Tenpenny s Journey

Post » Mon Apr 26, 2010 2:34 am

During a recent discussion about the rest of the world, Mr. Enclave provided very solid proof that Fo3 s Mr. Tennpenny did in fact migrate to the U.S.

Mr. Enclave provided a link to an interview with the lead developer of Fo3. In the interview he said that Tenpenny did come from the U.K., but they didn t have Tenpenny tell us his story, because the developers wanted to leave it up to our imaginations.

I don t like this tactic by the Fo3 devs one bit, but the question still remains. How did Tenpenny get from the U.K. to the U.S. in a world with very little resources to power crafts or vessels that we know of today?

I say he could have hired men to build a clipper type ship, and sailed over.

What do you think? Feel free to bash Bethesdas decision to " leave it up to our imaginations." Just please don t get too out of control and get the thread locked. I feel they dropped the ball on this, and missed a chance to answer some of all fo fans questions about the state of the U.K., and possibly more.....

This seems the most plausible explanation.

If I remember correctly Galleys would sink half way on the journey because of the harsh weather conditions.

Also, just think of the horrible sea-life.

If Lakelurks were made from snapping turtles, I dread to think what sharks, giant squid, whales and the like have become. I'm betting it ain't pretty, and I'm guessing they aren't exactly going to make sea travel easy.

Maybe sea-time was minimised by travelled to Iceland, Greenland and then down through Canada... damn, think of everything he could have dispelled and cast light on, then again maybe I should be grateful?

The link to the said article can be found in the threads of the topic...what about the rest of the world outside the U.S.??? I would take "The Enclave" s post and put it here, but I really haven t ever taking post quotes from other theads and including them in other topics. I m sure it would be a disaster if I were to try.

Someone also brought up that the one Great Khan women if fo nv located by near Quarry Junction speaks with possibly a New Zealand accent. Did she migrate to the U.S. as well??

In fo3 your father seemed to speak with a slight English accent as well. Was he a direct decent of people who came from England????

Many new and important questions have been opened up by this interview, with no real answers.

Both fo3 and nv have people with strong foreign accents. How much world travel is really going on out there, and why don t we know more about it?

Yes, one would think that a clipper type sailing ship would be the best option. Blueprints or real life examples left over would provide the ground work to building one. A world map, a compass, and enough men would get Tenpenny to the U.S. Dangerous indeed, but we know it has been done many times before in real life

Its also possible he found a more modern sea worthy vessel and scraqed enough resources together to power it.

If I remember correctly the Kahn was of New Zealand decent, as Kahn's originated from Vault 15 which had a great mix of cultures and was wildly diverse.

I really never talked to the Kahns much, because 2 kahns helped Benny try to kill me. There for my characters see all Khans as guilty buy association.

Do any of the other Khans speak with that strong of an accent in nv??

Papa Kahn has a bit of an accent but it seems more southern than foreign, but decades of offspring can mask accents fairly well with only a hint of one remaining, she probably just has it from her ma and da.

I don t think we should be grateful, because even if Bethesda holds on to fo and keeps Obsidian making fo it would take like 30 years for them to cover all that at the rate they punch out games.

Plus they have to continue the stories here in the states. Tenpenny shedding light on the subject would have left more specific questions than " What about the rest of the world."

We would then be able to think about what could be in those based on what he said.

I feel they f ed up, because I don t like books that don t have an ending, or games that don t have an ending, or stories in games that r not explained at least a little

I was thinking... Maybe the UK was largely unharmed and Tenpenny's family was extremely wealthy butaybe taxes were high or a plague from the mainland of Europe and Tenpenny's father decided to take his chances in America. So they packed up on a pretty high tech boat and sailed to the New Wasteland. Then his father found that he had the first signs of that plague. He dies before they reach land and young Tenpenny is alone. His father had a small fortunes worth of food, pure water, tech, and weapons. Upon arriving Tenpenny sells everything he doesn't need and begins wandering, surviving. He eventually comes across the soon to be Tennpenny tower and you all probably know the rest.

Lies, lies, lies, people during the Ice Age used crude boats to cross from Europe over to Newfoundland in Canada.

It would be perfectly possible for Tenpenny and other European residents who had that itch for migration or nomads to decide to cross the lake, that turns out to be an ocean.

That doesn't change the fact that the sea would have changed drastically, and that not everyone is so lucky as to cross safely.

I agree.

I never liked the idea of trans-atlantic travel in the Fallout universe.

I like it, seems more realistic. Problem is we still have a game from 10 years ago that we don t know what happened. Bethesda needs go keep Obsidian, and they both need to bust out games that have endings so the series can have faster answers and cover more ground. They need to have only a few years pass between games or a few months to slow down the time line too.

This is all IMO

He's a businessman.

My bet is he sailed to the old new world looking for a trade route, and something kept him from going back - a shipwreck, a bun in the oven, something like that.

a bun in the oven lol that s a good one.

WHY WOULD BETHESDA DO THIS?????? It doesn t even take a good writer to make up the story. "Leave it to our imaginations"

Thats the excuse some novelists use as to why they don t tell you what happened at the end of a book. You read 372 pages then they don t tell you the ending. If I wanted to imagine that much I d write the damn book myself.

DON T DO THAT ANY MORE BETHESDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
