Do TES Dragons seem less Epic than other Dragons?

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2011 12:25 pm

Dont get me wrong any game where I can literally fight a Dragon or Dragonoid or Dragons Second Cousin the Wyvern is a game well made as long as the Dragon dont freak out in Real-Time in some kind of computing glitch. But Epic is still epic in comparison to what people forsee as the Ultimate Dragon Encounter.

From what I've seen it looks like Im going into the fray with a Bow and Arrow against a bunch of Wyverns, which dont get me wrong is fine, but I wanted to see something that was Four Legs, 2 Wings, and were about x2 - x3 larger than the Dragons we've been seeing, but I'll adapt, I just wanted to see what the rest of you honestly think about them in Skyrim?

I think in general Dragons aren't that epic, but I hope Skyrim can be out of the norm and make their dragons amazing.

I have yet to see a better looking dragon in a video game.

Well scratch that, the legend of dragoon dragons were better, skyrim's dragons are still good too though. Edit:

Eh I can't remember what old game it was, but anyways, sure skyrims arent the best, but their far from the worst. They aren't the typical dragons in games that simply kick at the player character and sometimes breath fire and hover is the point I was trying to make.

I like how the Dragons have a voice. It was a nice shift from others idea of a dragon.

They're the most amazing animals I've seen in any game, honestly. Of course they don't have front legs so that somehow ruins immershun for a lot of people on the forums

Dragons always had voice back in old D&D stuff, etc.

A dragon itself, is epic (as in mythical). Now dragons in skyrim look gorgeous from what I've seen so far, I haven't yet seen a game use dragons as a 'mob' like skyrim. Dragons are generally used as bosses or in cutscenes. To me, all dragons are gonna be somewhat epic and 'mini-boss-ish', but not in a sense as epic as an actual boss dragon with a personality of his own like Alduin for example.

Dragons are over used imo. But nothing really compares to them. And well...these are not wyverns in the slightest. They are Dragons. Wyverns are typically smaller, dumber and are poisonous. If we go back far enough sure they once were the same thing but not anymore. So wyvern? Nope. Still just my opinion though.

I think you have a rather narrow view on what a dragon is... there a bunch of regional dragon types in real life lore alone without even touching on the fantasy variants.
I actually find the Wyvern model archetype the most realistic and believable, and the size ingame looks to be about what I'd have chosen to boot.

In general, dragons are pretty gay, not that there is anything wrong with that...

I mean, seriously...

Dragons?

What is even more homoerotic is the jousters that want to ride dragons.

as much as I love Monster hunter I still like Skyrim's dragons more as they act like actual organisms you know, while the dragon's moves in MH seem stitched together. Course If I got to fight a giant sky octopus in skyrim that would be freakin awesome

Skyrim dragons are more grounded in reality. As "what if they existed in real life?" Their arms would be wings like bats.

There is actually three games out there that are pretty decent as Dragonslayer, Dragon Player, and Dragon based games:
1) is Dragon Age: Origins
2) Drakken a really old game from the early 2000 generation of pixel games.
3) Divinity Series.

There are others but those are the most notable, unless you were hardcoe in the NWN series.

Not really, it's just a design choice. The dragons in TES already admit that they don't even really fly with those wings, so much as with magic.

Us D&D People look at the Dragon and we go, hey thats a Bronze or Brass Dragon, those Frills are normally always seen on Metallic Dragons (Color Generation) and are generally more dosile. Speaking of which, do you think there should be friendly dragons and not just Hostile ones in Skyrim?

I'm sooooooooooo excited about dragons. They look better than any enemy I've ever faced in any game I've ever played.

Todd did vaguely mention that not all dragons are "against you". And there is a dragon shout that summons a dragon companion.

Not so much epic then scary, I see something like that barreling down at me at 50 - 70 mph in the air, my first reaction is to run.

Epic, maybe, but sweet more than likely, now you make it x3 bigger, give those wings some applied force when it zooms by you, apply an extra texture coating to the exterior of the scales for illuminosity enhancement, and make that flame breath just one step better looking, and then I see Epic.

Yup, we supposedly summon this dragon by name, which implies to me they could have some role in the main quest.

The only games with dragons that actually move/fly in real time is dragon age, and soon Skyrim. Other then that I've only seen them in mmo's and final fantasy. I hear Demon's Souls has good ones but havent played.

To me, the dragons in Skyrim look incredible, and being unscripted makes them feel very real and not some dragon that uses these attacks at this health ammount and what not like I have seen before.
