So I defeated Eater of Worlds for the first time this morning - got a Shadowscale Helmet, 60 demonite Ore (made a new pickaxe ), as well as 40 or so Shadow Scales. He spawned right after I destroyed a shadow orb, he then killed me and then sought me out at my base. I lost my merchant during the fight, but I think it was worth it.

So, should I try to get all gold armor and a demonite sword before attempting to kill the Eater of Worlds, and should I seek out something like Vilethorn as well? My mushroom farms provide enough potions.

I killed Eater of Worlds with gold armour and a gold broadsword/shurikens. Took me some time.

Rant:

I NEVER FIND ANYTHING UNDERGROUND. It takes ages to get to hell, and then I get bored defending myself from those teleporting kangaroos. I've only ever found one chest too.

Yeah, gold armor is good. And I actually prefer using a demonite pick for that fight rather than a demonite sword (it swings faster). Though if you summon it by destroying 3 shadow orbs rather than with worm food, there's a good chance you'll loot a Vilethorn or Ball-o-Hurt for the fight anyway.

Yeah, I can probably keep a server up pretty regularly, the only thing is I'm not sure what people's progression in the game is, so I dunno if I should open up one of my worlds with hellforges and fancy stuff or just start a blank world.

Be more fun that way.

A blank large world, with new characters EXCEPT for grappling hooks. Hooks are a pain the in the ass to find.

I'll host a server and leave it up all day tomorrow, starting tomorrow of course. I'm downloading something atm so I can't host until that's done.

edit: Mine has been pretty stable in the past, but my internet could crap out of course.

Just go into your router settings and find the port forward option, make sure port 7777 is open. It's simple.

I did this just now.... and my router won't save the option

I've followed everything on Terrarias support page on how to get a server up but nobody can connect to me.

I hope real MP support comes soon.

Boomerang
Flintlock pistol
Loads of shurikens

Should I just sell everything and keep the phaseblade and ball o hurt? The boomerang is useless (ball o hurt kicks everyone's butts), and I use the phaseblade underground. The pistol seems useless too.

with some hellstone bars you can turn that boomerang into a flamarang. Then it becomes win.
