Team play

Hi All

MAG was promoted as to be heavily team player orientated, but it is now morphing into the same mold as the many other FPS, i.e. run and gun with very little thought to the objectives and what has to be achieved.

Is Brink more of the same or do engineers and medics have more of a meaningful role in this game?

I'd like to see some objectives require more than just run and gun, some more complex than others with a squad of all types to get the job done.

as far as i get it, it seems like all missions (MP games) will have several objectives which have to be completed by different roles (engineer - building fixing stuff / soldier - blowing things up / operative - hacking terminals etc.). hence i guess the most balanced team will win cuz it won't loose time changing, classes gear.

fingers crossed it will turn out like that.

Brink is the game that is destroying lone wolf gamers, or at least turning them into to team players. Let me clarify this, the objective wheel is going to be full of objectives either anybody can do, or everybody can do, and it ranges from Soldiers opening up flank routes, medics escorting people, and such. However, there are also other things to help and gain experience besides doing the main objectives, like reviving people, hacking turrets or command posts, fire walling those turrets or command posts, interrogating downed enemies, and such. All for sweet, sweet experience points. The devs are making sure that you can help by using your class abilities to help, contribute to the objectives, or generally be of use. Especially with the use of auto pvssyr, so you know if you can help somebody by giving them ammo or revive them, or without auto pvssyr you could also use it to add extra life buffs or weapon buffs. Brink is designed for teams.

This all sounds good to me, I just hope that the run and gun brigade can't force complete all directives with out other skills required, I like game with a bit of depth.

I also hope that the Brink devs don't listen to the forum pvssyr too much as this is what is having a bad affect on MAG.

EDIT: have a look here http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1102014-brink-info-compendium-v2/
most importantly this paragraph:
From a hands-on preview at Eurogamer:
“All the levels we've seen and played so far follow this pattern: multiple objectives, each flowing into the next, each requiring a specialist (the Soldier plants bombs, the Engineer operates the crane, etc) and each benefiting from organisation, selfless actions and clever use of the
environment.
Traditional team games - especially first-person shooters - struggle to get people to do the last three of those things, and one of Brink's goals is to overcome this. On the QuakeCon evidence it stands a good chance…The more we play Brink, the more it comes together. Splash Damage jokes that it bribes people to help each other out - but this technique works. It sounds weird being able to do parkour stuff automatically by holding a button - but it works.
It's hard to imagine how much story can be conveyed by cut-scenes full of custom characters - but they work too, hinting at mysteries on the horizon at Founders' Tower, the spire that's visible in every skyline.”

from what i've seen. there's no point in run'n'gun. firstly because not enuff XP, and secondly the objectives are more important to win the game.

btw. does anybody knwo if points are being distributed to the winning team? haven't seen that yet. would make sense tho.

they also said MAG was going to be a good game, they obviously lied. Im sure there will be people who attempt to run and gun but when it comes to the end and everyone around them has leveled up while they are still a measly level 2 they will consider changing their ways. Brink's system kind of makes you 'selfishly help your team' if that makes sense, you help your team but not really to help your team, you do it for all the xp. (actually I and several other here like to help the team to help the team but im speaking in generalities here)

im watching star wars too :)

anyway yeah, i was in the MAG private beta, then the Qore beta, then the open one. all the while they said "the game will get better the game will get better"
the final game comes out and... yeah its still garbage. people just get fascinated with the 256, but really when everything around the 256 is crap, whats the point.
even if the toilet is made of gold, its still a toilet

okay this may sound [censored] but does every1 see the same objective wheel
so lets say every1 switches to engineer at the same time
that would be dumb

A lot of people are too egoistic to do that.

I think it will be problematic if you're dieing for an engineer without anyone who has the proper abilities (the purchased ones) to play as one.

Possibly but over at the MAG forum most people seem to think the knife is the best weapon to have, it out guns all the guns!
I've had enemies attack me from the front , after i've put half a clip in them they knife me and walk away !
Yes lag does have something to do with it but after half a clip cmon.

So I see most of the ideas from that forum as being selfish and from opinionated people who only want the game to give them an upper hand over everybody else.
It is a shooter not a knifer, so I'm hoping all the team play ideas that go into Brink remain and are reinforced.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind a shoot up, but diversity will give the game a longer life.

What happens when people see the highest reward is for clearing objective X?

Everybody wants XP right?

A whole squad to one objective!
