Terrain and texture

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 1:12 am

Hey everyone. Just me again with what prolly seems like a silly question. is it possible to change a terrain's texture while the game is active. For example taking rocky/dirt terrain texture and switching out for a grass or more lush looking texture. The idea i had but haven;t seen is to have a quest that at one point allow you to kinda make a previously barren area that was caused by the baddy to start becoming greener once the quest is done. Kind of like the influence of the quest evil boss has killed the vegetation, made it barren, in the area while it's around, evil aura/influence and all. Then when the quest is complete to have a side quest to slowly get the terrain back to habitable more fertile ( finally, that was the word I was looking for ) look.

So i guess that's the Question can it be done and if so could some one point me in the general direction.

Thanx

It doesn't work with the default terrain, but you could make a terrain mesh using a 3d Program (3dsMax, Blender, whatever), make two different textured versions of the same mesh and add it as an activator in the CS and attach a script.

I think this could be done swapping terrain meshes in interior as exterior cells. Terrain meshes can be obtained using Yacoby's http://yacoby.silgrad.com/MW/Mods/CellToNif.htm and NIFSkope, but you are limited to one texture/mesh so you will need other grass/detailing items to make things more realistic.
P.S. maybe better move this thread to the construction set forum
