TES V Ideas and Suggestions # 183

# 1

Please let us Fight on horseback. I was constantly getting annoyed when I was being attacked by ne'er-do-wells and not being able to defend my horsey.
agreed
# 2

Speaking of horseys, it would be awesome if I could pack them up with my junk. And, if I run out of room on my first horsey, I would like to pack up another horsey trailing behind my first ( via rope, of course). Wagons would also be nice.

also agreed, although in oblivion you could kind of do it. get Shadomere (th eimortal horse) kill him, and jput stuff in his dead body. When he wakes up, ride him. When you want your stuff back, just kill him again.

# 3

Wagons would be a nice change for the average horseback rider. I know you would need to design up another complex animation but a trailer for my horsey would be quite swell.
weird.. why would you want a wagon slowing you down?

# 4

Someone made a mod for "rope arrows". It sounds rather stupid once you read it, but after a quick consideration it sounds neat and instrumental--especially for sneaking people.

How about just a climbing ability

# 5

I WANNA DROP MY GOLD INTO PILES LIKE IN MORROWIND. Ahem, soz caps. Or was I just really angry? Who knows. But seriously, let me pile my gold up in my bedroom closet so I can feel better about my rl poverty.

# 6

Speaking of closets...actually...nevermind

# 7

Dear Bethesda, please bring back Mark and Recall. It was nice. I like.

# 8

Bring back the bank. I never played Daggerfall but I've heard of the bank there. I want it back...although i never had it.

agree up to here

# 9

Make the players map just fit the screen. I was getting pestered whenever i had to drag and drag and drag my cursor around the screen so I could find out where the nearest town was so I could begin my massive genocide of the day.

semi-agree. there should be many different zoom-levels, so you can zoom all the way out, scroll to the other side of the world in a few seconds, and then zoom back in.

# 10

Probably the most important thing i want from this game is for it to hurry up. I know you guys are busy sitting on your bums, drinking md, and making loads of well-deserved moolah, but I seriously want you people to hurry up (yes, you people!). It should take you four years to create a sequel. Anyways thanks for reading and acknowledging (and hopefully working on! >: ) my ideas.

They also made fallout in the time, and think that more time = more gameplay. aa day of making a game (after they've made a construction set) for the team still working on TES probably equates to an in-game hour or two.
His excellency, PandorasBoxorz

Alright, but other than sprinting, what sort of activity would be a speed skill that isn't almost entirely agility?

Speed would be applied to a number of less outright athletic, more refined "good with your hands", precision activities, such as lockpicking, trapmaking, first aid, and tracking (spotting of minute details while on the move). Agility would have more physical tasks like acrobatics, stealth, and light weapons.

Agility would have more physical tasks like acrobatics, stealth, and light weapons.
The precision I would automatically associate with the nimbleness of your hands I would automatically rush to the agility instead of speed, because you learn the speed through the training of the agility in these cases. Like typing, your fingers must be able to move and your mind must know where the keys are before you become quicker and quicker at performing the task. First aid and medicine I think require enough specific knowledge of what you're doing that the ability to do the action is secondary in the process and often not speed related in relation to medieval types of wounds. Tracking I feel would benefit in the spotting of details if you take a slower approach rather than the faster one.

Part of what I see are the speed skills from the previous games, and I'm sure you'd agree that there may be better attributes to cast them under to begin with.

Daggerfall had Dodging and Running under speed. Morrowind had Athletics, Hand to Hand, Short Blade, and Unarmored. Oblivion had Athletics, Acrobatics, and Light Armor. We can obviously see that running is the only real speed skill they see, the rest are dumped in there to make the attribute seem less ridiculous. It is laughable to think of the speed of your light armor wearability, or how speedy you need to be to jump in the air. Dodging is 100% necessary in the Agility attribute, Hand to Hand is better suited to Endurance, Short blade is far better in Agility, Unarmored is the Dodge skill in the closet, Light armor is no skill at all, and Acrobatics by any definition fits best in the Agility stat. I feel that we'd have to backbend to keep this silly thing of Speed as an attribute. Should we start a separate thread on the attribute discussion? I think Greenwarden has been cracking down around here a bit, but perhaps this is major enough across the games that it needs some resolution. I think we can get by without it, and by moving luck from the attribute list to being a perk in character creation.

Also in the series I would like to see candles with markings on the side for the time, so that in the evening people light their candles at the church bell marking the evening so they know the hours of the night.

