Teddy bears - wtf?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 11:38 am

Ok. So, feel free to move to spoiler section if this counts.

What is with the weird teddy bears?

So far I've come across 3 odd little scenes.

First was in Mass Pike Tunnel. There's a weird little animal hospital thing going on, with a bear performing surgery.

Second was in the Chem Lab. There's two of them having six.

Third was in Super Duper Mart. There's one in a cage with hand-cuffs on.

Am I missing an obvious Easter Egg?

I think it is just bethesda having some fun with teddy bears. I do not think there is any kind of special reference being made.

Just kind of a Bethesda tradition with Fallout to have weird scenes with teddy bears. In Fallout 3 you could find teddy bears shooting up with med-x, etc. Just there for the chuckle. If you want, you can just assume it was so bored scavengers or raiders amusing themselves.

Yeah I think it's just the devs having fun while cluttering up areas. I found a pink flamingo drinking out a toilet in some kind of raider infested pub :P I got a chuckle out of it.

Edit: found two teddy bears smoking cigars while playing chess in the same building.

Raiders are still people. Lots of spare time in an apocalypse.

FO3 had the bear/gnome rivalry - there was a scene with a bear duck taped to a train track with a gnome on a deckchair watching and waiting for the train.

Those things are creepy. Last night I couldn't take it anymore and shot one. Luckily the game lets you destroy them.

I know those monkeys are a reference to something, but I have no idea what. Every time I spot one I shoot it, hopefully before the eyes light up.

It's a reference to the monkey toy from Toy Story 3. He worked for Lotso monitoring the security cameras for any toys who try to escape. If he finds one, he screeches loudly and bangs on the cymbals.

As for the teddy bears, I've got to check some of them out. :P

The monkeys are reference to an old Stephen King short story called the monkey.

I saw a teddy bear reading "The Boston Bugle". The little scamp even had glasses on.

As for the monkeys, I've only come across these twice and I'm of the opinion they're used as early warning systems for Super Mutants and Raiders. As soon as one goes off I hear a "WHO'S THERE" quickly followed by an enemy catching me with my fingers in their ammo box...... Ooops

They are also an actual old toy from the 1960s called the Musical Jolly Monkey, that everyone seems to universally agree was super creepy, even at the time.
