TES V Ideas and Suggestions #186

Post » Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:01 am

I didnt directly meant people not replying to my post, I was refering to a moderator moving my seperate topic here. I intended to touch on every aspect of elder scrolls V, but appearantly they do not want to hear it.

That post was intended to grow rather large, just look at what I typed for character creation. That was just the beginning, I planned to also discuss many other things such as skills, classes, factions, horse riding, dialogue, magic, melee combat, ranged combat, random events, stores, friendships, armor and clothes all in the same amount of detail.

Its just not something to dump into a suggestions topic since its more of a complete overview, something I am willing to put a lot of time and work into. It deserves to be a topic of its own.

Thats allowed on the Bioware and Lionhead forums at least, this is really just giving me the idea that this topic is kind of a trashcan.

Moderators merge every thread suggesting thing for ESV into this thread. Its pretty much a rule. If everyone posted their own threads, no one could find anything in the section, it would be extremely cluttered. Its just good practice to post your ideas here, more people will see them, too, rather than in your own thread.

Wow I have never seen so many people busting on fast travel, just the other day I wrote to tell some1 I had never heard anyone bug out on it.. its always been an option, 1 you DONT have to use... thus being called an option (walk your happy ass everywhere), but me i drive a block to pick up a soda and a snack cake in real life, so if I "fast travel" in real life why not in game ? and quit using phrases like a real rpg'er come on, I havent played anything but rpgs for near 20 yrs, so am I not a real rpg player ? remember options are just that options if you dont like em dont use em, same goes for my car to the gas station for snacks and sodas lol, heck I wanna see fallouts VATS system in TES, once again as an option that I can use or not use, dont like it yourself ? use a little constraint and dont use it, but dont tell me what I should or shouldnt want in a game.

We dont like the fact that they remove the cool travel methods like Boats and [censored] like that. and if they put both its just point less so we want the slit strider back thats it.

I would like a return of being able to turn in to a werewolf in ESV, and also thats been stated before more vampire exclusive content. I would also like the lvling system to be redone or rescaled. and finally i would like more excotic terrain, lik it was in morrowind.

I would love it if they could have more of a merchant life. You make a character to start off as apprentice or some such and run a store (can also do your normal fighting and such). And they do more for rogue types. Also if they make arenas bigger or just add more to it. I like the gladeator type fights. And please fix the guilds and leveling...

You said it best; people just have to not be tempted to use fast travel. I resist it very well. In fact, I walk from city to city in-game; not run (shift + W). I mean when roleplaying, I think "okay, Vedaa isn't going to want to run to this other city because she's not being chased and she's not on any pending quest. So she'll just walk and sight-see)

Oh, if it's set in Skyrim, I want to be able to sled down a mountain side for fun. They had sleds in the medieval days, right?

As mentioned by many above I don't like fast travel. I'm aware I don't have to use it, but provide other means of traveling, for example the silt strider.

I also would like for quest markers and map markers to be toggleable (for lack of a better word). I miss the Morrowind days having to talk to people around town and read your journal to find out where you're going, and also have to use the paper map. It just helps with being immersed into the game more.

Even if they didn't, they should have sleds in the game. :tops:

The option of fast travel can be good, especially when playing through the game more than once. But yes, more means of traveling would be very welcome.

Mounted combat would make travel on horseback much more interesting, and when sailing by ship I would like to actually see the ship sail and have a journey with the option of skipping ahead to the arrival.

While traveling aboard the ship, there could be a small chance of a pirate attack. Either way you could train aboard to pass a little time, sleep, talk with the crew, and perhaps it could even be an option to own your own ship and be able to sail with it.

Stilt Striders might look out of place in Skyrim or other places, but magical teleportation between mages guilds could be there.

Crippled limbs is one major thing i'd want to see and then the restoration skill should be less powerful, such as not accually beeing able to heal fully your HP as long as you have a crippled limb.
Ex: Max hp when 1 limb is crippled: 90%
2 limbs: 75%
3 limbs: 60%
4 limbs: 45%
5 limbs: 30%
all 6 limbs: 15%

Restoration magic would not be able to heal crippled limbs until you hit 100 in it, if even then

SPEECHCRAFT:
To raise an NPCs disposition, you can spin yarns and recite poems and ballads. You can learn these and raise your speech craft skill by reading books or listening to other learn'd speakers. When reciting, the most effective joke / song / poem will be used. Possessing a musical instrument improves your chances of success when singing a song.

Positive responses:
-"Please, stop! My sides!"
-"What a wondrous tale."
-"I have heard it, but it's the way you tell them."

Negative responses:
-"I have heard that one before."
-"That's the oldest joke in the book!"
-"That's just not funny."
-"You need to learn the art of timing, friend."

Charm / Intimidate:
A character can use speech craft in conversation to flatter a person into a higher disposition and into divulging extra information. One's famous deeds also have a bearing on a charm offensive (e.g. "How could I resist the one who charmed his way into Lady Hallifor's bed?"). A character can use a combination of his speech craft skill and strength statistic to bully a person into giving up information. One's evil deeds also have a bearing on intimidation tactics (e.g. "I've heard rumours of the unspeakable acts you performed at the siege of Rune Top. I will tell you what you need to know, if you'll spare me!"

Hopefully this attempt will satisfy the whole Fast Traveling horde. I for one thought that FT was what made Oblivion shorter for me...I missed all of the good stuff out of it by doing so. In morrowind I hated walking so much....but at the same time deep down I LOVED it. It is true when people say, "It's an option to FT". True however, it's too tempting just to click on that city then to walk all of the way there. There should be like Fallout New Vegas, a hardcoe mode, where food, water, etc becomes essential, and Fast Travel disabled. They should include things like better designed horses, boats or whatever. This would be IMO the best way to go. Even though I'm sure Beth is already nearly done TES 5, I still think that they should go this way in terms of fast travel.

Dog sleds were there to help people crossing the land-bridge into North America. :)

If they don't make sleds, I'm sure someone will.

From what you said you actually prefer the pay to travel approach because you still have to pay for gas and you're in a vehicle which is kinda like the real life silt strider. EDIT: or atleast it seems that way but in my own opinion there should be stuff that is "like" the silt strider and boat if for nothing but to make the game a little more enthralling.

I like a more demonic vampire plus I would want there to be clans and quests and special outfits etc.

Yeah, demonic is okay, but I don't want to be playing a grandpa vampire the whole time.

I really liked how in the computer game, bethesda allowed for an auto walk key. I hope they keep this, or even expand it to console editions. The main reason I'm always tempted to use fast travel is I don't like walking down those straight roads for hours on end and just holding down the forward button- which i all travelling seems to be. I like just pressing a button and having my character walk... idk >.<

also there should be a quest where at some point a magician wabbajacks you and you have to go on a whole adventure to turn back into yourself from whatever random animal you were turned into
also vampires should float
