TES v's graphics?

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 10:14 pm

Takes a deep breath, DAGERFALL AND MORROWIND WERE GOOD GAMES WITH GOOD GRAPHIC FOR IT'S TIME, OBLIVION GRAPHICS WERE MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN MORROWIND AND DAGERFALL COMBINED AND MULTIPLIED
BY 2.... STOP IT....

We can't give our own opinion? You're telling him to stop praising Morrowind's style?

No i don't but seems more people are just telling nonsense i mean just because morrowind was better then oblivion doesn't mean that morrowind had flaws too, i mean look at the graphics Oblivion has far more better graphics than morrowind......

Yes, in quality it did, but he was talking the concept and art of the graphics.

Of course, but Oblivion was released four years after Morrowind.

Also, graphics and art style are not the same thing! How hard is it to understand that?

im not expecting much. it will be designed for console first and crappily ported over to pc like oblivion was. it will then be a while for basic mods to show up and fix the glaring flaws and a year or two before the modding community reaches maturity. i wouldnt count on the AI because the stupid console developers will once again underestimate memory on their consoles and that will reduce the textures and the amount of stuff that runs in the background....AI etc. this will of course carry on over to the pc version just like oblivion. :(

just like oblivion i might play it once and then let it sit around while i wait for mods to fix the big issues.

If I had my way, TESV would have the artistic style of Morrowind, the flair of Daggerfall, and the detail of Oblivion.

I think the style should be more MW, but graphics more OB.

I think it's less of a question of graphics, we can be sure they'll be better. For me it's a question of art direction. If you try to think of it in terms as photorealistic vs. artistic, then I would much prefer artistic.

im for realistic. WoW is artistic and looks like it was designed by 12 year old girls with crayons. and dont get me started on the armor........ech. it would be nice if bethesda just used modified versions of duna or crysis engines instead of trying to make their own and then spend those resources on gameplay and balancing.

You are generalizing. Morrowind went for artistic and look how great it looks.

Morrowind was grim and dirty, i liked it. Vvanderfell looked like i always imagined it to. Oblivion did that quite well, although there is a nice pack of mods called http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16513 this is the style and detail i would love to see in TES:V

As for the engine, i have to say the blurr effect on the edge of view distance is wonderfull. Gothic 3 looked great, infact it looked amazing, i would have loved to see there distance rendering done in Oblivion, Two Worlds had the same blur effect but there was pop-in. Gothic 3's pop-in, i rarely noticed at all.

There is a good chance there going to use the Gamebryo engine again. Which on a bright note after version 2.6 fully supports dx10. With that said even Square Enix is putting there eggs in the GB engine. Its here to stay, unless the boys do some craziness inhouse.

As a note, ZeniMax did aquire iD software, *evil grin* so we could see something that could blow our mind. Though i would be quite ticked off if they switched engines and ddint use an editor as simple as the TES:CS. the CS is the greatesting editor ive ever used to create content with, and i would be lost and generally put off to see it go. it felt like torture not having it when F3 rolled out.

I for one will pee myself with glee if Bethesda uses the Cryengine in TESV. I don't care if they make the game into a Runescape Clone with a TES setting, I will buy it no matter what just to see TES in the Cryengine.

Wow..

Yes please!

That video is simply amazing. In a perfect world that is what I would hope TESV would look like. Honestly, though, I wouldn't mind Oblivion's graphics in TESV if the buggy parts were fixed and it had killer content.

We know for a fact they're using Gamebryo again. Period.

actually it looked waaaay better with qarls and khalaazas sp? texture packs and those were photorealistic. same with oblivion. crysis and dunia are photorealistic and they are amazing looking. to bad they didnt release and editor for dunia cause mods could have turned farcry 2 into an amazing game.

now if you refer to just the meshes i would agree. morrowind was awesome because it was unique.....outside of super mario i cant think of another game that used giant mushrooms. :) but for textures realistic is the way to go.

DirectX10, but not a HUUGE enhancement, more focused on content.

Yes. I was talking more looks and style than graphics. So I guess we're in agreement. :)

All I'm hoping for is improved water (waves!), dynamic shadows on buildings, characters, tress, everything. Better animations and realistic textures.

I also hope they turn down the hdr and bloom.

edit: and or course to offer my support to the people above, style is important.

Dunia is far from being photorealistic, and can only compare with Cryengine 2 because of its dynamic fire effects and the fact that it can cover the same amount of space in the same way as Crysis. (eg, little to no loading screens). Compared to Crysis, Dunia couldn't do jack.

Why does there seem to be this common thought of if you have nice graphics content has suffered in some way? Bethesda pays people to program...and they pay separate people to do content...

I'd rather they focus upon animations. I've played games with less than stellar graphics, but the animation was so fluid that I was so fully into the game that I could not care less how it looked. Fluid animation is what makes Half Life 2 still look so amazing (apart from the fact that it also has amazing graphics).

Half Life 2 has flaws as well. One thing I hate about the Source engine, is the lack of dynamic lighting, I think that's what it's called... you know, how fire lights up the environment?

One thing I want to see in TES5 is the ability to see the rest of your body as you move the camera down. It just makes it more immersive, like in Thief: Deadly Shadows and Dark Messiah.

The way the CryEngine loads assets on the fly and the terrain handling and foliage is what The Elder Scrolls needs. Oblivion still looks amazing but of all NexGen games it has quite a bit more pop-in then most. Crysis had no pop-in that i remember since i played it and it was massive.

FarCry 2 was a jungle madhouse and the way they designed there travling areas made pop-in compkltelty unobtrusive, only noticable if you were flying and really looking. I use FC2 as a sample since theres a mix of open spaces and jungle.

All in all it doesnt matter in the slightest what it looks like i will buy the collectors once it comes out, like i did with Oblivion and Fallout3 :o)

Hmm, i wonder if Next Installment would sell as good as Oblivion did, had it some "outdated" graffics?
I guess nowdays it is necessary to have the latest graffics and all that in order to sell well :(

I would really rather see some worst graffics, but exellent, rich gameplay.
I still find Morrowind very attractive.
