Overview :
Why does the Dragonborn always win every fight? Because the Player can reload the game over and over, trying every strategy until they find the solution. But what if this was not simply a Player Mechanic, but rather an integral aspect of the Universe? Temporal Restoration is a 'death overhaul' mod with a major difference: the Dragonborn does not simply return from death, but rather has the ability to actively relive the events leading up to their death.
This Mod began as an idea for a 'Groundhog Day' style situation, with the Player being forced to live over the same events again and again until they solved the associated puzzle; but from there it evolved, and became more akin to 'Edge of Tomorrow', with the Dragonborn returning to a pre-defined moment each time s/he died, retaining their experience and knowledge, but existing in a world which has not yet experienced those events.
Disclaimer :
Temporal Restoration utilises FISS functionality in order to record and save data associated with your character, and then use that information to dynamically reconstruct your stats upon reload. It is considered a highly experimental Mod, and may have the potentially to break your saves. For the present, it is considered "Use At Your Own Risk". If you find any issues or bugs when using this Beta version, please report them.
How It Work :
When you first load Temporal Restoration, your ability to manually save is deactivated. Attempting to make a manual Save will result in a message about being unable to Save at that time. Across the world, 'Dragon Obelisks' will appear. These large structures are the key to Saving your game. By approaching the front of a Dragon Obelisk you will find a small 'Touchstone'. Activating it will Save your Game, recording various details about your Character such as your Level, Skills, Vanilla Perks unlocked, Spells acquired and Shouts Unlocked.
When you activate a Dragon Obelisk, your Soul is bound to that moment in Time and Space. If you should die for any reason, your Soul will be drawn out of your body and cast backwards in time to that moment. It will be as if the days which followed never occured. In practical terms, this is loading a Save Game. When you are recalled to a Dragon Obelisk, your previously saved information is read and your relevant information is updated--your Character and Skill Level will be set to what it was at the moment of your death, your unlocked Shouts and acquired Spells will be updated to match what you had when you died, and your unlocked Perks, Perk Points and Dragon Souls will likewise be updated. In short, although the physical world will reset, your Character's mental aspects will remain (almost) constant to what they were when you died.
At present, there are four Dragon Obeliskes in Skyrim--one near Riverwood, one outside High Hrothgar, another near Riften, and a fourth near Markarth.
In order to initially activate a Dragon Obelisk, you must have at least one Dragon Soul. The Dragon Soul will NOT be spent upon activating the Dragon Obelisk, and is only needed for the first Activation. You can tell if a Dragon Obelisk is active by the faint glow around the Touchstone. The first time you activate a Dragon Obelisk, you will receive two new spells : 'Temporal Restoration' and 'Create Temporal Imprint'. You currently linked Dragon Obelisk is identified by the three ignited braziers.
Create Temporal Imprint is a Greater Power which can be used one every twenty-four hours to manually Save your game. It works exactly like a Dragon Obelisk.
Temporal Restoration allows you to instantly return to a previously marked moment in Time and Space, and works as a Reload Option. You can also Reload via the Menu at any time. Temporal Restoration can be used an infinite amount of times.
Multiple Characters :
On first loading Temporal Restoration, each Character is assigned a 24-Digit ID Code. This ID Code is used to determine which Save File is associated with which Character. Therefore, you should be able to use Temporal Restoration with multiple Characters, without fear of one Character's information overwriting another's.
What You Keep :
You will keep your Character Level, individual Skill Levels, Character Level Experience, Skill Level Experience, any acquired Spells, any unlocked Vanilla Perks, any unlocked Vanilla/Dawnguard/Dragonborn Shouts, acquired Dragon Souls, acquired Perk Points.
What You Will Lose :
Items such as Weapons and Armour, Quest Progress, Faction Relationships, NPC Relationships.
Current Issues :
- At this time, it is unknown what happens when a Vampire or Werewolf Restores to a point where they had not previously become a Vampire or Werewolf. It is highly likely these functions will be broken due to how they rely on background Scripts.
- Presently, re-arranging your Load Order could break the Mod's ability to work out which Spells you are meant to have. Adding new Mods to the end of your Load Order should be fine.
