Teleporting Radscorpions

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2016 12:55 am

The radscorpion is over a 100 meters away. I shoot it while sneaking, in full concealment, and before I can even lower the scope it's behind me and stabbing me in the back with a poisoned stinger.

Say what?

I mean don't get me wrong, I think burrowing radscorpions are... okay I think the idea is absurd from beginning to end, but I was willing to hold my tongue and give it a chance. I'd even be willing to let it go entirely if it took time for the scorpion to burrow into the ground and then burrow hundreds of meters under the soil to find the spot were the player was standing to jump up behind you. But that's not what happens. The [censored] things TELEPORT. They don't travel. They disappear from over there and instantly appear behind the player. It's nonsense. It defies any sense of plausibility and there is absolutely no way to defend yourself from it. So, I don't really expect anything to come of this, but I figured I'd exercise my right to gripe and let you all know how I feel about it. So, in my not so humble opinion, this is BS. Complete, total, unadvlterated, grade A BS.

Cheers

Yeah, they are over the top! First few times I encountered them, I thought it was a glitch of some sort. I soon learned not to snipe them through scopes, and anticipate their arrival behind me. After that, they are easy if you got the level for them that is :) In later levels as sniper build, you will oneshot them anyways (with all the perks and upgraded weapponry)

I have seen mole rats and rad scorp dies (if they are wounded) because when they warp they sometimes crash with solid rocks. I use shotgun and/or missile launchers. For some reasons, I haven't found any good legendary on these, but rather smaller critters have the habit to have the good items.

Thanks for the replies. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

Yeah, it is poorly implemented, utterly cheap and nonsensical. I've been playing with Arbitration on survival, which means enemies are doing %500 damage and stealth is a lot more difficult. Most of the time it's really intense. My first foray into corvega took hours to beat and was really good gameplay. But this? How on earth does anyone explain a radscorpion travelling a hundred meters through the earth instantaneously? I mean that's faster than they can run above ground, let alone burrow through it. It's absurd and sooo cheap. It's this artificial mechanic implemented to make the radscorpions more dangerous. Well, congrats. They're more dangerous. They also svck.

Hopefully someone will mod a fix for it. I'm fairly sure Beth won't do it.

Well, actuallly, they don't warp.... if you use weapons with targeting system, you can follow the red arrow come closer and closer while they are moving underground.

Me too. I thought AI is just failing through the terrain and then attacking me from under. It took me about 3 deaths to figure out what's going on.

It's ridiculous.

I like the tunneling aspect because it makes them more challenging, but it's a bit over the top. If I'm using a scope to snipe them at long range and all of a sudden they're popping up right beneath me, it's a bit questionable lol

Could have been implemented much better. Imagine if they burrowed at normal running speed and you could see dirt and rocks flying up - a'la Tremors. Not knowing whether it would pop up behind you or right in your face. Even better, they could have an animated attack like deathclaws. Maybe it's pinchers come up from the ground and grab you while it's stinger comes at your face...

I do like it.

Having different enemies with different combat mechanics is great for adding variety to the game.

It's way more fun and refreshing than the 'charge at him' approach that all the enemies had in NV and F3.

And with Fallout being a universe that is a bit over the top anyway, I can totally accept them being a bit unrealistic :D

The tunnelling is fun, but it's frustrating and leads to glitches. We must have all seen Dogmeat fly high in the air attacking molerats just as they emerge from the ground by now, but on a couple of occasions I've got myself stuck under the map timing a sword swing badly in VATS just as the molerat/scorpion is burrowing.

I hate how any enemy runs towards you when the game tells you you're in [Caution} mode. I'm sniping from distance with a silencer, why aren't you searching, why run straight at me!

That's just confirmation bias I think - I've seen enemies, even the same types, do all sorts of things in CAUTION, of which blundering towards you is definitely one. Other times I'm actively hoping for a raider to come around the corner so I can pick him off stealthily without alerting the whole pack and they just roam around randomly or disappear upstairs or the far end of the area turning CAUTION quickly into HIDDEN meaning I have to cause a bit of ruckus to get them moving around again.

The molerats burrow and don't teleport. I wonder why the Radscorpions do. I was sniping one from a really long distance away, and I got the shot off on it, and then suddenly the damn thing is right behind me.

Let's not be upset that radacorpions make use of the blitz perk. I do it too! Teleporting even between floors to sink my Kremvh's Tooth in to my enemies flesh! :D

Uhm... no. Sneaking. Sniping. Take the shot. Before I can lower the weapon the scorpion is erupting out of the ground behind me. That's instantaneous. During combat I can track them until they are under the ground, after that they are in null space. I don't care what the compass says.

That would have rocked. If they had done that I would not be in these forums complaining about them. It's the instantaneous travel of several hundred meters supposedly through solid earth to appear directly behind me that bothers me. It's ridiculous. Synths teleport and I don't have a problem with it because it fits. Radscorpions DO NOT TELEPORT. Supposedly they burrow. Well, if they burrow it should take at least as long for them to travel under the ground as it does above ground and ideally quite a bit longer.

D: radscorpions & blitz?

radscorpions are originally vault dwellers who mutated badly like super mutants and the plant creatures from V22

mind = blown D:

My understanding of this in a logical sense was they were able to pinpoint a rough area of where the bullet came from. If you stay hidden and move behind an object out of sight they will stand on the spot you shot from and then disengage looking for you.

This is true. I've been playing with the Arbitration mod, which makes stealth a great deal harder, and I can still stay concealed if I move to a new position after taking a shot. Just remember: there's no such thing as a silencer. A suppressor will conceal muzzle flash and diffuse the noise, making it hard to know exactly where it came from, but you still get a general idea. The problem with these scorps is they actually DO know exactly where they are and teleport to your location, which is, IMO, broken for at least 3 different reasons.

They are burrowing behind you. Why is it mole rats aren't an issue when they have the same ability?
