TES forum burnout

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 2:03 am

Make sure you all keep things civil, it's fine to disagree, but don't get personal with comments.

I have no expectation on any company to deliver anything, unless they specifically announce they are working on something. Logic would dictate that a company's flagship and profitable IP would be getting another sequel - but Bethesda has never announced anything until they are good and ready. So me? I wait patiently, play other games and will be happy when it comes out. I have no obligation to be here, I like these forums above and beyond the current game de jour.

^ There's one of these in every thread about every highly anticipated games ever. Apologists who have nothing to add to the conversation. They simply wanna shame everyone else for talking about a game they want to come out, while ignoring the fact that, that's the whole point of the forum to begin with.

One Little Nugget of Hope:

I did here that Game Informer's Andy McNamara tweeted this on June 7th:

"Got the cover art in today for the next issue. Giant sequel not at E3, and the art...well, fantasy nuts are gonna crap themselves"

Well I hope it isn't gothic 4 or two world 3 or the mmo.

If you want TESV right now, so bad, then make it yourself.

Buy Spore Galactic Adventures or RPG maker or buy a video game company and make TESV yourself. As long as you don't sell any copies, you won't get sued.

it doesn't mean that they believe Bethesda should be catering to them in any way.

speak for yourself. Bethesda should be catering to the fans, waiting on us like a french maid. seriously, there is no bethesda without people who buy their games. so why not try to keep them sweetened up, and be bending over backwards. I expect contortion!

do I feel entitlement to knowing internal development status? no, not really. but it would be nice. Hell I'd like a live feed to the beth HQ :P.

I am still fine with the no news (even though there are bits and pieces, ie saying that they aren't going to announce at E3 counts as news to me)... I only have about 8 weeks before I start stalking Todd...then I will have to sacrifice a black virgin cockerel...and it just gets messy from there

Dude, seti, this has been all over the forums for the last two weeks. How have you not seen it?

I've seen it, but I'm just summarizing how I feel about it.

Beth has never treated fans poorly, either, though.

If they're going to be releasing dlc again, then I won't get the game until a GOTY edition comes out. I'm still waiting to get the Fallout 3 GOTY, it'll be down to 25 dollars soon on half.com.

There seems to be a sense of entitlement floating around. There is no law that says they have to please the fans, no law that says the can't publish games, no law that says they have to release news of TES5. Bethesda doesn't owe you anything.

If u think about it they owe us the world because us (the fans) have made bethesda the company it is today so in payment to our support i think they should throw us a bone once in ahwhile

Ah, but if it wasn't for Bethesda, there wouldn't be TES. So we actually owe them.

I can't wait to see some news, yet I'm not going anywhere. There's more to this forum for me than waiting for the next TES game, and so there's more reasons for me to be here than a dim hope for TES V.

Pretty much this for me. I'd love to see some news, but it's not the only reason I'm here. I've been here since 03. I'm here to stay, TES:V announcement or not.

Here's your bone. By not announcing the game too early, Bethesda isn't going to be forced to rush with their game. This game, that will last far longer than other games, yet still only cost $60, is going to be a finished, high quality product. The longer Bethesda delays an announcement, the longer Bethesda can work on the game without pressure to release it. The longer Bethesda can work on the game without pressure to release it, the longer Bethesda can focus on making the game large and high quality. The longer Bethesda can focus on making the game large and high quality, the better the game, which is going to be generously larger and more finished than most other games, just like its predecessors. Bethesda already does a lot for fans. If they wanted to, they could turn the series into a linear action game that only has about 7 hours of content in single-player mode and has multi-player instead of actual game content(turning TES series into the average game series on the market today), yet Bethesda spends plenty of time creating and polishing their games so that their fans can actually get their money's worth while purchasing one of their games. Bethesda is a company, but contrary to popular belief, Bethesda owes us nothing. They've given plenty and while they are taking their time to make a great game, people demand that Bethesda rush(announcing a game not yet ready to be announced will result in TES V actually being rushed), as if Bethesda can just snap their fingers and make an Elder Scrolls game. If you want something free from Bethesda, go play one of the first two Elder Scrolls games, which Bethesda has been generous enough to provide for free.

As far as people "losing interest" if they take too long...when has that ever happened and crippled a game? It just sounds like an excuse to complain to me. Fallout 3 came ten years after Fallout 2, and sold better than Oblivion. Fans don't forget their favorite game that easily, and people with short attention spans who wander off without anything to look at are going to be lured back just as easily once some screenshots are waggled at them. The only danger from lost interest is if the game is announced too early, making the company potentially miss the high point of their own generated hype.

I've never heard anyone say "Oh, they took too long to announce it so I don't care anymore." Seriously, who says that?

The point is, if something doesn't get announced when you want it to, just wait it out and play something else you like or anticipate a game that is coming out soon.

That. I honestly don't understand why people get so impatient; I find it unlikely that people ONLY play Elder Scrolls games, that in the time between releases they spend years just sitting on the floor and melting. An announcement will just make any anticipation even worse because you'll have a tangible, existing thing to be waiting for, and it will only pressure the company to hurry production in time to meet an arbitrary release date. Perhaps that's WHY nothing is being announced? It's fairly well known that a number of things in Oblivion (scaling, compass, lack of flying enemies) came about because of complaints in Morrowind, and also fairly well known that a lot of stuff that was planned for Oblivion never made it: better AI, political factions, bigger map. If they're actually using this time to make sure they don't "overfix" complaints from Oblivion and get what they want in there with a more flexible deadline, then I hope they keep their mouths shut.

Bigger map for oblivion? Was It supposed to be bigger? The game world is pretty big already don't you think?

Maybe for a portion of a province, but it was way too small for all of Cyrodiil.

True but its still massive in scale and throw in SI to boot and your set. The game came out 4 years ago and to this day no game on the consoles have matched that worlds scale no denying that.

I'm pretty sure Just Cause 2 is bigger, and there are other open world games with the size that is similar. Morrowind is very close in terms of size, and it has two expansions, as opposed to one.

Ok ill rephrase that and say to this day no game on the console has as big a world as oblivion and the graphics to match as well on the consoles no denying that.

I reckon that when I see the release and give it a read, I'll try very hard to stay away from here. Purely because I get my hopes up to high if I keep reading and re-reading everyones breakdown of the tiniest bit of information. Though, if this turns out to be the case or not is a different matter, one boring evening at home where I can't resist the pull of TES banter is all it will take :P
