swing that axe, do you? Come over here, ya yellow-bellied mud-licker. Come one, take a swing! Just one! I dare ya!"

I think of a 'taunt' as an action that is meant to focus attention of someone else on oneself. If we accept that idea, Morrowind's Frenzy Creature or Frenzy Humanoid spell sounds perfect to me: those spells make the enemy attack the player character. But Oblivion's Frenzy makes them attack anything in sight, freind or foe. To me this sounds like the ooposite of getting someone's attention.

I've never done any modding with spells. Is it possible to recreate a Morrowind spell in Oblivion? I have no idea. If so, I would suggest finding a way to recreate Morrowind's Frenzy Humanoid and Frenzy Creature spells. If it isn't possible I guess Oblivion's version would just have to do. Or maybe a Demoralize spell? (the enemy loses confidence and puts away his axe after considering (and then rejecting) the idea of taking you up on your dare to 'come on, take a swing').

Well, that's my opinion anyway.

The point of taunt spells is to quickly get the attention of someone who is attacking a high-priority target that you want to take pressure off of, and you don't have the time to make them angry by swinging at them 10 or so times. It is primarily used in MMOs to pull mobs away from DPS/Healers as a tank. Why would you initiate combat with a taunt?

I m building a Raid Mod, where the player with NPCs will make raids or defend base from raids.
I want the Warriors and Knights in group to tank the enemies, and having the hits on them, using the Taunt ability.
I want the spell to work on Actors too.
