Am I an absolutely terrible Mother?

Frankly, my Natalia couldn't care less about her son and thought her husband was a weenie.

Sure it was disturbing to see her husband get shot in the head and her child taken away, but, I didn't create her to be all that caring. She's a nice person and doesn't want to see people get hurt or anything, but she has just written her family off as dead, especially since she's found out it's 210 years since she went under and the world is a totally different place.

Maybe I'm lucky that the kid really doesn't come up all that much unless I bring him up - so I don't.

Either my RP is WAAAYYYY too deep; I'm a horrible person with no compassion; or, maybe, it really doesn't matter. I know what the end game options are, but, I can't see myself following through on them after everything I know is going to happen between now and then.

Anyone else have this quandry?

BTW: Anywhere to post screen shots and videos?

You can create any character in your head. But the game will always make you a caring mother/father and be a goody 2 shoes.

My female character has enough snap to realize her dear little baby

Spoiler
is no longer a baby as she figured out years have passed
since she was
Spoiler
accidently, (she had ran into a terminal in the vault that indicated that)

thawed out.

She has interest in finding him but fully realizes

Spoiler
he wont' know WTF she is
and she isn't sure she should care given her and the

worlds situation.

The story is ham-handed and abbreviated, it gives me no particular reason to care.

John Wick's motivation was heavy-handed, but the reason for caring was about 50 times better done.

You seem to contradict yourself in your characters personality. Apparently your characters family life was so miserable that she wrote off a newborn baby and her own husband, but is willing to be nice and compassionate to others.

So...if you're really asking? Yeah you're a terrible mother.

The abandonment and disdain of family is about as universal a taboo across all of humanity. Not judging you for role playing it, but I think you have a hard time reconciling "nice person" with "can't be bothered with family".

The game doesn't really give the feeling that the parent cares that much even if you wanted to. If i was really in their shoes I would be ripping Boston apart looking for my child (actually more likely I would have been killed 10 mins after leaving the vault). Without spoiling it there is a part in the MQ where certain info is thrown at us 3-4 times and not once does the PC pick up on it or least never comments on it which I found ultra frustrating because I wanted to question the person about it but instead all I say is some cheesy threat. So in light of that I have changed how I RP this game and now I am a mother who just doesn't give a crap about anyone except me, oh and dogmeat cause his love is real.

Not for me. Being nice for fun and profit. Being a family person - a burden.

I think the game is pretty good at giving you a good reason not to be following only the main plot, unlike other games.

Your only lead on Shaun is an eccentric drug-addicted fortune teller.

So, literally, you have a reason to explore the Wasteland and kill Raiders because ANYWHERE YOU GO is a potential lead on Shaun.

And you ARE ripping the Wasteland apart looking for Shaun--given you kill well over 300 people before you're done.

Also, I don't know where you get you can't ask about Shaun. I did all the time.

I consider the opening sequence to be a cryo induced nightmare. I have not pursued the intended story in any fashion. I mean, the opening sequence has a very dreamlike quality to it. You're stuck in a place that you can't really explore and you have no agency in the outcome other than following the weird and winding dream to end up inside of a cryo-stasis chamber. You even have a dream about the person across from you getting shot when somebody takes his kid. When you wake up and check the records, everybody died of asphyxiation. Between the cold affecting your brain and a little bit of asphyxia, it's no wonder you had such horrible dreams.

(Maybe another character will bite...)

If that works for you then great but it does not work for me and I have no idea who you are talking to that brings up the missing kid. Sure NPC's tied to the main quest but that is only a line or 2 which to me lack emotion. Heck my PC didn't even seem to blink at that total recall place which would have ripped me up big time. Guess she is tougher than I am which doesn't say much. As I said before I have found my RP for my character so I am ok with it.

Pretend your son is a pinata filled with power armor and caps... You will care more about finding him.

Well the main quest is what I refer to.

I tell Nick
I tell Desdemona
I tell Elder Maxson

I tell Preston
I tell Mother Murphy

I tell Piper

I tell the Mayor of Diamond City

If I bring it up a dozen or so times in a video game, I think I'm pretty much asking everyone.

You can easily roleplay

Spoiler
that she knows her son was raised by someone else and to him she's just a scary stranger. Maybe she thinks it would be cruel to take him away from the only home he's ever known and thrust him out into the dangerous world where she herself is barely getting by and is constantly threatened. She can't keep him safe.

Oh, the things you're going to discover late-game.. (If its your first playthrough c;)

I'd say theres no karmic kinda thing in this game - you just pick a side, theres no one definitive right because each group truly believes what they do is in humanities best interest. Even if thats shooting a childs parents in the face.
