Terrible Settlement Attacked Alert

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 9:59 pm

I just need to vent right now because I just played a hour through a vault and realized I have to load an old save because I missed the settlement attack notification. Now my things are all destroyed. Had I known, I would have paused my quest, went to defend, then resumed my quest.

Who designed the settlement attack alerts?! It's absolutely inadequate. No one is going to pay attention to the top left corner for 2-3 seconds when you are in a life and death shoot-out with enemies!

Please can we have an option to allow the messages to repeat?

(I'm on a PS4)

if you can't add mods, then sorry. but if you can, there's a very light, incredibly useful settlement alerts mod on nexus.

make the message alert a popup box, can't miss it. and tells you what type of attack - by raiders, mutants, gunners, synth infiltration, etc.

This issue comes up regularly. Hopefully it's fixed very soon. Would be great to see Bethesda run 'hot fixes' as Bungie do for Destiny. Quick fixes for all the smaller code issues players keep reporting.

Yeah i agree its far to easy to miss em.(if you play on PC you can get a mod that fixes the issue by giving you proper notifications)

I missed one of theses and my entire settlement bugged out.

It stopped making water. Radio freedom stopped. No one would do anything.

The stopped making water is an unrelated bug. Although annoying. To fix, you need to essentially kick start water production again by introducing any action which makes settlement re-calculate water production.

Turning on/off water purifiers or unplugging power won't work to fix. If you notice your daily water deposits stop, and just won't start again, only 'fix' I've been able to 100% cure with is change the water output by any amount and it makes settlement re-start water. So add one little water pump, then delete it the next day after water restarts.

RF stopping - some would say that is a blessing :)

Personally I think their should be a distance limitation on the settlement alerts. They should only come up if you're pretty near the settlement.

There's a mod which addresses this issue by forcing the message into a proper messagebox - and this has worked a treat for me:

YES! Thank you. How do we know about these attacks anyway? ESP? I want them gone completely.

I've got my settlers decked out in combat gear and given them good weapons and also added lots of sentry guns, etc.

Why do they need my help, again?

Well they shouldnt, however the autodefences are a bit bugged(or not made properly), which means if you are not present there will be some dmg to the settlment, despite your defences being more than capable of killing everything in few seconds.

Hope they fix it though cuz it is kinda anoying always having to go there, espeicaly if you know your defences there will slaughter teh atackers in few secs once you travel in anyway.

heh I really don't bother even putting in any defenses. With the exception with sanctuary I have not put any defenses in any other settlement. The smaller the settlement is the less people I leave there. The whole settlement system and attack system on settlements needs to be completely reworked.

I understand that the higher your defense the chance of an attack is less, but making the player have to be at the settlement for the defense to work is rather stupid. Whats the point of adding defenses if I have to be there anyway?

this happened to me once and I decided not to load an old save game to protect the settlement. worst thing that happened was a few vegetables and settlers were destroyed, and of course happiness went down a little. nothing that cannot be corrected with a little effort.

I completely agree. I was following Dogmeat on a main story quest, and was fighting a bear when the message popped up. No sound or chime, just a tiny little text float that appeared for, yeah, 2-3 seconds, and vanished.

There really should be check to not spawn attacks when you are doing a main story mission. Some of those, like the one I was on, are LONG.

The notifications seem to start working better once I activated Freedom Radio, they actually seem to stay onscreen longer. I rarely miss them now. The system needs lots of work, hopefully when the GECK comes out they'll make one of those mods for Xbox One.

It seems to me that there are often no notifications at all - either of pending attack or of "failed to defend". Often the attack itself seems to be entirely invisible, with not even the settlers reacting to it!

I've been extra cautious after my last bugged settlement defence caused me to lose about 4 hrs of gameplay by reloading. However, in my current game, I've just noticed in Pip-boy one of my large settlements showing a defence warning sign, despite having surplus defence over food + water. I go there, and the place is destroyed.

I back up about twenty minutes in saves (I'm now saving every few minutes to try and catch these mysterious settlement destructions) and go to the settlement - ie should be in plenty of time for the attack, even if its not notified.

Whilst i'm standing there, all the crops start to fall over, the turrets go offline and the generators stop. The settlement is destroyed before my eyes. The settlers appear not to notice anything. Oddly, there is some blood spattered on my field of view, as if I in combat - but there is nothing. No enemy, no gunfire - just my settlement being destroyed.

This game really is bugged to hell (my install is completely vanilla with no mods).

Wow. Just wow. Ok so I know that you have a very legitimate point. How? Because until now I didn't know there were notifications of attacks. I thought the attacks just happened randomly if you were in the settlement. I'm not kidding. So if there are, then yes they are entirely inadequate :DDD Wow.

yes the settlement alert system svcks... so I set the auto save to 5 mins and every time it saves ( slight pause in game play ) I check my pip boy quest log if a settlement is under attack it will show up on top in the miscellaneous section it's tedious & annoying but if you want to go help defend it helps a lot

I found a little power lever by the radio setup that shuts off the PA speakers.

..Thank the Gods. I was prepared to murder the radio operator and accept the consequences just as I found it.

You'll just have to either wait for a fix or for a mod on the PS4.

The whole settlement attack system is terrible, did you know that if you spend the time and resources properly walling in your entire settlement then enemies will just spawn inside instead? I've found my turrets to be almost useless to and unless I spam missile turrets everywhere I always have to fast travel there and clean up the attackers myself.
