TES V Ideas and Suggestions #187

Don't know if this has been brought up before (never read through these threads, it's a bit too long of a read..), but I would like to see some kill animations. Assassinations and other cool things that could be enabled by the Gore Level (if adjustable/accessible).

I'm not flaming/raging so stop pretending that I am in order to get the mods after me.EDIT: Also he wasn't just saying how it "potentially" could be a good idea he was acting as if he knew for a fact just how hard or easy it would be to add the feature, so read up next time.

ok sorry then, it just sounded to me like you were trying to start an argument over something that didnt even need to be argued about, kinect may or may not be a good addition to TES, it has its advantages and disadvantages, but really the final decision is left up to beth, so it doesnt matter that much
but it did sound to me like you were trying to say you knew everything too, i was just pointing it out that we needed to calm down before bad stuff happened.

on another note, im going to just go out and say that in my opinion i wouldnt mind if the graphics arent improved hardly at all between TES 4 and 5 i just really want more immersive gameplay, every option is open to you (though how that would work w/ the main campaign between tes 5 and 6 would be a different matter) but i want to be on the evil side of the fight, or even the neutral side. it doesnt matter to me if i choose it just as long as the option is there

I have always wanted to have the freedom to find my own path in Oblivon and Fallout 3, but i've always felt like i've been caged in without any warning as to how and why i can't do something that the developer did not think of when programming that piece. I actually have an Idea for Bethesda, hoping that my need is achieved (not obsessive, but wanted):
randomized quests mixed with the standing quests in the world.
Bethesda, I know what you are thinking (not really), How does this kid know what the people want? I don't know that, but I'm an aspiring writer of fiction, and I LOVE to role-play. I have taken account of how others could like this as well. For example, If your character was walking through a forest, and suddenly sees a group of necromancers chasing a poor preteen Dunmer, what would you do? I always bring these questions to myself in mind when I play an Elder Scrolls game (strangely), but nothing of the sort comes.
If you're wondering how you could accomplish such a thing, Bethesda, I have an idea for the randomization of quests, the very heart and soul of any adventurer: try templating the randomizations, so the game knows what to do. For example:

Template: ItemRecovery (randomized, all templates within the limitations of your imaginations for templates)
Focus1: Necromancers (randomized, dependant of player's "renown" and diologe choices)
Focus2: A Conspiracy to overthrow Imperial rule over Tamriel (randomized based on actions the player had before the quest)
Focus3: A Scroll with names of dukes and duchesses, all written in blood (randomized within Focus2's guidlines, basiclly)
Focus4: Sending the scroll as a emergency message to Chancellor Ocato (randomized within Focus 3's guidelines)
Focus5: After 14 days, you gain a letter from the Elder Council, thanking you of informing them of this conspiracy, giving 2000 - 9000 gold depending on level. (randomized on the guidelines of Focus4)

Hopefully, you'll like this idea, Bethesda, oh-and I also want a Dual Wielding (using two weapons in each hand) system, but that's beside the point.
Whether you impliment my idea or not, is totally your opinion (i just love playing your games!!)

Oh, I forgot you work at Bethesda right? So you would know exactly what it takes to make a game like TES...

I am not sure how you want me to respond that. I didn't tell you that I worked on bethesda, I don't. And not exact but yes I have an idea about what it takes to make a game.

I didn't say a thing about how hard or easy it would be.
"it won't take any significant resource other than software development time."

There are facts and opinions in my posts, should I have to break them down? If you read my quote above you will see I just wanted to mention the resources for it to be in the software development time. That's all, you are free in not believing in me(and you have every right not believing some dude on some forum or even wikipedia). If you have information that I am wrong, please share, I will stand corrected.

I'm a person who goes by what is proven not said so untill you show me that beyond a shadow of a doubt adding kinect features to ES5 will not use resources then of course "I" don't believe you and neither will any other logical person. P.S. Of course I don't have information nobody has information on whether or not it will take resources from the game itself because TES5 hasn't even been released IF it even exists at all but nice try I see what you are doing if I can't prove you wrong then you think that makes you right but no sorry it doesn't ignorance is not a means to win a debate.

