TES V Ideas and Suggestions # 175

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:09 am

That would be boring waiting for the fish. Imagine not being able to catch the fish? It would be devastating waiting for 20 mins to have the fish get away with the bait.

Thats called Fishing. lol.

I loved how Twilight Princess did it. You dont even have any bait, just a shiney hook. You put it in the water, and the fish nibble on it. you pull the rod back and hook the fish and reel it in. Piece of piss.

So In TESV I wish I could go to a fishing hole like in TP and earn some money from the fish I catch.

Just sitting the on the wharf, listening to the sweet music and watching the world go by. The sound of the waves washing back and forth, lapping at the beach. A seagull floating on the wind as it looks for sum lunch. the wind picks up and blows my hair to the side, I feel a nibble, so I tugg it a little. I can see through the crystal clear water, i see the little fish nibbling on my hook. i seagull crows to another seagull and they dive into the water. it starts to rain a little adn I can hear the soft pitter patter of rain drops on the wooden deck, my line tuggs again, this time i got a fish hooked so I reel it in as fast as I can, the fish fighting to stay in the water, I pull a little more and the fish pops out of the water and I reel it in, i un hook the fish and drop it in a bucket with the other fish I have caught, the seagulls watching me and watching the fish in my bucket, one walks up to me and caws at me then pecks the bucket, the rain slowly dripping off its beak, so I wave my arm to shoo it away. and it scampers away, its wings too heavy with water to fly, I put another piece of bait on my hook and check to make sure it wont easily come off then I drop it back into the water. the fish scatter at the disturbance but quickly come back to nibble on it again as they smell the fresh bait...

Sounds very relaxing.

I wouldn't mind fishing and other "trade skills", although I'm not sure they'd fit in with the current Alchemy system and the fact that a couple of enchanted item drops from a dungeon will pretty much keep you fed for life.

If you guys want fishing then I have no problem with it. I just think its kind of silly that you would want to spend 20 minutes waiting for a virtual fish that might get away. :P

hunting and fishing i think would be a welcomed addition, at least more of a reason to hunt

remember when RDD came out, all this thread talked about was hunting

i think theres more of a reason to hunt in ES than RDD

I think we should be able to determine whether or not we are right handed or not.
If the same basic layout applies to TES:V; pull the right trigger, swing your weapon, pull the left trigger, raise your shield, why can't we put a shield in the right hand, and a weapon in the left hand? That way, pull the left trigger, swing the weapon, pull the right trigger, raise your shield.
That's pretty damn elementary programming.

yeah, it would be great if left and right trigger simply controlled the arms, and then the buttons could control whatever you put in the hands.

1) Should improve the archery to make it more worthwhile. Have bows cause more damage, but then make them a little more realistic and take longer to load/aim...etc... for balance sake
2) 3rd person camera should be improved to be more like other 3rd person games (red dead redemption, mass effect, etc...)
3) Zoom-in face conversations should end (if the size of objects was the same as the size of the camera, then you would still see face detail (in IV, a tree that appears to be 2 feet across in 1st person could be 5 feet across in 3rd person)
4) Add more dialogue options for the MC...and choices in conversations/missions.
5) More voices, more dialogue in general.
6) More dynamic events
7) Make random world enemies not all hostile, and maybe give them some more interesting AI (Im thinking Red Dead Redemption animals here, which I think are revolutionary in their realistic approach to the MC). I liked the idea of the goblin armies that followed the totem staffs--that got cut...

who says you need to fish for 20 minuntes?

Actually, what's wrong with 20 minutes of fishing? If it's implemented correctly, it can be quite good. Just look at Zelda: OOT. Years old, yet that managed to get fishing just fine. I'd love a system similar to that, if not expanded upon.

Hunting simply needs to have better pricing, and more advanced AI. I should be able to hide behind a tree or a rock. Coming from downwind would be a nice addition, too (of course, with an indicator), but not neccessary. I should be able to predict what an animal is going to do after watching it for a while. I can use timing to make the opportune kill, and the meats/hides I get should be better priced to allow me to make a handsome profit from hunting.

