I'm trying to create an obsidian factory. How do you manage to get LOADS of lava? 50 buckets?

The idea is having lava on the right side, and water on the left side. I use the lava pool to fill up one bucket, and place the bucket in the middle of the bottom "tunnel". I break that one block (clay) and the water pours down onto the lava.

Basically this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGj3-0r8D8Q

But this will take LOADS of lava.

EDIT: I've just realised I can't mind obsidian. I need a nightmare pickaxe. Goddammit. Still, can someone help me out?

Why bother with all that, just dig a tunnel to hell and take any water you find on the way until it all pours down into hell.

That's what I do, but I don't go down to hell, I make enough obsidian out of the big lava pools underground. Obsidian farms are boring and tedious, and borderline cheating if you use the glitch to duplicate lava.

You can't mind things, but you can mine them.

How does he put in lava and take it out again at the same time?

EDIT: I also assume that you guys use the wiki to learn how to craft this into that and to know what is needed to summon a monster or to evade damage from hellstone etc right? Cause I'm on the wiki all the time.

"You feel a evil pressence watching you"... what does that mean? I'm getting scared. I have no armor and a copper sword.

Same here. Knew it was a bad idea to boast that Yog-Sohoth was a better eldrich being....

Only 6 normal potions, a stack of throwing stars, silver armor, and a near heart attack.

Never died once, though. :celebration:

I don't understand why people feel the need to overcomplicate obsidian mining. Dig down, dump a pond into a magma pool, then mine the stuff out from underwater. It's super easy and a lot faster than trying to trick the game into making more magma than you'll ever need. I mean really, you're not going to run out. Have you seen the amount of magma down there?

I'd rather get obsidian from my own factory, plus it looks cool. Anyway, 8 minutes of grabbing the lava in mid air and now I've got a whole vat of lava.

Nice reproduction!

If you used the fire flower on that slime and did the level complete music at the flag it would be perfect.

About the music, once i get used to using things i will make things fit a bit more.

So after defeating several World Eaters and obtaining tons o' Demonite, I sold a bunch to afford the Minishark. And then, just for kicks, I decided to summon an Eye to see how it performed. That fight was so easy it was trivial. Might just be my new favorite weapon. I do like using the Ball o' Hurt for blood moons and Vilethorn for the World Eaters, though.

What's everyone's favorite accessory? So far (having not yet entered the dungeon, jungle or much of hell...) mine's the balloon (in concert with the cloud). I rarely have to pull out the grapple just because I can already basically reach for the sky.

My fav is the Muramasa and Sunfury. I hear the Sunfury is really rare.... I got it on my third bone worm kill on my first visit to the underworld, and proceeded to own Skeletron in under 3 minutes.

Lucky horseshoe; though I wear the flippers, anklet of wind, and balloon too. (my focus is mobility, as you can see)

I have 3 Aklets of the Wind, Necro Armor and Hermes boots on, when I wanna go fast.

GIVE ME SUNFURY

How long is it taking for people to get anywhere in this game? I've put in about 5 hours and I just found my first special item, a ring that regenerates health. And my most rare enemy has been 2 fire imps. (Who owned me to the point I had to save and exit mid battle)

The first 12 hours I used on mining and exploring, 12 hour streak.

I've just realised that the Dryad hasn't appeared yet, and I've killed 2 boss monsters.

I've got a home for her already.

EDIT: Meteor armour isn't worth it!

I haven't really found much of a use for mana with the current items. What are the good magic items I may be overlooking?
