Temporary replacement by bot?

Post » Sun Jul 18, 2010 10:15 pm

I can't remember where I heard this, but I figured I'd churn out another topic. So, is it true that even online, you can choose to be replaced by a bot temporarily if you have go afk, however in that you don't gain exp?

It's CONFIRMED that it happens when someone leaves, but I haven't heard anything if they AFK. I imagine it would be covered though, as SD went through plenty of thinking.

As long as you gain no experience for it, I see no problems with this idea. However I cannot confirm nor deny whether this is actually in the game.

Don't take my word for it, but I think they said they scrapped the AFK BOT Replace feature over at the Splash Damage forum :/

I think it would be nice if you could choose to be replaced, or your teammates could vote for you to be replaced if you weren't moving, but then as you came back, you would take over that bot. The bot would not be a random character, but rather your own.

There was going to be an AFK bot control function, they couldn't get it working how they wanted it, so they swapped it for a "boot idle player" function.

If you sit still long enough, the game will throw you out to be replaced by a bot.

yes, they confirmed this at the SD forums, but it has since been nerfed because it was too hard to implement :sadvaultboy:

That's a shame, it was a really good idea.

Actually I hate playing against AFK people. It provides for no challenge. It's so boring. It's more fun to kill someone who is doing something like completing the objective and gets killed at the last second or someone who saw you and is chasing after you but you cut the corner go into a building, jump out the window and shoot them in the back then someone who isn't even paying attention.

Imo the best solution anyway.
