Team Fortress Mod Support?

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 8:22 am

just curious if there has been any discussion around building a Team Fortress mod for this class based game ... since 'some' of the developers come from old skool Quake 1 & 3 TF mods.

PC version.

and no Half-Life TF was not a 'real' TF mod.

No, he's on the right one.

This is more an objective based game than a class based, even though the classes are pretty important.

Damn, I feel old... no one knows about Team Fortress, either Quake 1 or 3 ?? The game mechanics for those games is what has lead the way to the similar game mechanics and feel for Brink.

Some of Brinks weapons have Hwguy (Heavy Weapons) written all over it :)

I guess those days are gone.

Don't you never ever try to compare quake engines with steam engines :P :P The movement is completely different. Strafing like in quake games would be cool up to a certain level..

The original Team fortress was a mod for one the quake games. I don't know the exact history, but I'm sure that they are connected.

"Team Fortress is a team- and class-based online multiplayer video game mod based on id Software's Quake.Team Fortress was designed and written by Robin Walker, John Cook and Ian Caughley in 1996. The development team was hired by Valve, and in August 1999 Team Fortress was ported to Valve's Half-Life engine in the form of Team Fortress Classic. An official sequel developed by Valve Corporation was hinted at for many years, and was finally released in October of 2007 as Team Fortress 2."

Great history lesson !!

still curious if this game 'might' support a TF mod or mods in general or capture the flag type play or maybe more classes added ..

I doubt "bunnyhopping" would make it to this game, not really needed with the SMART system.

and I will try to NOT use double negatives in a sentence ... "Don't you never" .. lol

wasnt the Quake 1 TF and Quake 3 Fortress mods more popular than Half Life's TF .. ? would like to think so. I always considered Quake games the pinnacle of mechanics and movement... nothing compares to Carmack's engines in that regard.

Well I'm pretty sure TF2 is vastly more popular than the original quake mods and the HL mod.

However, if you're just talking about the mods then most likely

ehh.. not really sure .. its been a good 4 or 5 months since I looked at the TF2 servers. Seemed a little too cheesy for me... I prefer the more hardcoe 'Quake' feel. Brinks feels like that.

I remember the 2nd major update to Q3 Fortress mod, which introduced new models, skins, etc and that release lost allot of players from feeling too "cartoony". Mainly that mod was so the devs could "showcase" their work to get real paying jobs... and then Splash Damage came about :)

I'm sure this question will be better answered after the game actually releases.

Well I can't speak for the rest of the world, but I personally like the cartoonish style. It's a nice break from all the uber realistic graphics that we're seeing in more and more games.

Borderlands had a really nice mix of realism and stylization to that end, I felt.

which problem is that? And trust me, I have my issues with Gearbox too. I refuse to buy DN:F on the grounds that they outsourced DLC4 of Borderlands to work on Duke. They basically crapped on their insanely loyal fans' heads.

yea and duke better be [censored] amazing and 100X better to make up for the [censored] they put the fans through, and the problem is ln ps3 only, theres a [censored] ingame freind list but it never updates, i have a freind on it that i deleted 2 years ago and the rest dont even have the game, they wont fix it and that means i cant join or invite freinds. i have to play with random people all the time.

As far as mods go, times have changed. Games are much more of a business then they were in the past. Sometimes, having mod support for a game, isn't as simple as developers choosing to release tools.

Well, it's up to Bethesda, they can make the SDK available, or they can say no, we want to be able to charge for additional content.
I'd prefer a SDK myself

I doubt "bunnyhopping" would make it to this game, not really needed with the SMART system.

Bunnyhopping is basicly an exploit (just like dolphin-diving); it's always better to be impossible.
Some people will probably manage to get some interesting movement-skills with the SMART-system, but I wouldn't go anywhere near to the point of saying "This is the new bunnyhopping". After all, you won't be able to make like 3 wallhops in a row because after the first you'll probably not have enough momentum left.

Well I can't speak for the rest of the world, but I personally like the cartoonish style. It's a nice break from all the uber realistic graphics that we're seeing in more and more games.

Wait, wait, wait. This is the uber (hyper) realistic graphic style in it's best!

It's not the new bunny hopping but I warrant it will be annoying to some.