I also want to see the economy in general improved. Of course, by the end of a character, I should have 500k, if not more, but TES has always taken this too far. I never struggle at level 1. I'd love to be able to get a proper job that I could do around adventuring, and have item priced changed as they should. Iron armour should be quite cheap (as it is), but anything over Steel should start to get expensive. (Also, lighter armours would be cheaper than heavier ones). Give cutlery value again. Make it hard to steal without skill. lower the amount of loot I can get from a cave. Do everything possible to let me have to resort to more mudane money gathering methods.

I also want the ability to properly worship a god, be it Daedra, Aedra or some kind of mangod, ala Tribunal. If I devote myself to the cult of Hircine, for example, I could perhaps get a permanent minor creature detection. Great for hunting. If I decide to devote myself to the church of Dibella, I'd get a nice charm spell. These also shouldn't be once a day spells. I should either have a constant effect spell (ala Hircine), or an actual spell that's low cost to cast (ala Dibella).

If I want to have these abilities, I would need to go to a shrine / give an offering once a week. I would like it if once per week, I'd have to hunt down a certain rare animal, and show the pelt to Hircine.

Obviously, this is optional. If you don't want to have to do these things once a week, don't worship anyone.

The time frames may be different. Once a week may be realistic, but it passes far too quickly in TES. Perhaps once a month.