Yeah, though in the end, it would be easy to re-assign most skills, since few things can be boiled down as simply as revolving around one attribute. Willpower and Intelligence probably blur together even more than Agility and Speed, Strength and Endurance overlap in places...Personality stands alone and usually ends up with fewer skills attached anyway. I usually prefer "find a way to make it work" over "remove it", especially with how much has already been taken out. This is partly why I assigned two attributes to each of the skills in my set; only one of them is raised by using the skill, but both are beneficial to it, and could theoretically improve it in different ways. Tracking might involve Willpower for attention to detail (seems closer than other attributes to "concentration" to me, anyway), but being alerted to the distant snap of a twig is connected more to reflexes/Speed. A weapon would benefit from Strength in the force behind the strike, but higher Agility or Speed would raise the chance of critical strikes due to being more able to quickly and accurately respond to openings. It could also help differentiate characters who use the same skill but with different attribute bases, like the finesse warrior versus the heavy skullcrushing type.

Let me say this i dont care how it happens, my characters WILL hunt down the supposed Collage of Whispers created by Greg keyes in the Infernal city novel.
The Mages guild and the Psijics of Artaeum will NOT disapear, my new characters in ESV will join the Dark Brotherhood in eliminating this creation or any other threats to the existing Lore of the Elder scrolls.
As an Aussie saying goes its flamin ridiculous to even to suggest it let alone removing iconic guilds and therefore alienating the fans.
By all means add the Forresters, An-Xheel, Archeology , the imperial navy, geograghical society to the guild lists of the future editions of the Elder scrolls,
However the collage of whispers is nothing more than a cheap attempt in providing the already blind ancestor monks with a speech impediment as an excuse to supplant the Mages guild this surely cant happen.
Emil, Matt, and Ashley please hear us on this one.

You adjust to different swords quickly. It doesn't take much skill at all. At least, for me.
But maybe I can be more lenient. How much more damage are we talking about? If it's like 2 or 3 points, maybe. More, and I'll have to use my superb useless speechcraft and mercantile skills to deal with you.

If you use the formula

(X+Y+Z)
________
N

X=skill with exact weapon
Y=skill with exact same type of weapon
Z=skill with that type of weapon
N=strength level

You can get a multiplier from this equation.
This is just an idea

Erm.... so a game that takes a year to make would take 356 days to get 100% completion on?

As an actual programmer, a better estimate would be that a day equates to a few minutes of gameplay (Note that most games take between 4-10 hours to beat, and about 20 to get 100% completion on. For the ES games, it's more like 30 days to get 100%), but trying to equate creation time to play time can only work as an average, because in practice you can spend days trying to get one thing to work right, and other days can knock out 13 quests. You really can't model it that way.

I forgot to put climbing in. That would be awesome.
Concerning the wagons: idk why I want them. It would just be cool if I could pack them up with junk; then make the game engine place those items so that I could see them. It would be nice to pack horses up without glitching too.

And on your rough estimation on how long a game makes: that's the worst guess I've ever heard. I could beat the entire Oblivion game--side quests 'n' all--in one day. Yeah I wouldn't have a social life, but I would get the job done nevertheless. No offense. Beeteedubs, I like your avatar.

The Suggestions thread needs some subtopics or something. This is thread 183, and there are thousands upon thousands of suggestions and ideas that are being disregarded or repeated because noone can find them. So many threads are locked or moved into this thread for the sake of organization, and its starting to drive me crazy finding a topic that isnt "The Ultimate 'whatever" or "What do you think of his". Everything that is worth discussing is moved or repeated and there needs something needs to be done. Moderators can only do so much, but moving everything into this or that is starting to add up into a big pile of mess.

If the comments were actually good, they would have been circulated throughout each forum. Each forum pretty much just condenses down until you find only the best of the best comments.

however if you also increase the weapon skill you increase damage.

And i did say it was an idea. It was whipped up in 30 seconds it isn't entirely thought out yet.

I mostly agree, until you end up with 6 pages of a 2 way conversation that goes off topic. With so many different subjects in 1 thread, add personal messages back and forth, and you have a hard time finding some of the good stuff. Because, lets face it, there is always something worthwhile thats being looked over. But i've made a suggestion to a mod, so I consider this exact topic mute for the moment. It really boils down to how many members like what.

