It could work on the PSP... Maybe not on the DS (lack of control stick.)

I'd like to see maybe Daggerfall or something released for PSP.

I think it be perfect for the DS. The DS has the touch screen which can be used in inventory management and things. The PSP, although yes it does have a control stick, the computers don't really, either. You could use a button to switch between run and walk. It could go either way, really. The DS seems suited for the game, but the PSP has the right aspect ratio (I believe). The final choice comes down to the user.

TES would work perfectly on the DS. The touch screen could be used for inventory, stats, and for combat. The PSP wouldn't work so well because there wouldn't be an easy way of looking around.

Well. I guess the controls could be like this.

PSP-
Walking-Control stick
Attacking- R
Blocking-L
Looking up-Triangle(works for battle front)
Looking down- X
Looking left- Square
Looking right- O
Menu- Select(control in menues would be like XBOX Morrowind)
Pause- Start
Cycle magic- Up/Down
Cycle weapons- Left/Right
Jump- L+X
Ready weapon- L+Square
Ready magic- L+Triangle
Rest- L+O
DS-(Walking and looking around would be the same, but with the Dpad as moving instead of the control stick)
Attacking-R
Blocking-L
Menu-Select (would pause game, navigation would use the stylus)
Pause-Start
Cycle magic/weapons- touchscreen (while ingame)
Rest-Not sure... menu option?

I like those controls. The PSP would get hard to used to, though, wouldn't it?

HMm, no, for ds, use the touch screen to look around, dpad to move. then the buttons would be used the same as psp (letters instead of shapes) but without l.

I've been dreaming of a hand held version of TES for as long as I've had my PSP.

I think the series could work equally well on both systems, although it would most likely not be the same game.

My question is would it be better to start from scratch and do entirely new stories, or port existing games to either platform?

I'd like to see a Morrowind like game on the PSP.....it might be possible to pull off.

With the screen being so small, you wouldn't need to crank the resolution on the graphics/skins/textures all that high. This could save some space, plus UMD's have 1.8GB of data storage, and Morrowind came on a single (admittedly compressed) CD-ROM.

You could even import plug-ins via the PSP's download function onto the memory stick.

Down sides, the system would be accessing the disc non-stop, so you'd be lucky if you got 3 hours out of a single battery charge. And as the PSP's main processor isn't as fast as Morrowind's minimum system specs call for, there would be some wicked load times.

Well actually Bethesda could do what most other game makers have down to put their games onto psp/ds. Tone done the graphics. Look at Battlefront 2 for example. So it might work.

i think they should make a game for the psp that is based on summerset isle (were the high elves come from right?) kinda like morrowind and the controls should kinda like this

triangle = magic
square= action
X=use item/wepon
circle=ready wepon
rbutton=straferight
lbutton=strafleft
control pad= move
controlnub=aimupordown.
maybe hard to get used to but eventually u can get the han gof it

i dont know how that would work though
if it was based in sumerset isle wat would be the storyline?

[Spell1] [Spell2] [Spell3] [Spell4] [Spell5] [Spell6] [Spell7] [Spell8]
[Item1] [Item2] [Item3] [Item4] [Item5] [Item6] [Item7] [Item8]

If you put those buttons on the top of the DS Touchscreen, your options are endless, as that is only the top 1/4 inch of the screen. Let's not forget your game options, quickslot setup, Inventory, Health, Magicka, Stamina, Stats (I would love to just be able to look down and see that I'm protected against Cold by 25%, Fire 40%, etc.,), Sneak, Rest, Current Spells In Effect, Draw Weapon, Ready Casting, Defend (if shield equipped), Duck, Jump... get the point?

I'm not going to sit here and say it would be better on the DS, but the developer's would have a plethora of potential for usability as opposed to the PSP. Yes, it is superior to the DS in graphics (which made this last game so loved) and it has a larger screen (with its 'no touch' policy in tact), but the potential for hard-core playability is limited to their too few buttons (seriously, sit back and think about what you would do with your character... Thieves with their sneak and pick-lock; Mages with their Potions (most likely they will all fill the 'Item' slots shown above), Scrolls and Spells; Warriors with their Clicky Effects (a.k.a. 'Item' slot shown above), Weapon #1--seriously, they all carry at least one weapon of every type (magick, piercing, blunt, etc.,) and Shield (a.k.a. Defend option for quick shield draw for deflecting arrows, decreasing spell damage, etc.,)... Get the picture?

In my opinion the DS houses one of the most RPG ready features of any console to date (that doesn't have a compatible keyboard). I think this system has the most advanced RPG potential and I pray every day that Nintendo (and other gaming companies alike) USE it. The potential is nearly endless... and I feel that TES would be a wonderful addition to the system.

I do not harp on the PSP (I sold mine after I had it a month; loading times pushed me away, as did the battery life) as I have owned it... but that was in the past. I base this post solely on my opinion, and hold no potential from the PSP, but I do press the issue that it IS limited... as where the DS is not except in hardware for graphic prowess and larger screens. I also do no know how much a PSP disc can hold, or the NDS cartridge for that matter, but I'm sure the PSP has it's win in that area too. If the NDS is limited too much in that aspect, expect to see any TES game on the PSP only... if this is not a limit... I can't wait to own it on my NDS!

So you rather have a polygon walking around in the form of an TES game on the DS ah right...

The PSP is clearly a better format due to its vast abilities, better controls, larger screen, far superior graphics and more power.

Overall the PSP is the best platform of choice it makes sense, I mean you *could* make a DS version but you can already seen comparisons between DS and PSP versions of the same game...

We should honor Falco's request and not turn this into a flaming discussion.

I'm not going to argue that the PSP will surpass visual capabilities of the DS, but the usability of the PSP is very limited; I just don't see the system capable of handling the vast menu's (unless you pause it for this menu for every action you do). I am sure they can get a lot of actions on there for most users to be slightly happy... but the limitation is too much imho.

not completely true, the DS has the better controls and a superior battery life. the PSP, however, could hold a much larger game. so really it's all about a person's preferences.

Here's a thought. For PSP, Bethesda could make a smaller Elderscrolls, put it on a umd, and make it so that when you put it in the PSP, it gives you the option to either play it from the disk or download to your PSP and takes up like... oh, maybe 500mb-800m. It might be a lot of space, but it would sure cut down the load time. Wouldn't be neccesary for DS though, on account of the cartriges, not disks.