1. Money should be harder to get. In oblivion, just if you sell those things from dungeon you get about 500 coins which is too much for a beginner, right?
2. You can fast travel only by boats, carriages et cetera. When you choose to fast travel, you can watch all the scenery if you want. If not, you simply press a key for real fast travelling. Also, these methods will take you to cities only.
3. Better NPC dialogues, acting etc. Acting in oblivion is sometimes just BAD! Also, more dialogue options of course. In oblivion it was so stupid that at the beginning (and in most of the game) of the game, you have like 3 dialogue options, which are mostly questions, and you have to choose all three of them. Also, does our character always have to ask so many questions? Can't he give an opinion on something? Like, we initiate a conversation with an NPC, and he asks us about the weather, lets say. Why can't we give our opinion on the weather too? (just an example).
4. Scripting...early this morning I created a new character. I went to Anvil for my first time, and I initiated a dialogue with Caenlorn, its the little wood elf that has a twin brother. And he asked me if I can guess if he is Caenlorn or Maenlorn, I said Caenlorn (also, if you dont know NPCs names, its kind of rubbish that you can know their names altho its the first time you talk to them), and he said 'Right, you have remembered' although its my first time in Anvil.
5. I want my choices. If I go to Arena, I want to choose if I am going to be in Yellow or in Blue team. Same applies to quests (especially assassin quests), if I don't want to kill the poor old bastard, why should I? Can't I tell him to escape from, in this example, Tamriel, and tell my masters that he is dead? Also, I always imagined assassins as masters of stealth, always with their bows and arrows and daggers. Why do I have to kill my target by dropping the giant head on him (the mission in bruma). I want to sneak in his house, and stab him with my dagger or something.
6. If you kill someone, why do guards have to notice it ALL THE TIME? I remember doing the quest 'Paranoia' and I was sent to kill the girl...forgot her name. I was a low-level at that time, I snook in her house, took my sword out and attacked her, but instead of dieing she woke up and screamed 'GUARDS'. If someone is sleeping, I would love it if I could just stab him or slit his throat with one-shot kill.
7. In TES:IV the combat is mostly just hack-n-slash. Shield is not that useful as most of us would think. If you block an attack with your shield, you will still take damage, but less then you would take otherwise. Bows are too underpowered. Does it really take 10 arrows to kill a guard? No, it would take 1 or 2 arrows. I don't like comparing games and never will like, but just look at the combat system in Assassins Creed 2. You can counter attacks, if you do it correctly, you will be rewarded with a great finishing move. I want that in TES:V, I want to see how would it look like in first person. Back to shields, its kind of dissapointing that arrows can penetrate the thickest and heaviest shield. Also, its kind of stupid that arrows go through my characters head and neck...shouldn't he/she have died? If an arrow hits you in arm/leg/chest you should have a bloodwound and should lose health and have an impact on your movement/visibility/speed etc. Also, if a sword slashes you, youll still loose blood and health. If an arrow hits you in head or neck, you die instantly. Also, decapitations. It would be great if we could behead our enemies or something. Ill be back to beheading, when you are 50% fatigued you will move slower, do less damage and your attacks will be slower. When fatigued 75% you can fall on your knees, giving your enemy a chance to finish you quickly, to behead you or stab you, same applies to you, if enemy is fatigued too much, hell fall on his knees giving you a great opening. Fights don't have to last long if you know how to fight. Lets say, you are in an arena, your enemy uses a bow, you use a shield and a sword. You should think about how to kill him, 2-3 arrows can kill you, you should block his arrows and make a shield wall, while slowly approaching him, when you are close to him, just stab him or whatever you wanna do with him. Also, with a shield, you should be able to hit your enemy with it, with it, you have a chance of fatigueing him greatly, but only if your enemy doesn't pass resistance check.
8. Much more interesting npc characters. When you first talk to a character, you won't know his name, and neither will he know yours. Some characters can be your companions, some can teach you various skills, some will just be your friends, some will be merchants. Let's talk a little about the companions. Again, comparing, sorry, I don't like it either, but that way you can understand what the hell am I talking about. Before I bought Dragon Age Origins, that companion thing about it seemed like stupid to me. But to be honest, its really interesting. The companions were so fun to talk with, becoming friends with them. I just loved it, dialogues are done great, and also being able to romance certain characters is cool. Back to TES. Companions won't be useless as in Oblivion. Off topic here a little: when you create a character, you should have 3 classes: warrior, mage and a rogue. Warrior is an expert in weapon and shield and two handed weapons, so he gains bonuses when using those weapons and he can carry a little bit more than rogues or mages can at the same level of strength. They mostly wear heavy armor and are experienced in it gaining a bonus to armor. Mages mostly wear robes as they shouldn't initiate in close quarters combat, rogues wear light armors, gaining bonus to them. Rogues have increased agility and speed. Their footsteps are much more silent then of warriors and mages. They mostly use bows and daggers, swords also. They are quick in battle. They can backstab their unsuspecting victims, silencing them permanently. Now back to companions, they also have classes, depending on their class, they will wear armors for their class because they are more experienced in it. Also, they will each have their own story. One was a thief, one was cast away from his family, one escaped prison etc. and if we are friends with a certain companion, they will ask us to help them with something, which will give us a quest about their story, or origin. Example: companion finds out that he/she has a sister/brother he/she never knew about, and wants you to go with him to the place his brother/sister should be. And yes, if you go to an assassin mission, you should take a rogue with you. And depending on the orders, he or she will follow them. If you told them to attack if attacked, they will, but they will try to be sneaky as possible. You of course, dont have to take companions with you. When you go to your house (yes, at the beginning you find a cottage, ill get to this later), all of your companions will do something in the house. Someone will sleep, someone will eat, someone will read a book, and its completely random. So, one character shouldnt read the book all the time, he actually sleeps sometiems and even eats. When you try to exit the house a menu will come up asking you which and if you want to take companions with you. You can have maybe 2 companions at the same time with you. And also, some companions will try to kill you, if they fail, you can choose to forgive them and allow them to be in party again, kill them, or forgive them but not allow them to be in the party anymore.
9. hardcoe mode. Like in Fallout New Vegas. You can turn this off if its too hard for you. In this game mode, you have to sleep, drink and eat. Finnaly a usage for all the wine, beer and alcohol. If, however, you have nothing to drink, and you have to, if you find a lake, or a river, you can drink some water.
10. Better story that has different endings. At the end, you can die or live. You can be adressed as a hero, or on the other hand, as a villain.
11. The sounds in Oblivion for the powerattacks were so borring. Everytime I made a power attack i'd mute the audio first. I just hated the 'ARGH' 'HIYAAH' etc. sounds.
12. Better 3P camera, that is not centered, and has a crosshair.
13. Better armor pieces and clothing.

More choices, like if you want to be good or evil, kinda like in the fable games. I also would enjoy some mutiply endings but if we can't do that than one ending is just fine for me

MoBLoL, nothing at the beginning of the game is worth anything near 500 septims lol. Try maybe..60 to 100. At around level 15 you get about 500 septim items. I think that's pretty balanced IMO.

How about a realistic seasonal climate system too? Maybe Skyrim can thaw out in the spring/summer. I know that its not all snow and ice in Skyrim, but maybe have that snow line creep further down in the winter to include some of the valleys, and towards summer keep the snow for the higher elevations?