Sorry, that was the first post I saw and over anolyzed it. But now I am wondering how the Damage is determined in the games, could anyone help me not-goggle it?

All that would be desirable, but it would be very hard to pull off and probably could not be handled by the current generation of consoles.

that is not true ..if you played games like assassins creed and new games coming out like 2 worlds 2 they can and will have to step it up nobody as of yet has even came close to maxing out what the 360 {xbox} or the playstation can handle ... i absolutely love bethesda they are by far my favorite game designers and with the exception of wet i have never really had a bad complaint about one of their games but if they want my money the next game they put out elderscrolls wise better have a much increased system. I only say that because though the oblivion was much better then morrowind the story and quests lacked comparatively, yes I desire a good story line and I felt this one with oblivion was not a driving force more of a bother really and tedious in multiple play through s, the story was much better in the additions {DLC}, but the mad gods world seemed unfinished to me it felt like they were rushed to do it .... having said that I still loved the game and still play it as i do with fallout 3 and will i am sure with fallout NV which i have pre ordered from gamestop with all the works lol,...i may be more excited about the book and canteen then is reasonable but that is just me ... i myself want better animations for the main character, a return or longpoles/ spears, would also love to see a vats type thing added to oblivion like they have in fallout... more homes available, better staff enhancements and looks {way too vanilla as of release}, more clothing (btw am i the only one who misses bone armor or the fact that clothing you had on peaked out of armor chinks in morrowind and gloves ), also the building of settlement especially ones you had faction affiliation, only 1 small type of that in oblivion and none in fallout at all, (sorry off topic with that).

Only thing is, they're all dead arn't they? maybe a hidden village of them deep underground or something and after you discover them you can play them on your next play through? But there is no indication that they are there on like the char. gen screen only after can you access it. Maybe you find out by talking to people or finding clues in dwemer ruins? that would be cool :P

Considering their fate, the Ayleids and even the Falmer becoming playable races seems more plausible. The Ayleids are, for the most part, assimilated into other Elven races, especially the Bosmer(notice Mankar Camoran's abnormal height for a Bosmer, anyone?), but there are likely surviving tribes of them somewhere in Valenwood. The Falmer likely faced a similar fate as the Ayleids, being ousted from the land they lived on by humans and shunned into remote tribes with many of them also being assimilated into other races.

I'd much rather see the current races be more fun to play. For god's sake, do Argonian's always have to have such useless skill bonuses?

As much as that suggestion might be disliked but I'd like to see more environments that are made to be purely decorative and not with the intend to put any stuff there.
Now I DON'T mean that you can't go there and that it should be empty, but just in the way that it's not designed as in "there will be tons of content placed here" but just as naturally appearing environments. This also doesn't mean they shouldn't put any focus on designing it but just more on having it set up well than have it be a place to put stuff into. It can still have content but more in the content was fitted in there and not it was build AROUND the content.

I'd like a ninja class :P. Super high speed/agility. Hand-to-hand, throwing weapons, sneak, and daggers :P plus some ninja abilities like disappear and silent footsteps and stuff like that :P

It'd also be nice if the classes themselves gave special abilities. Like battlemages get a unique combat spell, assassins get a unique sneak attack from behind, warriors get high strength, witch hunters get an absorb or reflect magic spell :P etc etc cool stuff like that. That way choosing a class actually has benefits. Maybe for custom classes, they have a list depending on what you put as your primary skills or something.

Here's another thought that could not just go to Beth but the Speedtree crew as well.

One thing that bugged me about speedtrees was that the billboards the textures where on moved but the leafs didn't, that kinda destroyed the illusion a bit.
One idea would be the animate the textures, have them vary randomly so it looks like the individual leafs move in the wind instead of the whole branch they're on. I think a randomization program could be possible that keeps varying the textures slightly between each frame and also controls the speed at which the texture changes depending on the wind speed in game (low wind speed fewer and slower changes, strong wind more and faster changes).

I made a little animation I put together in 3Ds, sadly it didn't turn out that good as they leafs move to uniformly but I think it can illustrate what I mean a bit:
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/7408/bltteranimation.gif

So now imagine additionally to the texture animation (which would vary more, I only made 3 textures and blended between them over and over) the billboards too move slightly but at a much slower and more gentle rate than they did in Oblivion, I think this would greatly enhance the illusion of it.

Another idea would be that not all billboards always face the player front on, they only do when viewed frontal, but if you're below a tree and look up they should be a bit distorted.
