Team exp?

Post » Sat Nov 20, 2010 7:35 am

So I have seen in the command wheel (i think that is what it is called) that there a multiple objectives to choose from. Some 600 exp and some 20 exp. My question is if an engineer repairs a crane does (or some other important task) does the 600 exp go to each member of the team or does the engineer get all the exp to himself. I am concerned if the exp is not shared whether teamwork will be replaced by justified greed.

from what i can figure from the bomb walkthrough you do earn points for doing specific things like planting a HE charge on a baricade AND destroying it, and i assume also from disarming said HE charge.
Container city shows us that the playtester repaired the crane and earned experience points for himself gradualy, over time he got the points because the game designers know that you could be taken down while working. so yes you get all the points if you do all the work, however their are many ways to get points in sure. every class will have important objectives.

If you accomplish the main objective soley for the XP, you still help your team more than by simply going on a killing-spree.

After all, a win will give the whole team a XP bonus.

Don't qoute me on this, but I think if 2 engineers are fixing the crane evenly then they split the exp evenly. You know, you do 5% of the work, you get 5% of the exp.

It really depends on the objective.

For reviving you get a fixed amount of exp I thought.
For Resupplying it depends on how few health/bullets they have left or a fixed amount (Not sure, brains are rusty)
For planting a bomb you get xp, and additional xp if it detonates.
Some repairing objectives reward a fixed amount after completion, others give xp over time + a fixed amount after completion or just xp over time. Multiple engineers repairing the same thing will share xp and if they keep the same system as in W:ET, they will get slightly more than half the amount of 1 engineer repairing.

I don't think team EXP share is a good idea, except a minor bonus for winning perhaps. You already gain individual XP for helping the team, which is already a good encouragement or a step in the good direction.

Edit: Saw that our devil above me brought up the same point as me.

Don't forget that as long as you do *something* that helps the team, you'll earn xp. In the container city videos, we can see that by claiming a command center or repairing the crane he got an xp bonus, but if you look at his xp wheel, he would also have gained a continuous xp flow by simply escorting the bot, although which would have netted the most xp is pure speculation.

The good thing is you're encouraged to help, either by completing tasks/objectives, helping teammates or staying on the point, instead of just killstreaking from a distant corner.

Well, I would say killing people trying to kill the bot would help greatly. However, you'd have to move up every now and then.....

quote from a dev:

"For all objectives where multiple players can progress it, each additional player is half effective, so you don't really get any advantage if you have more than 4 of the class. It's of course so some semblance of class variety is maintained."

That would make no sense to allow everyone to gain EXP for what someone else did. So basically if thats the way it worked, someone could easily just hop into a game, set their controller down and leave, because someone else completed an objective and they earn EXP because of it. If anything this would be worse, and could potentially be a game ruiner. I think you should only get EXP if in some way you contributed to the objective (helped destroy/repair something, protected the person completing the objective, reviving him, etc)

Don't worry. The only thing you can really snake from others is kills, which don't give much XP anyway, and if two people go to work on an objective and accomplish it together it gets split among them. They've really done a good job in incentivizing teamwork over lone-wolfing it.

If you're saying that you want sharing exp, then I highly disagree with you. Rephrasing what Oddworld has said, there will be leeches if there is sharing exp.
