TES III: Keening - Indie Expansion Q&A FAQ

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 7:35 am

Hi folks!

Keening Chapter 1 (of 10): Keening City will be ready for release/ play-testing in about a week. So, I'm going to build a FAQ page on my website, and I'm opening this topic here for questions if anyone has any, or any questions that you think people might ask. I will be opening a thread for RELz Keening Part 1: Keening City and WIP Keening Part Two: Keening Expanded in a week or so. I've worked on this project mostly on my own since Dec 2011, so it was designed to be detailed, interesting, and compact rather than focusing on scope. Be as blunt, repetitive, or challenging as you like with the questions - I'm opening it to the floor to sort things out before anything gets released. Right now, I'm looking for questions - once it is released and people can play it, I'll be looking for criticisms and suggestions.

Concept: Keening is designed to be my personal vision of what an expansion pack might have looked like if the Beths never stopped making them. Keening was inspired by the idea that a very fresh experience could be created by building off a small number of required mods. Exploring interesting aspects of the Lore, such as the fact that it is now known that the Ministry of Truth will fall from the sky, resulting in the destruction of Vvardenfell, inspired the basis behind Keening's Lore. Keening provides me, as a modder, with my own landmass and Lore from which to launch every modding idea that I have within a cohesive whole. Ten chapters that expand the plot and the world will be released. I hope that people will get a lot of enjoyment out of it, but most of all, I hope that it brings me to meet some amazing and talented people.

Because it isn't a modder's resource, it would have to be activated, yes.

However, you will not need to visit the store that is added, and I'm thinking about making a "compatibility patch" that moves the store to an exclusive location that you won't see unless you want to visit the store. Out of respect for the creators, I'm not going to delete or modify anything in the mod. Moving it for "compatibility" seems like it could be done without insult. I think the store is an amazing build and I recommend people check it out, even if just by teleport or COC on an "unofficial visit." But if I'm requiring it, I can certainly make a patch for compatibility, and this goes for Clothiers of Vvardenfell as well.

As for the "balance" issue, I am aware of the problem and will probably create new unique objects that don't change the original mod, but allow for more balanced usage of its components. Not everything from this mod will appear in Keening. One of the things I'll be asking of my play-testers will be input on re-balancing some of the armor that is for sale in Keening. A great majority of the armor and weapons from Gothic Attire will appear in later chapters, such as Deadlands, so I have some time to sort that out. Some of the suits of armor from this mod that I want to be for sale in Keening have been moved to a temporary location until they are needed for story or can be rebalanced. What you will see in chapter one are some clothing items and uniforms for the types of "town guards," who are already wearing versions of the armor that has been rebalanced/ repriced - by creating unique objects without altering the original items from the mod. I've written into the lore of the city as to where these unusual types of dark armor have come from.

Thanks!!