I want an "Ask the Devs" section so we can finally ask the people who created the games all the questions we have about lore. Doesn't FO3 have that?

How about you can randomly play as any of the NPCs in the game (which makes them PCs, I guess). The game just starts with you, as one of the NPCs (same name, look the same) standing at the point on the map where they usually stand with suitable attributes. In essence it's basically just a "random character generator" but you start at a different point - e.g. rather than starting on the ship in Morrowind, you'd just start in Balmora as a random local, or in Vivec as a guard, or wherever. You can still do the quests as normal, it would just really be a gimmicky way to start the game once you've got bored of going through the same start sequence several times.

Don't think it's a good idea. While it definately improves replayability, taking time to implement such idea is not worth.
A solution for the same start sequence getting boring is making it really quick and simple just like Fallout New Vegas did. If you wanna play the game and not have to do the tutorial you just start it and right after you finish the character generation you just leave the building or location you are and go explore the world.
If someone wants the tutorial he just goes to a certain NPC and talk to him so he can take you through the tutorial quest.

You are misquoting me, again! I never said, "won't use resources", I said "any significant resource if programmed right other than software development time."

You are questioning my title instead of my arguments. What kind of titles are working for you? I don't think I will be qualified for you.

You are accusing me of ignorance when all I did was sharing my knowledge. I am not trying to win anything.

Kinect received positive reviews. Kinect could add a lot to combat experience. If my title "forum user" is enough to post it here, I want to share my amateur opinion that it won't take any significant resource if programmed right other than software development time. It can be like vats so it won't have to be active at all times.

It is too bad Microsoft removed the internal chip from Kinect's hardware. Still this 10 percent can get better with software updates. Also for PCs it will be a lot better.

Although Kinect is more than your average controller, it is still only a controller. It is made to be integrated into action games. The integration will be an emulation/extension of existing controls. It will take software development time, because how to use it is not known exactly. Some tutorial files for kinect features on disk will be needed and animation files for possible Kinect moves.

Correct me in things I am wrong or share your opinions. Or disagree with me. But please don't come with "who are you?" or other personal remarks.

Thanks and suggestions from Russian fans community

Hail, dear Bethesda Softworks, long life to you!

You're written by TES series' fans from Russia. First and foremost, we'd like to express our belated thanks for Morrowind. We are literally brought up on this game, and the game brought new surprises and discoveries from year to year, revealed to us countless times as we grew older and wiser. We have not still fully explored this huge wonderful world. Your desire to maximize the similarity between life in the game and human life is completely justified. Thank you for giving us the Fairy Tale, into which one can dip as into a pleasant dream, controlling his actions in it. Your imagination is admirable. The diversity and the peculiarity of architectural styles, landscapes, faunae and races makes us glad. Special thanks for the in-game books. Such a considerable cultural layer cannot be found in other games. We've read all in-game books with great pleasure. There is no precedent for graphics. Even now graphics haven't lost the irresistible appeal (though, of course, playing without MGE is already unusual).

Oblivion was a bright star in the sky of game industry. Though it doesn't possess the charisma of previous parts to the full, it is as close to the real life, and the fascinating storyline is walked through in a burst of inspiration. The Shivering Isles stuck in our memories forever as the most original and fun expansion pack throughout the history of TES. It's a pity that old Sheogorath is gone...

News about the creation of The Elder Scrolls V delighted us. The whole world together with you wants this game to become the greatest in the history of RPG and to keep it up for years. Rumors that you're going to release The Elder Scrolls V in 2011 reached us. Please don't be in a hurry to release it in the next two to three years. Firstly, it seems to be the last game of TES series, and we as fans of the series since TES: Arena want the last game to absorb all the best from the past and stay in fans' minds for a long time. Secondly, from the same rumors we knew that you're going to recreate in the game not only Tamriel, but also Akavir, Aldmeris and other continents of Nirn, and it can hardly be done during one year in the acceptable area scales (Arena, Daggerfall). Thirdly, during the year one cannot test TES V and fix all bugs. We doesn't wanna TES V to follow the example of Gothic 3 in the number of bugs.

