[RELz] Television Comes to Fallout

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:02 am

DESCRIPTION:
Television has come to fallout, video that plays on an actual TV Screen.
It uses a key framed UV method, but what Ive done here is on a mass scale, in an attempt
to standardize it. Hopefully the modding community will be able to expanded upon the video content,
since its highly modular.

Version 1.0 of the Video Creation Tutorial is in the files section, includes template files.
Make SURE your '.Net Framework' is up to date. Grab it Here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

THE SPECS:
-0 to 5 minutes of video playback using 4k image sizes, cycling through 6440 keyframes.
-8k is possible for 2x Res but adds 4x the Filesize. 8k is Not viable for longer play time.
-Completely Modular, supports user made add-ons.

DISCLAIMER:
Ive decided to see about letting select modders use this, however I still reserve the right say No,
or to ask to have it removed if proper credits are not given/forgotten about/mysteriously disappear after a while.

REQUIRES:
FOSE 1.2

Video Collection:
-B.O.S Scout Footage (part of the fallout 3 intro sequence)
-How the War Began (part of the fallout 3 intro sequence)
-Prepare for the Future Ad - Fat Man
-Prepare for the Future Ad - G.O.A.T
-Prepare for the Future Ad - PipBoy 3000
-Prepare for the Future Ad - Metro Protectron
-Prepare for the Future Ad - Pulowski
-Prepare for the Future Ad - The Story of Too Much
-Prepare for the Future Ad - V.A.T.S
-Prepare for the Future Ad - Washington D.C

Silent Film Collection:
-Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) [Trailer]
-Faust (1926) [Trailer]
-Nosferatu (1922) [Trailer]

HOW IT WORKS:
If your familiar with any of my prior portable mods, then you'll be right as rain.
Buy a TV (comes with a tape player)
-Drop the TV
-Activate the TV to set it up
-Activate the TV to turn on OR activate the tape player and drop in a tape, then activate the TV
-Activate the TV to turn it Off
-Grab+Activate the TV at any time to pick it up, including whatever tape you have loaded.

LOAD ORDER: Load the esm high, the esp low.

UPDATES:
Version 1.4
-Many Tweaks, Split the Core & Video Content into different files.
-Silent Video Collection, I like some of the old classics, most are set to stock music.

BUGS:
None that I know of. Lower end machines may not show the overlay alpha Correctly?

THANKS GO OUT TO:
-Bethesda for making such a highly inspirational, highly moddable product.
-The creators of Fose.
-The people who made the Civ4 Exporter Plugin.
-Every one who's shared information that helped me work out the nifskope quirks on all the various forums and
documentation sites, this stuff is invaluable.

Currently just the Ron Pearlman intro speech split into 2 parts.
Might do the B.O.S portion later as part of the tutorial.

Edit: file just finished uploading.

I'd love to see the Fallout 2 leaving the Vault video in this! ^_^ It'd be an awesome tape to find!

This looks amazing! You've got some really sweet gadget mods out there, and this one is the top layer, frosting, and cherry all in one. Wicked good!

I run Fallout 3 on "low" quality textures, due to my laptop having problems if I go higher, does this effect the quality of the video?

Nice. Reminds me of the proof of concept mod someone made for Doom 3, where you could play classic doom on a computer in Doom3.

Now you need to expand Galaxy News Radio to also broadcast 50's comedy series :D

It's actually very smooth! It plays well, the sound stays in sync, and I like how it'll loop the video until you change it. Now all it needs is more videos to watch and we'd be set.

@ razorwire:
Just thought you should know that in testing the mod, I keep getting misc items collecting in my inventory called "video static" when turning off the tv with no tape inserted.

I know this is probably an odd request, but can anyone please upload the file to a mirror for me? My school ISP blocks the Nexus, and I'll have no other chance to get it, since I have dialup at home. I'd really appreciate it!

Just letting you guys know Ive smashed the 1 minute time limit.
Its now up to 4:10 (something). Thanks to the old Civ4 exporter plugin i managed to easily
do what otherwise wouldnt have been so easily possible in nifskope or through dissecting
the nif code somehow. just tested it and it runs fine and dandy for me. This is however the
upper limit in my professional opinion.
Now the only thing that I worry about is the sub pixel stuttering, but that is
unfortunately nearly impossible to get rid of with something like this since
nifskope only supports 4 decimal places. I know the frustrations of sub pixel accuracy
from past employment. ANYWAY, It wont be available until the tutorial though, probably
early next week. Cheers guys! Im going to take the weekend off, hope you have a good one.

Edit: also fixed most of the start lag as well as the one frame jitter at the start of each vid.

Cheers guys! Im back with a fresh new version, a tutorial (still in early stages), and some old timer Silent Film clips.

Im a bit iffy about doing anything music related since music is one of those highly personal areas.
Can't please everyone, please one, you gotta please em all type scenarios.

If i could find something that's on the Fo3 soundtrack list though...

i'm sure that when you'll release the tutorial ... many people including me will produce their own stuff in order to satisfy their own needs ... i just want that big plasma in my hideout playing some music video clips ..lol

thanks for all of your hard work .. can't wait

Could become a reality since I just decided to change my initial merging policy.
A big screen would require going to 8k in my opinion,
since it may look too pixelated with anything above the current size.
8k also increases loading times though.
