I agree that the taunting was out of synch with what was actually happening from time to time. This made it funny, though.

One problem was the common "I've fought mudcrabs fiercer than you!" taunt. If it was said in an area where there were obviously no mudcrabs (not even any water, actually) it was very silly.

Same thing with the mudcrab line in towns. It made no sense for people to talk about spotting mudcrabs by the water when there is no water anywhere near the city (such as Chorrol, for example).

I love all the taunts, though I wish they'd change for enemies like goblins, wolves, and daedra who won't be offended by pregnant cow-walking...

For Mudcrabs for example, when fighting a Guard: "THEN PAY WITH YOUR MUD!"

Guards - By order of the king/ruler/whatever stop!

I hope they're more direct and threatening like the ones in Morrowind. Taunts are nice now and then, but they should be infrequent or only used when you're losing or fleeing.

Another old one to dig up when you're in trouble with the law:
"HALT" (Daggerfall)
At least I liked that solution to the guards better then getting your neck forcibly twisted to view the guard attempting to arrest you. So annoying.

I don't want to see any of those one liners come back... Besides the crummy animation, the writing was the only other thing I had a problem with in Oblivion. A lot of it felt childish and unnatural to me. If you're about to charge into a fight to the death, you're not gonna say something lame like "I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than you!"...

I'm hoping the dialogue in Skyrim is more mature than it was in Oblivion...

I liked very much how in MW the dark elves told u stuff like "bothersome creature", "stop bothering me". This voice / tone was great!, made u scared of trying a conversatrion.

Wait, were they saying "bother some creature" or "bothersome creature"? As in, the first being "go bother another creature instead of me" or "you are an annoying creature who is bothering me"?

I like all the comments that get made based on your skill levels. I wasn't aware of them when I was playing through Morrowind the first time and I erupted with laughter when I walked past one of the guards in Mournhold and he said "If I worked out, I'd look like that too". It was a comment I was completely not expecting and thus humour followed.