You are probably interested in reading the wishes of old fans, which will help you to make the game as close to ideal:
1. The faces of NPCs shouldn't always be similar to human ones. The main thing is that they ought to be smooth and beautiful. The proportions of bodies should be more graceful. E. g., there is no need for making argonian faces similar to human ones, the main things are beauty and proportionality.
2. Add make-up, tattoos, hairstyles, nice dresses and shoes to the game (in order not to wait add-ons). We want to see more opportunities for player and NPCs to be distinguished.
3. Allow the player to visit balls, masquerades, racial and religious feasts, orgies, etc.
4. Add a realistic change of seasons and a realistic change of constellations in the night sky.
5. Change the battle system. Add advanced combos. Not as in Japanese shooters, but amazing. Strikes may be controlled by a mouse, as in Mount & Blade.
6. We'd like you to recreate the entire Nirn, all its continents. We want to see the same Vvardenfell with new graphics and historic changes occurred since the events of TES III.
7. Add more riding animals. Let the original riding animals for each province. Add races of harnessed horses and battles on horseback.
8. Add more wild and domestic animals, fishes, birds, insects... Of course, each province or continent should have its own flora and fauna.
9. Add the possibility of romantic relationships and marriages in the temples.
10. Please remove fast travel. In Morrowind, one had to come afoot (or ride on horseback with the plug-in) and explore that awesome world, it was very interesting. In Oblivion, you could move from one corner of the map to another in a few seconds, the interest to explore the world disappeared altogether.
11. Add more manually created interiors, exteriors, NPCs. With the automatic generation they all become "cardboard". We want every town to have something special, its own history, lord, celebrations, to be unique. We want every NPC to be worked out in detail, unique, to have at least personal daily routine.
12. Add the possibility of full-fledged walkthrough not only for warrior, magician and thief, but for "diplomat", for example. The player should have the ability to complete the game without bloodshed if he wish.
13. Add more interesting and original quests to the game. Please add intrigue and detective stories... Even though many quests will be generated automatically, they should not be repeated and dull. Suppose the game has the quest to escort the caravan of traders that goes from one city to another. To obtain this quest, the player needs to have the specified reputation, e.g., in the Fighters Guild. This caravan departs late at night. This quest has several solutions. The first choice is simply to escort the caravan along the way and not to be attacked. The second choice is more interesting. If you are attacked on the way, you have to fight against the brigands or to escape. In the first case, your reputation will increase, in the second case it will go down. If you fought bravely, you can get extra money. The third option: you beat off the attack, but the owners of this caravan were killed by rogues. In this case, the reputation will remain the same, and you will receive all the wealth of this caravan. The fourth option is to attack the caravan yourself on the way. In this case, your reputation will decrease considerably, but you'll get the property. One way to take this quest is to go to the trader in town and ask him for work. The second way: you just go along the road, meet the caravan and the owner hires you to work as a guard.
14. The interface should be done similar to Morrowind that was not so console-oriented. The interface of Oblivion was obviously overloaded, and according to our observations the players gived Oblivion up because of its too cumbersome confusing interface.
15. Bring more dynamic system of artificial life into the game (e.g., such as in the game Stalker). All animals and daedra ought to live their own lifes otherwise to spin around the player. Radiant AI in Oblivion was far from ideal.
16. Add more opportunities for crafting (not only alchemy). We want the ability to create weapon, armor, disassemble and assemble them (e.g., this is implemented in the game Evil Islands).