One item is not worth a 500 septims, but there is a goblin staff which is around 200, then iron cuirass which can be sold for 100-150, and I sold it because I mostly use light armor. Then there were all kinds of potions, and I am now level 3 and I have 2000 septims. Seasons would be great too. 3 ingame months = another season. The game would be much more dynamic. And of course, i hate it that if i am level 20 all the bandits are wearing daedric armour and instead of wolves i see dremora guards or something, forgot the name

I'd like to suggest the ability to be able to pick from preset faces. Kind of like in Morrowind. I know most will /lol and flame me for saying this but, I liked the faces in Morrowind a lot more than Oblivion. Just because they were unique. Tattoos, scars, piercings, etc, that was just fun. And it looked better.
Either that, or let us add in our own tattoos, piercings, scars, etc, on our own faces we make ourselves. That makes more sense IMO.

I think it'd be cool if we had preset heads like in Morrowind, but we were able to choose our own eye color, ear shape, hair, facial hair, hair color, scars, and tattoos. Pretty much a combination of what you just said. :D

I love how characters and npcs look so realistic in DAO. Id love to have such faces in TES:V...and of course better graphics. Oblivion was certainly an eye candy at some points, but the low resolution trees in the distance were just....ugly.

This ^ and if I can't add in a scar when making my character than again make it so we gain scars like if we are attacked with certain weapons like claws from werewolves or swords or arrors...
I want to be able to change the eye color as well, kinda like oblivion but I found the character creation to accually be kinda hard, Dragon Age's was a tad easier to work with so I would like that to be easier, oh n I want tattoos and well basicly what you qouted lol

Hard you say eh? I must have gotten pretty good at it because I make the most attractive people on that thing. I find it easy and I do not want them to change it. Just make the randomize button give us some good options.

I never use fast travel... that's just me. Fast Travel made things even more boring. IMHO, you should be able to transport between major cities, major ports, and maybe some important settlements that would have a method of transport. I'd prefer it if it was a scenic traveling method that you actually see happen, but I know that's not happening 'cause nobody really cares except for me.

if you mean live travel wioth other aspects involved then yes i agree with you we need several forms of fast traval each with diferent expences depending on wich one bots need suplies for long voyages and so you need to cough up a litle more horses need hay so you need to cough some more money up for that too and mabey air traval bethesda can come up with some type of lore that might fit and so thats another option so each place from a small town to a city will have some option of traval and we need an actual economy with trade caravans and you can gurd them or place your own goods in one after you buy horses and go along or if ur in skyrim mountan sheep the size of horses

What I mostly want for the next Elder Scrolls game is to be less predictable.

I' talking about stuff that happens for the player without knowing it, like:

- Finding old notes in caves/dungeons.
- People in need of help in the wilderness.
- Chance of getting robbed when sleeping.
- Chance of getting ill/disease when sleeping in low-quality beds.
- Some beggars will try to rob you, if you don't give the gold coins.
- Chance of vampires/thieves will attack you at night
and most of all, multiple dialog options.

It could be alot more interesting when exploring, even cities it would be a new experience. The player will never know who to trust when walking around town, and has to keep an eye on people.

Can crafts be possible please?

When roleplaying, the only ways to make money are either buying and selling stuff you've found, or the arena. The only things that you can really make and sell on are potions.

Would it be possible to become a swordsmith perhaps, or something like that, or own a tavern, and employ staff, stuff like that.

yes and have campsites YOU make and guards trade real trade with trade quests and an economy and you can own stores and sell armor and wepons and actuly harvest the items you need like furss antlers claws bone metal wood and mabey own some farms and estates and be able to biuld things from scratch and yes own a tavern and torches that when you drop them they stay lit and more money than gold add copper or bronze and silver wit diferent valuse like world of warcrafts money sysystum but for the elderscrolls and a actual pack wich can be hidden and diferent forms like a woodsmans pack or a merchants pack and stuff with mercanarys and you can hire asasins and you can typ the name in of the person you want killed and then a menu comes up showing the name spelled diferently with the caricters pic so you get the right dood and more quests and factions with actual leadership roles but definetly crafting and hireing people and building ownership like bisneses
