Telekinesis

In morrowind telekinesis was just activating things from a distance. In oblivion you could move objects around, how do you think it should be handled in SKYRIM? anything new

I like the idea behind the way Oblivion handled it. That said, I used telekinesis infinitely more in Morrowind than I did in Oblivion, for the simple reason that it seemed to be much more handy. I don't think this discrepancy had anything to do with the mechanics of the telekinesis, but was affected by various other in-game elements (for instance, in Morrowind so long as you were obscured from vision you could steal anything with telekinesis, whereas the improved AI of Oblivion made this less feasible).

I agree that would be fun.

Like Bioshock! Dude, that was awesome! :D

I also like how Legacy of Kain: Defiance had telekinesis (TK bursts): you can lift someone up, and drop them or hurl them into stuff (like spikes!). In Bioshock, you pull an object toward you, hold, then release to propel the object at high velocity. Wham!

I also like TESIII's telekinesis, where you can reach objects that are normally out-of-reach. That's pretty useful.

So, what should telekinesis do?
  • manipulate NPCs, creatures, and objects from a distance: lift, throw, impale, drop, push, pull
  • add items to inventory from a distance (TESIII style)
  • activate objects, such as levers, lights, buttons, traps from a distance
  • open up another character's inventory (or open a container) and remove items - from a distance (where'd my underwear go?!)
  • the longer an item is in a telekinetic "hold", the more damage it will do upon throwing it (like in Bioshock)
  • removing a weapon from an enemy's grasp

How should it be handled? Not at all. It should be mindled.

All the above are great ideas, but I wouldn't want to be flinging whole people around without at least a 75 in whatever skill governs it. Start small...opening doors, maybe pulling weapons from peoples hands. Then pushing/pulling stuff, levitating objects.

Really I just feel mysticism should be more useful than soul trap, I wanna throw my sword around like a jedi using telekinesis but whatever.

Making a goblin shish kebab by throwing a spear with your mind would be awesome!

And when AI uses telekinesis to bash us around, completely unable to do anything about it, especially if we're not a magic user? I think they should be careful with having too much stuff, especially highly powerful stuff, that only we can do and not AI.

That would be exciting.

Gives me a reason to fear mages again and to kill them quick if I'm a meleer.

It'd be cool if you could merge skills, like with telekinesis you could hold arrows with your mind so you can reach them quicker and hence you can shoot faster. but for just telekinesis i'd like to be able to lift stuff, throw stuff, use stuff, empty pots of boiling oil on peoples heads, pull levers, pick up a spear and impale someone with it, pick up a person and toss them like a doll, pick up a person and a couple of arrows and nail him to a tree, pull down trees, lift houses, stop an army in its tracks, pull down a castle wall... ok maybe those last three are a little much but it'd still be awesome :D

imagine things like stopping an arrow midflight just before it plunges into your chest, then turning it round and sending it back with interest

I want to be able to lift people of the ground and slam them against the wall a couple times. Or for interrogation, I can take a little metal ball, heat it up with a fireball or two, then use telekinesis to put it into someones body and guide it so its extremely painful :)

I just want to force grab them and keep their head under water while they drowned, but I like your idea too.

Also would love to be able to play around with floating torches (if we can have them dropped while their lit) and light areas from a distance or burn people with them.

Better Telekinesis would be great!

I'd like to ask though, should they take it from Mysticism and put it somewhere else? There's a few skills that are very much like telekinesis that aren't mysticism spells. Things like Open, Levitate, Slowfall, Water Walking, and it's starting to sound a lot like Alteration might be a better place for it.

If there was a specific animation for that, I'd completely love it.

My first playthrough on oblivion I remember I was really dissapointed that my tk couldnt pull the lever I saw behind that gate in the fort. I mean, I could see the friggin lever right there.

I would like tk to return, but it needs better integration. I need to open doors, take items, push buttons, throw people around at higher levels.

I want something nice for telekinesis too

Maybe flung/swung objects cause damage when you hit an enemy with it? Maybe knock them down too? The weight can probably play a factor. Would be cool if NPC mages could utilise it too?

Highly agree with that. Telekinesis should have been a valid option to make some locations being doable in reverse. If they can't allow reverse run for some reason, just put a door we actually can't see through.

Maybe it could be used for setting traps off from a distance, that's what I used it for in Morrowind. Never used it in Oblivion though, aside from grabbing some high up Welkynd stones easier (but I just use a fireball/arrow instead) there was just no need.

I wouldn't miss it terribly.

Yes I want to grab people to... kinda lika force push, but have more control over it, perhaps.
Bethesda need to make sure you can't "overdo" it though. I mean... so that you can't use a lower leveled telekinesis spell and spam it on an enemy all the time. Then it would be too powerful :(

Possibility for stealth-oriented characters: Program guards to investigate noises/objects moving or falling. With telekinesis, it should be possible to knock over books, ceramics etc at another end of the room/corridor, causing guards to go investigate so you can slip past while they're pre-occupied.

Don't know how well-known telekinesis is to the population of Tamriel, but it seems like it would be hard to distinguish from poltergeists. There is a potential here to make some funny small quests where you try to convince an NPC a house is haunted by acting as a poltergeist, using telekinesis. Not really a major suggestion, but it could be funny, a bit like the quest in SI :P
