Teaser - Veloth's Child

Post » Sun Jan 02, 2011 4:11 am

I have a WIP thread for this at Princess Stomper's site and am not quite ready to switch from that one to one here - I keep telling myself when I get 2/3rds through the mod and know it is looking to be completed then I'll start a thread here

However after nearly 16 months working on this and proably having passed the halfway mark I thought I'd at least do some teasers for Veloth's Child

Anyone who follows the screenshot thread has pobably seen some of my NPC face shots and some clothing ones - they've been samples of what I've been working on for this mod

So what does the mod contain? Over 86 new faces, numerous new clothes and leather armour, Factions, Quests, Romance, cutscenes and really good mazte

The mod is set in a small working village and has over 50 unique NPC's all with unique backstories and less generic dialogue

Dialogue and trying to tell a good story is the main focus of this mod and the NPC's use conversation tree's where the player can often pick from a selction of choices to respond to NPC's and thus open or close quests, build or ignore friendships and thus add some replayability (assuming anyone ever plays it apart form myself that is)

For those interested in pursuing romance with some of the NPC's there is an opportunity for that however there are plenty of options in dialogue to back out of a romantic option if not wanted

Dialogue avoids looping as much as possible - so that a PC cannot decide they didn't like their choice and try and repeat the conversation to get a better choice - this is more like real life where if you don't think before you speak the consequences are not always good

Oops - this post is starting to sound like a WIP when all I really wanted to do was show some trailers

This first one is the replacement to the opening movie to the game and introduces two of the key characters in a dream sequence for the player

This second one just shows off some of the NPC's in the mod - to try and give an idea of the scope of the mod - none of these are filler NPC's they all have a unique reason for being in the story and many who have individual stories of their own that slowly link into the main story - small edits of a romance scene are involved - they are well within forum rules for maturity - quality was a bit grainy due to the conversion process - but I'm sure you'll get the idea

I still have a long way to go on this but just felt an overwhelming need to show I'm still contributing to the moding scene.

Edit: I was unhappy with the conversion quality of The Cast of Veloth's Child so have uploaded newer version - it's a bit longer but I think the image quality is improved

Ah, I have already wondered where that mod with those faces would be.

By seeing at the faces you have made there, I always thought they would very well suit a total conversion mod that plays in an altered perception of Morrowind. One with a proper world scale (10*10 the size of the original game) but then only Sheogorath or another island of Morrowind. Such a mod could go even more into detail as regards local culture, geography, plantlife etc.

Anyways, looks very intriguing!

Agreed, quite intriguing :)

EDIT: Just interested, i know this isnt intended wo be a WIP. But who is working on this mod? I mean, are you tackling it on your own, or do you have some help working on it?

Amazing work sofar, I really enjoy those cutscenes, there should be definately made more use of this feature in future mods. Visual information does stay longer in mind than quest book entries and I think this can immensively increase the gaming experience!!! I haven't played the game myself besides from everyday testing for a long time, but if I should start a new char someday, this one will be on my list for sure!!! ;)

One of the reasons why Morro rocks is the mysticism of Vvardenfell.

Anything that adds to it is most welcome!

Hi SGMonkey - I am doing most of it on my own - except for mesh making where I have received some very kind replies to resource requests and scripting. I spend some time in the CS forum where I've received excellent advice and help. More directly Cyrano has very kindly helped me with scripting for a couple of quests. Melian has also given me invaluable scripting advice and a lite companion script for one of the NPC's. To be honest without their help I wouldn't of got this far. I have created nearly all the assets for the mod and now just have dialogue, scripts and a couple more buildings to do - oh and lots of testing :)

Amazing work sofar, I really enjoy those cutscenes, there should be definately made more use of this feature in future mods. Visual information does stay longer in mind than quest book entries and I think this can immensively increase the gaming experience!!!

That's a nice comment Daywalker especially as you are quite the innovator, I also believe cutscenes enhance the story a little more than a journal entry or a 2 parargraph conversation.

Eagerly awaiting the release already! :D

Heehee - I still need to test your script for Lairah but I'm sure you'll have access to an early version if you want

Oh I am most decidedly keeping an eye on this one. :P Quests + romance + new shiny CLOTHES = I am there. Oh yes.

At last - a romantic - I hope you won't be disapointed - and if you are then at least there's always shiny clothes :)

Love that opening shot, zooming in to the girl on the ship's prow...

Thanks Dragon32 - I enjoyed doing it - actually it was bit like a real photo shoot as I took loads of screenshots and was worried about changing light :)

To everyone who has commented - thankyou I felt very much encouraged to get on with it - hopefully in another 2-3 months I'll have past the point of no return and be able to start an official WIP - this has been a big project for myself - even though I tried to limit it's scope - and I didn't want to start a WIP if I wasn't sure I'd have the momentum to keep going :)

For those who are interested in seeing more I was a bit disappointed in the video quality of The Cast of Veloth's Child so I've posted an extended version which was converted at a much higer quality - sigh - one of the reasons I take so long in modding is I'm obsessed with quality.

Anyway if you want to view http://yfrog.us/2odunhavengolz - it's here (once again I note it contains snippets of romance scenes so if that's not your thing best not to bother watching - they are safe as per forum rules)

What are the races in the video? Apart from the obvious ones like the Dunmer and Redguards (Great heads btw)? Are they all vanilla?

Sorry papill6n as the OP says this is not a WIP thread - I just wanted to show off some cutscenes and a trailer I had done - which given the tools at hand I felt overly proud at the accomplishment.

Normally if i am posting any updates I'll do it at princess_stomper's site - though for the past month my thread has been quiet as I needed a break from seemingly endless copy and paste and rewriting of dialogue. I still have a few hurdles to overcome before i start a WIP here as I don't want a submarine thread - you know the type of thread that disappears for 3 months then surfaces for air with a new image or comment on how hard it is to make progress :) ( I already have one of those)

Wow, it's like you're cursed with making only beautiful stuff! Cut-scenes are absolutely amazing, definitively something new to Morrowind, and will add a huge amount of uniqueness to your mod.

Can't wait for release of this, I'll make sure to play it trough!
