TES V Ideas and Suggestions # 174

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:19 am

They all more or less are related in some way to prison. Morrowind, you are released from prison (I think) and are put on a boat.

All? Morrowind and Oblivion dont constitute all the TES's, there are two more main ones and i think there are 2 or 3 other ones besides the main 1-4.

Unique landscapes, scrap the Oblivion/Fallout 3 fast travel if you have to a lot of people would be happier without it, I myself don't really care bout the Oblivion/Fallout 3 fast travel system

Yea I think that would be best.. And bring the Stilt Strider , boat, and the mages guild teleport back .

I didnt like the level scaling to much either. Because you could never really have the EDGE on anyone unless you MAXed each of your levels but I think that I took too long . And as someone else said I like Morrowind style Factions . Before you could advance in Rank you had to have a certain set of skill and at a certain level .

Yea that sounds good . Like have ongoing problems. You may clear a cave out and get paid for it then a few weeks down the road you may be asked to go back and clean it out again or get to chose a lower rank NPC to do it .. But you wouldnt wanna send just anyone , maybe they have experience in doing certain things. Like Alistar is good at close quarters and Meka is a bow and arrow guy.
You could see there stats and have them go with you and equip they with special gear if needed or just send them by thier self and hope they are skilled enough make it and then YOU pay them.

I would like the map to be of the whole province. Perhaps include a small, up close map for detailed activity.

Such as, have the base map be like Morrowind's, but the small map be like Oblivion's base map.

Most of them... But it is still, more or less, considered a tradition.

Anyways, what if there was an option to have TES V acquire data from your Oblivion save file? Perhaps it would find your character(s) and register them in the character creation menu as a preset. Say you have an Imperial, Argonian, and Orc character. When creating your character, instead of reconfiguring all these settings to re-create your character, you can just select your old character off the preset menu. Maybe if you choose a preset, a chest will appear in a remote location and it will contain all the things s/he had in Oblivion.
"Oh, hey, my 10000 gold I had obtained from Oblivion in my free-time didn't go to waste after all!"

Also, the whole "Only you can save us" theme is getting kinda tiring (for me, anyways). Why not change it to "Only you two can save us," instead? You could have a second optional slot where you can create another character to help you on your journey.

Times said "Character": 8 :blush2:

Arena-prison(Imperial Dungeons)
Daggerfall-shipwreck
Morrowind-prisoner ship
Oblivion-prison(Imperial Dungeons)

The tradition seems to be either prison, a ship, or a combination of the two. Tutorial dungeons are also common. Morrowind was the only one of these four games that didn't have such a dungeon.

I’m pretty sure I heard Todd Howard say in an interview before the release of Oblivion that all TES games start the player in prison. I think that this is where people got the idea that all TES games start in prison.

I didn’t play Daggerfall or Arena or much of Morrowind either before Oblivion, so I believed this too. It was probably just a slip of the tongue, and he only meant that the last game started in prison, but it seems to have been fixed into people’s minds now.

EDIT: Sorry to reitterate the same points as in the two posts above, but they posted while I was writing mine.

Like you would have help from the hero on Morrowind . (The Neveiane) IDK how to spell it . But you get to create him or her to help along your side sometimes. And he or she would have Advanced Skills.

It doesn't even need to be someone you see often. It could just be some stalker prophet that shows up when you need it to help you with a problem. "Oh, no! The cave collapsed, and now I'm trapped in for all eternity!"
"Fear not, for I shall bust these rocks to dust!"
*Person casts ultimate spell and destroys rocks, then disappears into the night*
"Uh oh, an avalanche, I'll be covered in snow within 15 seconds, and my only escape would be to jump this 40-foot long crevice!"
*Grappling hook flies out from nowhere*
*You cross the gap*
*You get hit in the back of the head with a rock with a note attached that reads "You're welcome"*

Oh, and, another idea. How about the ability to engrave your rings/armor/weapons with magic runes. It would serve as both an enchantment for those who aren't in the Mage's Guild, and it would look cool, too. It would just be another way to enchant your items, but you don't have to travel all Cyrodiil or close Oblivion gates.

TES3 did it right. Nobody wants to go through a tutorial dungeon in a game which has this much replay value. It gets boring after the second time.
There should be a gigantic character creation, as in TES2, but maybe done in similiar fashion to TES3. My suggestion post described what should be IN the character creation, but not HOW it's implemented. I'm not happy about the stuff that TES3 cut out instead of expanding, and the fact that TES4 went even further.
Still, it would be awesome to just have these character sheets to fill, with LOTS of choices. PnP rpgers would feel right at home.

I personally think that the player start should be based on your specialization, no matter wich character you choose.