17. Give us lots and lots of dialogues as in Planescape: Torment. TES are role-playing games, not action. In Oblivion there were too many battle scenes and too little real life.
18. Banol advice: we want branching story line with many endings. It is important to make whole world exploration interesting. Player should be interested in enjoying the nature and taking screenshots. Add the ability to seize the territory afterwards. Also, it will be interesting to trace the fate of Nerevarin.
19. Bring into TES V full story line for werewolf. Add lunar cycle for werewolf, e.g., every full moon will be transformations for several days.
20. Add vampires. Beautiful, not like in Oblivion. Also bring primary needs into the game: usual food and sleep for humans, bloodthirst for vampires and passion for human flesh for werewolves. Add full story line for vampire. We would like to see many clans that are located in the net of catacombs under cities. Each race should have its own peculiarities: nord vampires ought to be covered under the ice of frozen lakes, bosmer vampires may turn into swamp mist, imperial vampires with proper nutrition shouldn't differ from usual men.
21. Add more caves, ruins, temples, tombs and tangled places for exploration. Make efforts to ensure that caves varied significantlyю Player should be glad to explore them all. Add horror to make exploration of some areas by far more interesting (like the cemetery of orcs in the game Gothic). Add realistic dark dense forest.
22. Important note: make gamma like in good old Morrowind. In Oblivion, the gamma was too bright, and it looked like colorful World of Warcraft. We wanna see TES V darker than Oblivion. Perhaps, the secret of the atmosphere and the commercial success of Gothic game series is in the dark gamma. TES games must be better than Gothic, mustn't they?
23. Add to the game the best ideas from plugins of TES III and TES IV. It will help modmakers not to reinvent the wheel and will help gamers not to search'n'download plug-ins. The best plug-ins in our humble opinion are "Necrom", "Better Bodies", "Children of the Night", "Windows Glow", "Sea of Destiny".
24. Economy. In Morrowind, it was easy to become rich soon, then some interest to play vanished. We does not want to see it in TES V. One of the most economically balanced game is Gothic II. There the player during the first half of walk-through lacked for gold, he was to work, to collect plants, to explore dangerous forests and caves, etc.
25. There was the opportunity to build a castle walking through the Great House story line in Morrowind. In TES V, we'd like to have abilities to get castles or estates walking through the story line of the most important guilds. The best idea is to allow player to choose the architectural style, size and interier of the building. You can provide a catalog with a variation of five to ten fundamentally different kinds of estates with the possibility of placing them in different places (in the city or countryside).
26. The game needs to be balanced. In Oblivion, player got armor and weapons depending on his level. Unique weapons, obtained at a low level, became unnecessary with the lapse of time. Let the loss of unique weapons in TES V depend on the current level of the player. Also, one could get 92% of the physical attacks reflection in TES IV. Thus NPCs died after a certain time of attacking the player. Chameleon also needs to be fixed. Please make impossible for player to get 100% effect. It will be better to set the constant effect of spells at 50-60%, the rest should be the temporary effect of magic scrolls. Also, if your marksmanship in TES IV is 100, you become a god: one shot gives paralysis or fall of NPC. This needs to be fixed, too. Also, if player has an average skill of illusions, he is out of reach. That's the obvious cheating!
27. If you'll have enough strength... Please develop multiplayer (not MMORPG!) - an ability to play via LAN or the Internet with friends, ride together around the world on horses, etc. Another idea is to make something like Star Wars: Battlefront in Nirn. Divided into two clans players are trying to seizure each other's cities. You can control the ballista, catapults and other military machines. Wins the clan who has seizured the central tower or the clan who has killed all enemies. Next idea for multiplayer is to simply add an arena where players can measure their strength and fighting skills with each other.

