Terraria Thread II

Post » Fri Sep 17, 2010 4:52 am

Minecraft is for people who like building. The main reason for spelunking is to get better tools/building materials.

Terraria is for people who like fighting. The main reason for spelunking is to get better weapons/armor/accessories.

That's how I see it.

The way I see it this whole thing started with Dwarf Fortress. Notch took the idea, cut out all the fortress stuff and left the mining, pretty much creating a new genre in the process. Terraria would just be the second game added to that genre. No more a copy cat than Halflife is of Quake, and it used the same basic engine. I expect we'll be seeing more games like this soon. http://fabritoid.blogspot.com/

To be fair it's pretty unforgiving to new players. The first day you're just trying to figure out what you're doing. Being assaulted by slimes while you're talking to the hint guy doesn't help. And if you don't figure out what you're doing by nightfall you're screwed. Once you're properly equipped enough to defend yourself the game becomes much more enjoyable.

I found MC more difficult to start. The guide helps you a lot. There is a sense of direction in the game.

Anyway, what do you guys do with copper bars? I've got LOADS, and all my stuff is better than copper (gold etc).

I will sell it then. I think I'll try to get down to hell. However the last time I tried I got torn to bit. Damn my gold broadsword!

I'm thinking of starting a small world (I chose the biggest option at first). The only thing I've built is my own home anyway.

Yea the small world option is better for single player worlds.

I've already conquered the bosses, the dungeon and the jungle. As well as being decked out in top gear. I want a bigger update and more difficult areas/bosses.

This game has potential for a very long playthrough if they manage to add more interesting things.

I agree, I think the content updates will make or break the game. I'm really enjoying it at the moment, but when I go online I see loads of people with all the best armour who have beaten all the bosses and cleared all the dungeons, and the games only been out for about a week. If they keep adding endgame content, bosses and maybe even some more dungeon environments it'll be amazing.

It seems my single player world has been corrupted at the moment though. Does anyone know a way to fix this? I was going to upload some screenies of my house, and I've left all my money in a chest there!

Was there not a back up save file thing in the latest update?
Just have look though the folders should be in there somewhere.

Started a new game. My spawn is right next to corrupted land!

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13877155/new.jpg. It's got everything I need. I'll never need to build anything ever again!

EDIT: TWO BLOODMOONS in a row. No one can enter my house though!

This game is much more focused on exploration. Building stuff is secondary.

Imagine MC but with an end goal in mind (creating new armour/weapons/stuff to kill stronger opponents by venturing into more dangerous areas) instead of building stuff.

did you guys know sometimes if you minimize the game the game will go into super fast mode? It is a good way to get to night real quick. Just make sure no monsters can get to you or you will die in seconds.

So....I can't advance in hell because the imps are too much for me. I mean they don't kill me, but my 3 damage infliction using the gold sword is nothing more than a minor annoyance to them. Evidently, I'm not ready for hell yet. Where can I go then?

Try eater of worlds or eye of cthulu(?) to get some demonite ore for the next set of gear.

The best place for you to go now would probably be the corruption. Enemies are a little tougher there than the underground but not nearly as tough as hell. You can find dark altars there where you can construct items that will let you summon the Eye of Cthulu or World Eater. They're hard to defeat but both drop materials that will let you construct higher tier weapons and armor. You can also find dark orbs there (bring dynamite). Occasionally when you destroy one a meteor will fall somewhere and that should be your next target.

Well I'm quite sure my gold sword will barely inflict any damage. I haven't found any weapons in chests. :( In fact I've only found one chest up till now (at least 6 hours of playing).

I'm thinking of going into corrupt land.