You know instead of posting 3 posts in a row you could just use the edit button... its a lot neater than multiple posts and it allows threads to go on longer with the 200 post limit. anyway i'd like it if not everyone you encounter is a bad guy, in Oblivion walking down the road if i see someone i just blast away because theres no chance they will be friendly, at least in morrowind there were encounters along the road like people you could help out like the lady in love and the one that dropped her ring, and you dont know if its someone come to kill you like the second one, or if its a genuine friendly quest like the first one. also not every fight should be to the death, if a bandit trys to rob me and i beat the crap out of him he wont fight to the death he'll run away or surrender unless he is really desperate or stupid.

It might already be being made. Check out http://www.quakecon.org/gallery/livefeed.shtml tomorrow morning for the live feed from Todd Howard's presentation at QC. If it is going to be announced at Quake Con this is where it will be.

And Drakewoodall, this page is for suggestions to be made for the game. I think your post belongs in the Speculation thread and so does mine.

New skill/ability: Deception

Deception is essentially, sneaking in the light rather than the dark. With Deception your player can don a suit of armor and fool the guards into thinking he's one of them, or some ragged clothes to blend in with the beggars. Based on your sneak level (or Deception level if it's a new skill), your proximity to enemies (the people you're trying to deceive), and other factors (like interacting with the enemies, taking items, or sticking around an area for too long) will increase suspicion. Deception will allow you to get around guards and locked doors without needing to stick to the shadows, but will require a little wardrobe change.

Also along with physical deception (knock out or kill a certain person or simply buy some clothes that look like whoever you're blending in with), there would be magical alternatives. I'm thinking of a spell like chameleon, but works on the people in your vicinity. If you walk away from guards to the poor people, you'll turn into a beggar. So you'll have to be very careful with where you use that spell, and with how long it works for.

If done right, Deception could be a great way to add more immersion to the game for stealth-based characters.

I thought of an idea for better melee combat... instead of sitting there smacking your enemy with your sword and him doing the same to you, the game could have you block, which would count as taking "damage". But instead of a health bar, there would be only a fatigue bar that determines if you block or not. If your fatigue bar is low while you are in combat, you might fail to block, and might be hit. Most of the time, hits are fatal or crippling. To heal yourself, you have to drink a health potion, which takes like 10 seconds or something to work. And instead of blocking all the time, you could use the control stick or mouse to maybe parry or counter the attacks, which would cause some sort of cool action that shows your character stabbing the enemy (like altair style :) ) I So instead of running everywhere, youd have to walk otherwise if you got in a battle, you would be to tired to fight...Its hard to explain while typing so thats why it may not make sense... And instead of clicking RT or the mouse button, you hold down the attack button and move the stick/mouse in the way you want to attack. And swordfights wont last forever, because each time you take "damage" (blocking) your fatigue goes down a little. So fatigue would be a health bar, too. And that would make fatigue potions invaluable for adventures.

Yes. Most houses should have large skylights on the ceiling that you should be able to break into! And you can get there with ladders...

On a more serious note, I think it would be cool to have musical instruments that are actually playable. I mean not something like guitarhero or a minigame, just something where you can equip it and choose from songs to play, or maybe even something that functions like the Ocarina from Ocarina of Time. It would really add some depth to the world, especially if you could be a traveling bard, or have bards and entertainers all across the province of the next game.

You could have all kinds of instruments too, lutes, drums, flutes, or anything they wanted to come up with too.

I should be able to make a feasible living this way, too. Not like the rubbish from the entertainers mod for Morrowind. (It's official, I'm allowed to insult it :P)

One thing I've always wanted to do in TES, is be a travelling bard. Travelling from town-to-town, playing my songs, making my money. I would be able to earn myself a shiny penny, make "aquiantences", learn secrets and travel the lands.

While I'm on the topic of making money outside of basic questing, I'd also like the ability to be a travelling salesman. I could buy the native equivalent of the Guar, and travel across the lands buying and selling wares. Hopefully, there will be a more working economy, so I could buy wares somewhere, and sell them for a better price elsewhere. I could come across the occasional other travelling salesman on the roads, who could give me great prices. Also, I could ask any merchants, in towns, or wandering, what they are low on stock of. I could get some of that item, and sell it to them for a higher price. Farms and hunters would be able to give me wares at a cheaper price than merchants.

Also, I'd like to hunt. I want to be able to stalk animals, and slay them with a ingle arrow from a distance. I know I could do so in past games, but it was always pointless. I could never get any pelts or meat that was worth the effort. It took far too long, and cost far too much, if using arrows, to be able to get my money's worth. I want to see better valued animal pelts and meats.

It would be cool if you could bring the pelts to a clothier or taxidermist and make clothes or armor out of them. Maybe you would need furry armor to go into the mountains because it is so cold in Skyrim's high mountain ranges.

That would be pretty awesome, they got kind of close to that with the Battlehorn Castle DLC, with the taxidermist. But if the next game is in Skyrim it would be cool to have the really high mountainous area have a small frost damage effect, and have it reduced if your wearing furry armor.
