Team Play Appreciation Thread

Post » Wed Jun 16, 2010 1:39 pm

I took Jessalon's advice and started this thread for one of the most important parts of this game Team Play.

Hello everyone i started this to stop stop petty arguments on what body type or class is better and to start discussing on how they will work together.

Now come one come all, discuss the team work between light and heavy, medium and light, heavy and medium, and all of them together with all the classes.

When a heavy soldier is being sniped who goes behind the lines to take care of it the? A light operative racing across roof tops to help his team. When a medium engineer is under fire by 3+ enemies who is there to save him? a heavy soldier blowing down a wall wielding a mini-gun that's who. All the body types and class work together to save and support one another for great team play.

It's about time a decent thread appeared. Kudos and http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1102014-brink-info-compendium-v2/ "Blessed be his holy hooves"

At the moment I am more interested in hearing what others have to say then spout my ideas.

edit: plz no kill me, but I really don't see any point in this thread, I mean it's all theory crafting for what purpose?

I believe the point of this thread is to create strategies on how everyone can work together. Instead of against.

A light engineer goes to repair the crane, and gets downed. The spot is too far away by simply walking/sprinting, but there is a short cut by using SMART. Who will help him? A Medium Medic!

Exactly instead of saying who will beat who in a fight. It's how will one another help complete the objective at hand.

As a Heavy Soldier, I can sit on Lights to keep them warm till they hatch!

Okay but seriously, I think Soldier grenade spam is going to be great for breaking defenses, it's either move or get blown up right?

For those heavy appreciators, a wall of heavy soldiers with heavy weapons e.g. minigun on the ground in front and supporting each other with ammo, and heavy medics behind them to give them a health boost and make crucial revivals. Ratio, maybe 3:1

I can see walls of heavies moving in wreaking havoc on everyone while light operatives get into flanking positions and secure the objectives. Then the heavies make up ground then DEFENDING the objectives while the lights take care of the specifics. While the more mobile but still tough mediums buzz around the perimeter like some mean guard dogs or something.

I have thought up a hypothetical team.

At the start of the game:

Group 1: Lights (Operative, Medic, Engineer)
Group 2: Medium (Soldier, Medic or Engineer)
Group 3: Heavy (Medic, Engineer, Soldier/Operative)

I people who can play multiple classes and it would be good for the team. So this is just the starting line up subject to change with map/objective needs.

The lights will buff each other and immeditely head for the most important objective/ CP. Most likely a CP that gains some teamwide bonus. Take it set uo a defense them proceed to rejoin the team or go flank the enemy. With both medic and engineer buffs they deal more damage and can take more hits. The lights do what they do best flank and harass. With their speed they can haul to wherever they are most needed.

The mediums are fire support/area denial. They get find a good position and keep the enemy from using it. They can also support whichever requires in the first minute or two of combat.

The heavies are the wall and or hammer the enemy will break upon. After buffs they head to the first major objective, if they encounter more resistance than expected other teams move in for support.

Basically the mode of operation is lights take a CP of value. Mediums work on securing good positioning and heavy get to the objective while destroying whatever poor fool gets in their way.

This team would work best with mikes in order to more efficiently communicate.

Weapon set up:

Light operative: Light rifle and machine pistol
Light Medic: SMG and revolver
Light engineer: Light rifle and machine pistol

Medium Soldier: single shot GL or assault rifle and light rifle.
Medium Engineer. Shotgun and light rifle.

Heavy Medic: Auto shotgun and assault rifle
Heavy Soldier: Minigun and shotgun.
Heavy Engineer: GL and assault rifle.

I believe grenades have a cooldown before they can be used again.

This is true. I guess multiple characters could using teamwork in a sense spam grenades to point. But at least that forces them into relying on each other for support instead of playing the one man army.

Medium Characters still have the GL-06 to spam bunkers with, heavies have the AGL. I would have no problem switching my main for a few lives to take out some dug in enemies.

Soldiers have access to multiple grenades though, can't they have more than one at a time?

In any case, Heavies have (edit, Auto) Grenade Launchers as well, spam ahoy ;p

The fact that they can access different grenade-types doesn't mean that their grenade-belt is filled with grenades of different types per se; I think they can chose which kind of grenade they want to use like you can chose from Semtex and Frag in COD or Halo.

If the AGL works like in http://www.dystopia-game.com/ (medium class weapon there, btw), it wouldn't be powerful in the wrong hands.

To explain this in detail: In Dystopia the AGL holds six grenades per mag. However, grenades do not explode on impact but are timed and can be easily evaded that way. However, the user can detonate a grenade beforehand (left-click: shoot; right-click: detonate). But you can only detonate the last grenade fired. So you can only shoot one accurate grenade at a time.

The AGL will be very useful for tactics, but when you realize the player is giving up a minigun, HMG, or semi-auto shotgun; its probably wont be OP, that's a huge sacrifice.

You can hold down M2 and just keep spamming M1 to have them detonate on impact as well, only thing I was able to kill stuff with actually since it has a huge AOE.

Heavies with MGs and AGLs can provide suppressing fire on an objective while lights/operatives creep around and gun them down from behind.

Even if there are Light only access areas, it is still fair, since objectives will not be located in Light only access areas.

Exactly. Besides, after a while everyone will know where the Light only access areas are located. Even though they will still be advantage points, they won't have as much as an advantage when exposed.

Nice! A thread about my favourite thing about this game :D

Games that involve Team Play are more fun and you get a 'feel good' effect when you contribute and work hard for the win.
