I've got some questions now that I've made some progress...

I created this mansion:

1) However I've already got 3 NPCs (guide, merchant, demolitionist) living in 3 houses near spawn. Is there a way to make them come to this mansion?

2) I've found a considerable amount of gold, is it worth making equipment out of it? (I'm just thinking of minecraft right now, and gold is worthless in that game)

3) SHOULD I GO DEEPER? Kinda scared since I have no armour, no magic (how does one even learn magic?), and the only thing I'm proficient in is using a sword.

Gold is the best standard metal in the game. So armor, tools, gold is good for them.

Go deeper? [censored] yes go deeper, once you made yourself some tools. Try to get a grappling hook ASAP. Magic is tied to certain items. So to use some items, you have to expend mana.

Gold swords seem to be pretty good. Only a little stronger than iron, but also much faster.


I hope that in one of the next updates Terraria will support higher resolutions, having to use TerrariaWrapper for it right now isn't ideal.

By the way, what does the Parallax option in the menus do exactly?

Man I just read on the wiki how little magic is in this game. That really svcks especially that they are all in the late game.

I remember watching a LP and the guy built a house away from the original spawn,
He made a bed and set it as his spawn point, he went digging for a bit died and when he got back the guide was out side.

I'm not sure if it will work for other npcs if it doesnt, tear down the house and wait awhile and maybe they will show up.

Parallax makes the backgrounds scroll like they're far in the distance. The higher the setting the stronger the effect. 0 basically turns it off, making the background scroll at the same rate as foreground stuff.

It's pretty easy Just heal a lot and constantly hit it.

I killed my first one purely with shurikens, had run out of arrows defeating Eater of Worlds a few days before and had forgotten to restock them.

It's been a good run. Found tons of gold and silver, lots of gems, got a hook from skeletons and made a grappling hook, found underground glowing mushroom trees and got seeds from them, got a magic boomerang, several more life upgrades, boots that make me run fast...

The wiki says iron is supposed to be only slightly less common than copper but I tend to find more silver than iron. If you dig down to the stone layer you'll find more ores in general.

A good method I've found for digging down is to bring a whole buttload of wooden planks. First dig straight down 4 levels then add wooden planks just above your head. Then dig down another 6 levels and do the same. Repeat digging down 6 levels until you reach a cavern or something. Then go down as far as you can and repeat the process. Stop when you get to the lasagna sauce. Trust me, you're not ready for hell yet.

Edit: Also if you do dig straight down, occasionally you'll have zombies or skeletons drop on your head. You can avoid this by digging horizontally every few levels. Or you can be like me and just deal with whatever drops down when it happens.

I never create a passage where I can retrace my steps. As I get very very deep down the earth I just save and quit, and reload the game. I end up at spawn.

I've moved my base down to a couple hundred feet above Hell, spawn point and all. I've dug out quite a little outpost down there, and I intend to gather as much Hellstone as I can. Speaking of which, how do you guys deal with those annoying imps?
