tears of the fiend help/question

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:25 am

hi, having a little issue with this mod. i did the first part of the mod "the legacy" and everything was fine. thinking the mod was over, i used the console commands to open the doors that are in the last room in the excavation site just to see what was behind them, and they were just like the flashback scenes from earlier in the quest. upon leaving those rooms and heading back out of the excavation site, my character is stuck with the screen being all blurry and seeing multiple copies of everything like i am still in a flashback sequence, or as if i had the dark legacy(name?) spell active even though i don't. i've tried resting and exiting the excavation sight with no luck... anybody have any ideas on how i might be able to fix this problem?? i'd really hate to have to start a whole new character just because i cant get rid of this annoying effect.

sorry for the lengthy post... and i'd really appreciate any help anyone might be able to give me.

Reload a save from before you opened the doors.

Did you reload a earlier save after you went in there? Ninja'd :ninja:

If fact you should have gone in there, never never ever open a door you might think wont lead anywhere in any of Simyaz's mods.

Spoiler
you are going back later

no i dont have any saves from before i went in there. im lazy and dont ever really make any saves besides my quick saves and auto saves. ( i know thats probably a horrible idea) thanks for the replies. Is there by chance a console command that i might be able to enter to turn that effect off though?

Seeing this up and not able to find an active thread for feedback (other than the 100s of comments on nexus).

I just thought I'd say that really with regard to the content of this mod - what I wished the readme would have said was something along the lines of:
This mod will hijack the personal history of your character, so if you are a roleplayer you might want to consider that your character's history is forfeit while playing this mod.

I would further say that getting a good outcome/path in this mod is one of the most tangled knots there is - the most common and least avoidable outcomes is to have your character be as evil as it gets.

Basically it is a mod for the evil character.

It does have many options but in the end really when it comes down to it getting a truly good ending as in like playing a paladin is going to great lengths to avoid getting dirt on you. I will say that I'm impressed with the numerous ways to go and how internally consistent it is and free of bugs.

I will finish this mod and move onto RTT right afterward, but likely I will disable this soon afterward and forget the 'history' of my character as a bad dream.

The best part was the story of the genie.

Well, this is kind of discouraging...:(

Well, i think it still leaves alot of room for roleplaying, but for hardcoe guys who goes into very little detail then mabye its too much. I find that it fits good enough for my kind of roleplaying, plus the mod itself is so awesome that i don't care.

Yeah if you want to be evil this is a great mod to give your character a back-story of the most vile origins.

If you want to be a 'good guy' then it is all the way about how you were initially born in absolute evil.

I have enjoyed playing it even though there were a lot of wild goose chases (such as travel half way across the map to initiate on dialogue then travel right back to where you started to finish the dialogue), inconsistent history (ancient city of Armindale where key players are human and still alive today), it does have a vibe to it that makes you want to go on to the next part. It is just that as it is - it relies heavily on telling you who and what your character is.

That part I didn't like and mostly because a forewarning that it would do that may have prepared my mind for that happening. I crafted my load order for the 'good guy' and thought since this had good options that it would fit and so far it is really the odd man out.

You weren't born in evil, you were born how ever you roleplay to some level, and then the thing occurred which covers "the legacy."

But of course thats just how i see it, my statement, but i would't say it gives you an evil back story, powerful not evil.

Major MAJOR Spoiler don't read unless you've played:

Spoiler
Your character is a stolen child whose own soul was supposedly cast out into the Abyss so that an evil Daedra could inhabit your body and you can carry on causing untold damage. Accepting that fate is easy as pie - rejecting it is a damn workout (and take notes at every step). Even if you do manage to reject that fate then you have to bend over backwards in your head to learn to forgive those involved and be be the bigger man - even though the average paladin character would have relished slaying those people.

If you reject the fiend then your character is an abomination (soulless). Really the underlying message is that even if you reject the truth it is just that - a mental rejection - you still are the daedra's soul but just choose to deny being that evil.

My character is thinking these people are just plain nuts and how he ever got involved with them is beyond him.

Again I've no problem with evil and my next playthrough is going that route - I just would have liked the disclaimer that your characters history would be hijacked and that the bias is mostly toward evil characters.

It would be a great prelude to servant of the dawn.

I really do not do the evil thing, but I do appreciate a well-written story. I still intend to play this mod, but now I am a bit worried...

Is the issue still there? To help you fix it I'd have to do some code research, so I don't want to start if it's no longer needed.
