1. Money should be harder to get. In oblivion, just if you sell those things from dungeon you get about 500 coins which is too much for a beginner, right?
2. You can fast travel only by boats, carriages et cetera. When you choose to fast travel, you can watch all the scenery if you want. If not, you simply press a key for real fast travelling. Also, these methods will take you to cities only.
3. Better NPC dialogues, acting etc. Acting in oblivion is sometimes just BAD! Also, more dialogue options of course. In oblivion it was so stupid that at the beginning (and in most of the game) of the game, you have like 3 dialogue options, which are mostly questions, and you have to choose all three of them. Also, does our character always have to ask so many questions? Can't he give an opinion on something? Like, we initiate a conversation with an NPC, and he asks us about the weather, lets say. Why can't we give our opinion on the weather too? (just an example).
4. Scripting...early this morning I created a new character. I went to Anvil for my first time, and I initiated a dialogue with Caenlorn, its the little wood elf that has a twin brother. And he asked me if I can guess if he is Caenlorn or Maenlorn, I said Caenlorn (also, if you dont know NPCs names, its kind of rubbish that you can know their names altho its the first time you talk to them), and he said 'Right, you have remembered' although its my first time in Anvil.
5. I want my choices. If I go to Arena, I want to choose if I am going to be in Yellow or in Blue team. Same applies to quests (especially assassin quests), if I don't want to kill the poor old bastard, why should I? Can't I tell him to escape from, in this example, Tamriel, and tell my masters that he is dead? Also, I always imagined assassins as masters of stealth, always with their bows and arrows and daggers. Why do I have to kill my target by dropping the giant head on him (the mission in bruma). I want to sneak in his house, and stab him with my dagger or something.
6. If you kill someone, why do guards have to notice it ALL THE TIME? I remember doing the quest 'Paranoia' and I was sent to kill the girl...forgot her name. I was a low-level at that time, I snook in her house, took my sword out and attacked her, but instead of dieing she woke up and screamed 'GUARDS'. If someone is sleeping, I would love it if I could just stab him or slit his throat with one-shot kill.
7. In TES:IV the combat is mostly just hack-n-slash. Shield is not that useful as most of us would think. If you block an attack with your shield, you will still take damage, but less then you would take otherwise. Bows are too underpowered. Does it really take 10 arrows to kill a guard? No, it would take 1 or 2 arrows. I don't like comparing games and never will like, but just look at the combat system in Assassins Creed 2. You can counter attacks, if you do it correctly, you will be rewarded with a great finishing move. I want that in TES:V, I want to see how would it look like in first person. Back to shields, its kind of dissapointing that arrows can penetrate the thickest and heaviest shield. Also, its kind of stupid that arrows go through my characters head and neck...shouldn't he/she have died? If an arrow hits you in arm/leg/chest you should have a bloodwound and should lose health and have an impact on your movement/visibility/speed etc. Also, if a sword slashes you, youll still loose blood and health. If an arrow hits you in head or neck, you die instantly. Also, decapitations. It would be great if we could behead our enemies or something. Ill be back to beheading, when you are 50% fatigued you will move slower, do less damage and your attacks will be slower. When fatigued 75% you can fall on your knees, giving your enemy a chance to finish you quickly, to behead you or stab you, same applies to you, if enemy is fatigued too much, hell fall on his knees giving you a great opening. Fights don't have to last long if you know how to fight. Lets say, you are in an arena, your enemy uses a bow, you use a shield and a sword. You should think about how to kill him, 2-3 arrows can kill you, you should block his arrows and make a shield wall, while slowly approaching him, when you are close to him, just stab him or whatever you wanna do with him. Also, with a shield, you should be able to hit your enemy with it, with it, you have a chance of fatigueing him greatly, but only if your enemy doesn't pass resistance check.
8. Much more interesting npc characters. When you first talk to a character, you won't know his name, and neither will he know yours. Some characters can be your companions, some can teach you various skills, some will just be your friends, some will be merchants. Let's talk a little about the companions. Again, comparing, sorry, I don't like it either, but that way you can understand what the hell am I talking about. Before I bought Dragon Age Origins, that companion thing about it seemed like stupid to me. But to be honest, its really interesting. The companions were so fun to talk with, becoming friends with them. I just loved it, dialogues are done great, and also being able to romance certain characters is cool. Back to TES. Companions won't be useless as in Oblivion. Off topic here a little: when you create a character, you should have 3 classes: warrior, mage and a rogue. Warrior is an expert in weapon and shield and two handed weapons, so he gains bonuses when using those weapons and he can carry a little bit more than rogues or mages can at the same level of strength. They mostly wear heavy armor and are experienced in it gaining a bonus to armor. Mages mostly wear robes as they shouldn't initiate in close quarters combat, rogues wear light armors, gaining bonus to them. Rogues have increased agility and speed. Their footsteps are much more silent then of warriors and mages. They mostly use bows and daggers, swords also. They are quick in battle. They can backstab their unsuspecting victims, silencing them permanently. Now back to companions, they also have classes, depending on their class, they will wear armors for their class because they are more experienced in it. Also, they will each have their own story. One was a thief, one was cast away from his family, one escaped prison etc. and if we are friends with a certain companion, they will ask us to help them with something, which will give us a quest about their story, or origin. Example: companion finds out that he/she has a sister/brother he/she never knew about, and wants you to go with him to the place his brother/sister should be. And yes, if you go to an assassin mission, you should take a rogue with you. And depending on the orders, he or she will follow them. If you told them to attack if attacked, they will, but they will try to be sneaky as possible. You of course, dont have to take companions with you. When you go to your house (yes, at the beginning you find a cottage, ill get to this later), all of your companions will do something in the house. Someone will sleep, someone will eat, someone will read a book, and its completely random. So, one character shouldnt read the book all the time, he actually sleeps sometiems and even eats. When you try to exit the house a menu will come up asking you which and if you want to take companions with you. You can have maybe 2 companions at the same time with you. And also, some companions will try to kill you, if they fail, you can choose to forgive them and allow them to be in party again, kill them, or forgive them but not allow them to be in the party anymore.
9. hardcoe mode. Like in Fallout New Vegas. You can turn this off if its too hard for you. In this game mode, you have to sleep, drink and eat. Finnaly a usage for all the wine, beer and alcohol. If, however, you have nothing to drink, and you have to, if you find a lake, or a river, you can drink some water.
10. Better story that has different endings. At the end, you can die or live. You can be adressed as a hero, or on the other hand, as a villain.
11. The sounds in Oblivion for the powerattacks were so borring. Everytime I made a power attack i'd mute the audio first. I just hated the 'ARGH' 'HIYAAH' etc. sounds.
12. Better 3P camera, that is not centered, and has a crosshair.
13. Better armor pieces and clothing.