Russian TES fans.

I hope they put children into the game. Oblivion lost a lot of atmosphere because of the lack of children. gamesas could make them immortal like in fallout 3, or maybe the player could kill them, but then be cursed and have to do some major tasks to get rid of the curse.

Also there needs to be a more seedy underworld. How about a faction that competes with the thieves guild, but does nasty stuff like drug dealing, hooligan sponsoring and profit-motivated assassination.

edit:
also randomly-generated, nameless npcs that wander cities to make them look more crowded (like in Assassin's creed or fable) -- probably too complicated to implement in a user-friendly manner.

This. Sadly they removed child characters from Morrowind, adn despite our arguments didn't implement them even in Oblivion. You could blame it on the times we're living, but I think it's just an excuse since many games series have always had kids.

In Daggerfall there were only few kids, but they were essential parts of quests, surroundings and immersion. Exorcism quests for the temples were nice, you never knew about those damn kids.

I'd like to have somewhat oyf a free run system kind of like assassins creed but not as in depth.

Bring back levitation.

Alot more guild quests.

Odd Jobs like running stores, diplomats, mercenaries. That kind of stuff.

(IGN gave the device 7.5 out of 10, saying that "Kinect can be a tremendous amount of fun for casual players, and the creative, controller-free concept is undeniably appealing", though adding that for "$149.99, a motion-tracking camera add-on for the Xbox 360 is a tough sell, especially considering that the entry level variation of the Xbox 360 itself is only $199.99".[77] Game Informer rated Kinect 8 out of 10, praising the technology but noting that the experience takes a while to get used to and that the spatial requirement may pose a barrier.[76] Computer and Video Games called the device a technological gem and applauded the gesture and voice controls, while criticizing the launch lineup and Kinect Hub.[75])

That was from your wiki link, not to mention the phrase "casual gamer" was involved which last I checked TES wasn't a casual game.EDIT: aslo any resources includes "money" not just game resources which in my opinion to use either just to pander to a conformist society that not too long ago saw games as only being for nerds "I" (and I don't speak for anyone else but me) but I find it offensive the very idea that they would kick the die hard gamers to the curb just to appeal to those fad following trend monkeys.

The only useful way i could think of for the Kinect in the Elder Scrolls series would be alchemy, lockpicking, or something of that nature...

First games arrived with Kinect were designed for casual gamers. This is probably about the time spent for those games being relatively small compared to AAA action game titles with cutting edge graphics. TESV could be a Kinect title that is filling that gap. Killzone 3 will support Move for example.

Kinect is just a controller. Keyboard+Mouse, gamepad, joystick or Kinect. I don't think a controller can define hardcoe gamer. One can specialize on each as hardcoe as it gets. It is like saying hardcoe players only play with CRT monitors. As a nerd I am, kinect makes me excited about possibilities.

Microsoft claims Bethesda Softworks is working on kinect titles, that doesn't mean much, maybe if they said BGS is working on kinect titles... Still it can be a hint.

Time is money, I know that. Kinect customizers can reach and exceed 4 million before 2011. It already sold 2.5 million units, and add another 2.5 million for Move. If a game like TESV supports Kinect/Move, I bet every one of them would be willing to buy a game like this. That's a lot of money too.

So I proposed a vats like system for this. It could be completely optional this way. It would be absurd to think the game being a kinect only title requiring you to stand and make gestures all times.

PS. This was a lot better conversation. :)

@menes40,
Can you elaborate that? What do you have in mind for alchemy and lockpicking?

@menes40,
Can you elaborate that? What do you have in mind for alchemy and lockpicking?

If they make TES a kinect game I'm just gonna stop being a gamer altogether I'm a gamer not a conformist, and I didn't say time is money I said money is a resource. EDIT: (Kinect for Xbox 360, or simply Kinect (originally known by the code name Project Natal),[7] is a "controller-free gaming and entertainment experience") also from the wiki link, kinect is a joke for little kids and people who enjoy making themselves look stupid and I'll be damned if i'm gonna be a part of it.

I've heard it's accually illegal to make games where you kill kids. This does however not stop them from being a big part of the world in TES games, which they have not been so far. I'd like to see more kids than they had in fallout 3, most couples should have a kid or two.

ok now your just trolling, IF kinect is implemented, it would be VERY unlikely that it would be required, and if you really think its a joke and its just for kids then your just being close minded and just plain silly, sure there are currently no games that interest me for the kinnect but that doesnt mean its trash, theres still potential for them to come out with some game with some cool features, if there are some features in tes i could care less, Beth is a good company and im sure that if they decide to and any features, it will be done well.
and btw that post made you sound like a child throwing a temper tantrum. if your not even willing to test something out and just say its garbage you shouldnt be on this forum because we're all trying to be open-minded about what could happen in tesv, and your obviously not.
i dont intend to be mean but your sort of coming across as a bit of a stinker about this. perhaps we could move on or something?

You sir are a total [censored] hypocrite by all that you just said the only reason you're even saying that is because you DO want the kinect to be implemented into TES and because I won't jump on the damn band waggon.EDIT: watch out people if you say anything bad about this guy's ideas you'll be labled "a troll". Would you eat a live rat? would you play russian roulette? would you sacrifice a goat? if you said no to any of those things then YOU ARE CLOSED MINDED......see I can play that game to I can call anyone who doesn't share my views closed minded as well.
