Terraria Thread II

I've moved my base down to a couple hundred feet above Hell, spawn point and all. I've dug out quite a little outpost down there, and I intend to gather as much Hellstone as I can. Speaking of which, how do you guys deal with those annoying imps?

Keep swinging your pick, it will help deflect fireballs while you mine.

I usually just mine a straight line down to a vein then backfill with dirt or ash so imps wont be able to spawn near me then the only thing to worry about are bone serpents.

I found a corrupted area, with a shadow orb surrounded by that tough rock type. I blew it open with dynamite and got a gun from the orb. I also found a dungeon with an 'old man' in it, and that did not end well!

Update!

Controls
Right clicking and holding on a crafting recipe will craft multiple of the same item to a max of the stack and/or until you run out of materials.

Items
NEW ITEM : Sticky Bombs, Requires 5 Gel and a Bomb.
Sand Duping bug fixed.
Placing a bed far from the spawn no longer causes a player who has set their spawn there to crash on join.
Mining stone and other hard ores make a 'tink' noise now.
Hellstone and Obsidian now require at least a Demonite pick to gather.
Sand no longer spawns within a certain distance of the spawn location, This should remove the chance of spawning in a desert with no wood to use.
Hellstone now correctly takes as long to dig as meteor does.
The clay pot item now has the correct size.

Performance
Frame-skip is now correctly ON by default for new players.
Increased Client Side Multiplayer stability. Should resolve many crash causes.
Corrected a bug where players would intermittently not take falling damage.
The world file is now saved to a temporary file that is copied over to the actual save file. This prevents world corruption when saving is interrupted.
Fixed a bug that disabled some error handling. Overall game stability should be improved.

GUI
The version number of the game now shows on the title screen.
Typing numbers in chat no longer changes your selected item in your hotbar.

Server
Servers now listen to all IP addresses on the hosting PC, regardless of how many network connections are active.
Typing "localhost" instead of your own local IP address will connect to your own same-PC server.
The games default port is no longer ELEET (31337) it is now 7777.
Client will now resolve a hostname into its IP address, for example, if randomsite.org ran a server, you could type randomsite.org as the IP address and be able to connect.

no more clicking until your fingers fall off when crafting :)

I don't see anything there that makes it easier to get servers going.

With the most recent update I can suddenly host servers, but I've pretty much got all the end game items so I guess there's no point in playing much anymore til there's a big content update.

I've dug REAL DEEP, I'm coming across a lot of lava pools. It seems the deeper I go....everything is staying the same. Just loads of rock and then some lava pools. Also, there are barely any monsters! No threat at all.

I also passed through some mushroom land thingie.

EDIT: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I may have stumbled into hell.

I have LOADS of copper ingots, what should I do with them? I've got better tier weapons and tools already.

I'll second that!

So I have begun construction on a massive red brick fortress that is lit by hellstone (mostly). For the outer shell I have used over 1000 red bricks and over a stack of hellstone. Needing more clay for bricks I have scoured the world, and even created new worlds just to get easy access surface clay, and I now have over 2000 clay to make bricks out of. I hope it is enough to finish the interior.

What color should the walls be? Stone walls, red brick walls, hellstone walls or pink brick walls?

Once MP Steam support (or easy equivalent) is up, I'll invite players to see it or maybe just create a server world out of it :D

I tried to kill Skeletron with a golden broadsword and fire arrows.

I'll take Bone's advice next time.

Yeeeah... Skeletron is pretty much only beatable if you have top tier equipment. I had to deck my guy out in hellstone armor and used a flamarang to beat him and I was still downing potions like crazy.

I hated this game, a waste of my 10 dollars. Now you have to hear me complain about it.

Don't take out your repressed memories of being violated by a gang of orcs on Terraria.

To be fair it's pretty unforgiving to new players. The first day you're just trying to figure out what you're doing. Being assaulted by slimes while you're talking to the hint guy doesn't help. And if you don't figure out what you're doing by nightfall you're screwed. Once you're properly equipped enough to defend yourself the game becomes much more enjoyable.

I will be happy if they at least include a pause button for singleplayer games. That'd sure help.

Yeah. All the 0's are from overzealous Minecraft fans who say it's just a Minecraft ripoff but obviously haven't played the game a lot, or even at all. :P

did you guys know sometimes if you minimize the game the game will go into super fast mode? It is a good way to get to night real quick. Just make sure no monsters can get to you or you will die in seconds.

Minecraft is for people who like building. The main reason for spelunking is to get better tools/building materials.

Terraria is for people who like fighting. The main reason for spelunking is to get better weapons/armor/accessories.

That's how I see it.
