TES VI: Hammerfell

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 1:47 pm

My friend and I have been speculating this for a while, and Idunno, it seems plausible!

I mean, what provinces are left? Elsweyr is a huge desert filled with scorching, barren badlands, Black Marsh (judging by the Argonian Account) is a disease-ridden swamp, Summerset Isle is all mystical and fancy and snooty, it wouldn't really give that adventure feel. And besides, who actually likes those damn uppity High Elves? >:l Moving on, I don't really know enough about High Rock to get excited for that, but it just sounds boring, so that just leaves Valenwood and Hammerfell. Valenwood WOULD be pretty cool, all lush and tropical and whatnot, but Hammerfell just screams adventure to me. The mental images I get are sparsely populated trade cities, taverns filled with seasoned sailors with many a tale to tell, my character swashbuckling against pirate marauders onboard a ship, etc. <3.<3

Sure, Hammerfell has a fair bit of sand and rock to it, but the lush grassland on the coasts, the architecture, and just the nature of Hammerfell, is enough to make up for all that sand. (:

I dunno, Bethesda always has little hints in their games as to where the next one might be, and I think I've caught some (several people talking about coming to Skyrim from Hammerfell, the Hammerfell Garb I've been rocking for a while now, etc.)!

This is pure speculation, so of course feel free to disagree and tell me where YOU think/would like Elder Scrolls VI to be!.. But I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one craving a pirate adventure. (;

Yeah, i too hope for Elsweyr. But shouldn't this be in the Elder Scrolls series-section?

Ah, maybe it should. D: Is there any way to move it, or should I just copy and paste it over there?

I get the feeling the next game will likely be set in Hammerfell or Valenwood, to give you a more 'direct' view of the Thalmor-Imperial War and its aftermath and consequences. But I agree with you that Hammerfell would be more likely, and probably more interesting because you can hear the Redguard's take on the Empire 'abandoning' them, as well as perhaps intriguing on the side of the Empire or Thalmor to get the now independent Hammerfell to align either way (hope to God they do it better than in Skyrim though...)

Didn't Daggerfall take place in (part of) Hammerfell? I'm pretty sure they'll move to somewhere they haven't been to yet.

Personally, I'd like to see Elsweyr or the Black Marsh.

Elsweyr would be boring, long stretch of desert. Nothing to look at. Black Marsh doesn't seem very habitable. Well, less so than Skyrim.

Hammerfell would be pretty cool, but I'm not sure if I want to play a middle-eastern type game. Would remind me too much of Aladdin or something. Valenwood would be better but I think that just being in one big forest would get old quick.

There's more out there than Tamriel....

I'd say Valenwood or Elsweyr are the most likely, but who knows?

TES1: Everything
TES2: High Rock, part of Hammerfell
Redguard: Hammerfell
TES3: Morrowind
TES4: Cyrodil
TES5: Skyrim

The most neglected territories are Black Marsh, Valenwood, Elsweyr, and Summerset.

Yep! That's another factor I forgot to mention, and really it just feels like a huge, glaring hint to me (referring to Hammerfell's being abandoned :P)

Elsweyr has deserts and jungles as well. Valenwood if you read a dance in the fire is a rather hostile environment that like black marsh sounds too terrible to make a game in.

High Rock was already the location of an elder scrolls game. Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall.

Hammerfell is a desert wasteland with cities skirting the edges of it and nothing really in the middle from what I understand. At least Elsweyr has jungles as well. So who knows where they will go. They just might go against their own lore to make another region viable lol!

I have been wanting Hammerfell since Morrowind, well after Morrowind 2 of course, but you get the point. If the next TES game takes place in Hammerfell I will be overjoyed.

I'm feeling it.

The sort of north African feel of the "garb" got me intrigued.

Plus, as far as art direction goes, it would be a total departure from Skyrim while still being a relatable game world.

Beyond there having been a comment that they'd like to revisit High Rock, I've noticed something that could point to a return there. Orsinium is in High Rock. The ancestral home of the Orsimer, that apparantly got taken away from them. Now the treaty that the Orcs forged with Numidium to join the Empire pretty much binds the two together forever. I think the Empire may HAVE to get them their city back.

Wrothgarian Mountains, anyone?

Extra bonus - High Rock has a huge variety of terrain, and borders Hammerfell anyway. And at least it used to be bloody infested with vampires and lycanthropes. I want to run screaming from a wereboar again!

I don't think that the 'We went to (part) of Hammerfell in Daggerfall' argument holds much water.

Daggerfall is a very old game, and I'd say the majority - even vast majority of TES players haven't played Daggerfall, including myself. I just don't see that as a good reason not to go back there, especially with all that we've heard is going on down in Hammerfall. Think of all the sea-oriented stuff, Stros'Mkai, some deserts, some grasslands/jungles. I really think that it comes to Hammerfall or Valenwood.

As seen in the Oblivion elsweyr mod, it probably looks like India so I don't think it would just be arid badlands and desert. I want Black Marsh, what kind of RPG takes place in a swamp? It would be unique and one of a kind. I imagine quicksand in the swamps and gigantic ooze monsters coming out of the ground. I also imagine the pale skinned Kothringi humans. There could be rainforests as well as swamps and the architecture is probably weirder than Morrowind.

Daggerfall was in High Rock and Hammerfell i believe, although i think every province should have its own game. Including both High Rock and Hammerfell.

I'm hoping for Elsweyr, but that would mean the devs would have to deal with the whole dozen different species of Khajiit problem. So that probably won't happen. And Elsweyr is not a schorching hot badland, its less of a desert than Hammerfell. Elsweyr has tropical jungles which cover almost half of the province.

Just a quick interjection from all your (awesome) comments and suggestions, peeps:

From what I read somewhere, Daggerfall's terrain was randomly generated for a lot of it, was it not? Correct me if I'm wrong please, I've just seen a couple of forum-goers so far say that. (:

To an above poster: yeah, the art direction for the Hammerfell Garb is crazy awesome :D

Actually, the desert, the Ali'kr, only occupies the westernmost tip of the province. A lot of the rest is mountains and badlands, savannas and oasis, with the south most and east most looking like Cyrodiil's Gold Coast / Imperial Reserve. Hammerfell is about as varied in landscape as Skyrim is, if not even more.

Next game will be a reboot of the TES universe. So it could be anywhere.
