TES forum burnout

I'll be here. I'll probably just keep the tab open and watch quietly if enough time passes, but chances are it'll only be a few more weeks before the forums go boom.

With Halo: Reach, StarCraft II, Golden Sun 3 and Fable III coming out this year, I'll have plenty to do. Add that to more Mass Effect 2 DLC to come in the future and the April 2011 release of Gears of War 3 and possibly a new TES novel, I think I'll manage. Hell, I'm still having fun with Morrowind and Oblivion even all these years later.

But, of course, I'd not be adverse to a confirmation of production, some concept art or something of the like. All in all, though, I'd rather have TES V in 2012 than have it released but lacking in 2010 or 2011. An announcement next year at GDC or E3 would be perfect.

If Bethesda waits much longer with TES:V and don't give a tentative date and maybe a few screenshots by the end of the year, the game will start entering Duke Nuk'em Forever territory IMO.

The problem with DNF is that the company scheduled a release date and teased with screenshots for years on end. If they had not prematurely announced the game, no one would have been expecting it and it wouldn't have turned into a 10 year vaporware. Its not the development time that was a problem, its the constant "it will come out next year". If Beth released a date and screenshots now and didn't release the game for another year or two, then it would be getting annoying and Duke Nukem-ish.

I can wait. I have morrowind to pass the time :)

But it is stupidly annoying that there's more Fallout stuff happening than TES right now, which is what made Bethesda.

EDIT: Leydenne has a point. TES getting a new developer would make me cringe...Then cry.

Would you prefer to have Bethesda hand off Elder Scrolls to another developer? The "fallout" stuff going on now is related to New Vegas, which has been developed by Obsidian, with gamesas doing the publishing. My personal hope/expectation is that what is going on at Bethesda is serious TES development for quite a while. At least that would make sense to me. Obviously their marketing department is focusing on the here and now, which is the impending FO: NV release. No sense diluting that, when it looks like it is going to be a pretty popular game.

Same here. I still need to beat most of Tribunal, all of Bloodmoon, and I haven't even really started Oblivion again in a serious manner.

Good Point I haven't beat Morrowind yet . I will let the time melt and see what happens.

I'm staying as long as it takes for them to release TESV and have plenty of patience. However if they told us that they will release the game in 9-?-2011 then that will only mean that many people myself including will yearn more for it but at the same time make the waiting all the more tortious because we know when they will release the game and thats assuming they are on time to release it as planned.

Which is to say that I will prefer that they only released infomation a few months before the release date sparing us most of the apprehension. Besides when they do release infomation and it gets close to releasing the game the site will get alot more unsavory types like a certain subforum and in general cause more chaos. Not to mention all the complaining that will fellow once info is released that TESV is Insert here or that Insert here is better then TESV and so on and so forth and has occurred everytime a new game is released (Daggerfal is better then Morrowind, Morrowind is better then Obilivion). But atleast we will finally get TESV.

I hope they announce it a month before release, like Telltale Games did with Tales of Monkey Island. Having too much information distracts me from all the other great games out there.

eh, ill take a long time of nothing for a good game. If they try and rush it out then we'll get another unfinshed game like oblivion that is missing vitial stufff from it.

Personally, i think resting the series will help it, look at the modding community, some of the long term projects will finish while oblivion is still the latest game, rather then if another had come along and taken modders away from oblivion.

perhaps we should walk into Gamestop looking for a new game and see TES V: (insert title). Then when we try and buy it we find out the game is coming out in another moth

When I think they should make an announcement and when I want them to are two completely different things. I'm heading off to college soon, so it would be nice to hear about it soon. However, Bethesda should take as long as they need to to make it a great game.

A lot of games can still beat Oblivion on the consoles, with graphics, and with comparable freedom.

EDIT: And read my edit on my last post.

But they still can't hold a candle.

Maybe for a portion of a province, but it was way too small for all of Cyrodiil.

True. You shouldn't be able to hike a Province in a day.

Yeah but that makes me glad because they rushed it then but they are keeping it quiet now so we will get a better game but one sad thing what if they aren't working on tes 5.

Why wouldn't they be working on TES V? It would be illogical for them to make FO4 after just making FO3 and Obsidian making FNV, and their only other IP to make is TES. Not to mention TES is their flagship series. I feel it's safe to say that TES V is in the making.

Stop obsessing about TESV. There is no way you are going to "miss" it.

Until I pay hard cash to purchase TESV, Bethesda does not owe me one single solitary thing about it. No news, no bone, nothing.

If and when I DO pay money to purchase TESV, the only thing that will matter is how good of a game it is. The longer they work on it, the more likely it will be a good game.

There is no TESV, until there is. "Teasers" will not make the process happen faster. I for one am glad Bethesda is being conservative.

All I know is this: If July Game Informer comes and goes, without any mention of TESV, I'm going to develop an unreasonable hatred for whatever "BIG FANTASY SEQUEL NOT AT E3" they decide to cover instead.

But yeah, TESV is 2012. That's my estimate. Makes decent sense considering Fallout 3's release in '08.

Why does everyone think that by announcing it(by this I mean name and title, with a few screenshots, not "we are working on it", as we know they are working on it), it would force them to release it early? Is it because they need an appropriate time to market it and the sooner that starts the sooner we see it? Our excitement over screenshots has no bearing on a release date. The companies simply rush the games out if they want/need money. Not because we are rabid for it.

Not that I am in the "whinge because we have no pretty screenies to look at yet" group. I just don't think that them giving us screenshots will make them rush the game.

What is the train of thought with that?

(I am curious, is there something I am not understanding? This is not meant to be an accusatory post. )

The July GI Cover is for Infamous. Nothing TES related. To answer the OP, I'll wait, but I certainly appreciate your frustration. I wish we could get some useful information. Back when Oblivion was being released, one of the dev's or maybe it was Todd, said they would take a break and then begin work on the next title. It's been four years. You'd think they have something put together. What also troubles me, is that since we haven't seen anything to thus point, we are all looking at another year minimum, until it's released. Like other folks have shared, if they put a better product out there that goes back towards DF and doesn't continue down the water downed path of Oblivion, it will worth the wait.

We're waiting for the August cover, which will be unveiled early July.

2012, actually. All the pant-soiling that the awesomeness of the cover will bring about causes the end of the world.
