Insanity. Those poor people :-(. Not just an airport either, apparently a subway was bombed as well. No word on the casualties from the subway, but so far for the airport 13 dead, 35 injured confirmed. My thoughts and prayers go out to those people, and if anyone on these forums are there, I hope you're ok and none of your family was involved :-(.

yeah, worlds not in great shape, and not just overseas.. heck, the 2014 parliament hill shootings in Ottawa are still in recent memory..

my prayers go out to all those affected by this most recent attacks..

in all honesty, I am expecting something really big is on the horizon, CBC is currently speculating that this attack is directly related to the Paris attacks from not that long ago.. hopefully World War III doesn't come out of it, but considering so many nations are taking anti-terrorism stances and the fact so many recent incidents are believed to share some connection, i wouldn't say such an outcome would shock me..

Agreed! The hate these days is quite powerful and it is so anti-sympathy gathering...

My thoughts and prayers go out to these poor people who did nothing to deserve this.

Angry is just the tip of the iceberg for me...

This is very sad. My biggest fear is that this may inflame tensions over immigration and play into the hands of demagogues.

Hate the hate...that makes it all better :P

Seriously though it's sad that people target innocents when it's the government and people in charge that they're really upset with. We peasants have no power and just want to life our lives.

I couldn't believe the news this morning! Belgium is a wonderful country and my heart goes out to all the Belgium people! Being from Germany, we have always openly welcomed refugees from all over the world. Isis is taking advantage of this and who knows how many are already on European soil, just waiting to strike at us!

I am so very angry as well! My sister did art exhibits in Belgium and she has many friends over there.

And that is why they are called TERRORists. They have always targeted the innocents to incite terror among the nations. I don't even know what exactly they are "fighting for". Why can't they just stay in their stupid holes in the ground and leave us alone? Right now, it looks like they are ASKING for a huge freakin' Megaton bomb to be dropped on their sorry behinds!

I fear any government over the terrorists they fund and arm because they use these events to imprison or kill even more innocent civilians.

Because it's never the fault of leaving wide open borders to allow in "refugees" which happen to mostly be men ages 18 to 35.

I'm sick of the apologists who come out of the woodwork every time one of these happens "Oh a bunch of innocents were killed? What scares me the most is the theoretical situation which may or may not happen of an innocent immigrant getting beat up by a racist white man because of this! Never mind the people who were just killed! We need to worry about these theoretical situations!"

I wonder what religion of peace these people belong to as well. Must be the Amish, or maybe the Jehovah's witnesses. I'm sure this is just a workplace violence incident, don't worry. There's probably 0 chance they were immigrants to the country. Belgium hasn't had no-go zones for the last 10 years, those don't exist they're just a product of the evil right wing fox news probably.

that is odd how that's a typical response now. "the real tragedy will be the backlash!!!"
almost as bad as those that state "we deserve this in one way or another until we make amends"

Their holes are often the suburbs of Paris or Brussels where they were born and grew up. It's tempting to think "let's just raze them to the ground!", but it isn't a solution to the partially homegrown problem we're facing.

Totally agree. The scariest part of things like this is that it strengthens the positions of people on the extremes...people that would make these situations worse in the name of making people "safer."

Well, there are apologists, and then there are those that see things like this as a symptom of a bigger problem. Closing borders is only reacting to a symptom. It doesn't solve the problem. What's the point in having freedom when the whole world is in a police state? I could lock myself in my house and be "safe," but then what the point of living?

People don′t want to hear the truth. They don′t want to know that things are as bad or worse as they seem. And things like this and Paris won′t stop happening until people start to acknowledge the truth and stop playing the three monkeys who cover their eyes, ears and mouths.

Why can't we stop calling terrorsist terrorists, and instead call them idiots?

Agreed. It would be akin to another Boston Bombing here for those that live in or near Belgium, notwithstanding the recent bombing in Paris.

Governments have certainly been known to fund various terrorist elements, but I don't know that is the correct venue to discuss it, regarding the recent bombing in Brussels.

Well, there's protecting one's self, and then there's backing down and giving away control.

The purpose of terrorism isn't to kill people (although that's oftentimes the means to the end.) It's to frighten people into reacting in certain ways. Killing 20 civilians here and there isn't the endgame. If we react to attacks the way they predict we will, we're more than likely giving them exactly what they want. The more we hole-up, the more breathing room we give them to make progress toward their actual goals.

Anyway, I don't want to get political. Suffice it to say that I don't agree that reacting to attacks the way they expect us to is going to make anything better in the long-term. The leaders that are inciting people into making these attacks are jerks, yes, but they're not stupid. They're paying attention to the effects they're having on global politics, and their moves are calculated.

We can hole up and maybe be a bit safer (although it's pretty much impossible to truly close borders), but the message that sends to terrorists is, "your attacks are working." That doesn't make us safer. It invites more attacks. That's not even factoring in the expense and economic effects of slowing passage across borders.

Not at the expense of our civil liberties. We would lose our identity, and they will have already won at that point.

It think the biggest concern is that this isn't causing terror amongst the populace of Europe, America and Australasia. Instead It is causing hate and mitrust against Muslims. So the real thing to worry about is when you consider the last time a group in Europe was so very much distrusted and hated. I'm not sure the Jews fared too well when that happened, so what the Islamist terrorists are hoping to get out doing this is beyond me. It can surely only cause more damage and harm to their own people.
