Terrible Solstheim textures

Post » Fri Jan 02, 2015 5:23 am

I'm experiencing some visual problems that seem tied to Solstheim somehow.

Oftentimes when approaching Raven Rock, various visual elements will appear 'doubled'. Glover Mallory's forge will have two roofs, one sort of stuck into the other and of a very low quality.

When I approach Fort Frostmoth, a similar issue: pieces of the wall will be big, block, and low-res, while other parts of the wall will be normal.

Tel Mithryn, Skaal Village - same deal.

It's almost as though the distant textures are sticking around even when I get close to these places.

Mod list is extremely small. I'm using Mod Organizer, and the profile I first really noticed this with had just the following mods:

SKSE

SkyUI

Alternate Start

Warburg's Paper World Map

Now, a few months ago I posted here regarding some problems with installing bethesda's hi-res texture packs. It seemed to be the consensus that the problem stemmed from my computer's using a 32-bit system. I guess this issue could be related. But I ran Skyrim on this very machine since release, and never had so many issues with Solstheim, visually.

Does this sound like a driver update problem, or graphics card, or mods, or 32-bit? Or...?

Likely you having issues related with the memory since the 32 bit OS version since that only can use about 3.2 gigs of ram and the OS likely needs about a gig of that if not more depending on the Operating system. Issue can also be with Mod Organizer. I have never used it but since it manages mods in virtual folders maybe and it might not be set up correctly.

Hmm, so the 32-bit fact of my setup might be clashing with how Mod Organizer does things?

Do you have done a proper unistallation of your game ???

---------------

First do a standard uninstall. (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features-> Uninstall The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

Next, delete your skyrim folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\

Then delete your Skyrim directory under Documents/ My Games

Then under C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\ - Delete the Skyrim folder that is in it.
(You should enable to see the hidden files under windows to delete that folder.) HOW: (View - Options - Folder Options - View - Advanced Settings: Show hidden files, folders and drives)

Use Ccleaner after all this (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner), and install your game again, from scratch. !!!!

You don't need to uninstall Steam.

----------------

Also it would be nice to disable any background programs in your Windows taskbar, and not installing the HD resolution pack as well.

However i don't remember your comp. specs.

No, I haven't done a complete uninstall. Why do you think that would be necessary?

You might have a corrupt game file folder. Also if only running the 32 bit OS you do not want to use the Bethesda HD pack. That is more geared for systems with more than 4 gigs of ram and good dedicated video cards.

Oh, I'm not running the texture packs - couldn't get those to work without causing major texture problems/crashes.

Well, I installed them, but they're not activated. And at any rate I saw the Solstheim texture problems before I went to install the hi-res texture packs.

Corrupt game folder? Huh, never heard of such a thing! Would that affect me if I'm running Mod Organizer?

Corrupt game main files folder. Also maybe MO is not installed or running correctly. I heard that mod manager can be a bit tricky to get running correctly but as soon it is it is a good mod manager.

I do not use Mod Organizer but what I do know is that installs mods into virtual folders in which case it gives the MO the power to create profiles for different mods.

You could start with verifying your game cache files.
