TES III: Project Outreach: The Province of Elsweyr QA

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 5:25 pm

A bunch of huge buildings that take up a very large amount of space, hence my using them as an example.
huge empty buildings. there's less faces in vivec than there is faces on rocks and trees in some regions. an actually city wold be crawling with small buildings, containers, clutter and all sorts of things, things that would cause problems on your computer.

What? You mean it's between 3 and 18 times the size of Balmora? That's a pretty big range there.

typo, i meant 4.

There shoutldn't be a huge worry about it killing your fps. I am trying to incorporate ideas into my concept that will go into the actual city that will save some fps. Such as some small gathering areas like the tree in Chorrol. Y'know, a nice cleaned area to give some buffer zones to the intensive areas. Oh, and who could forget interiors acting as exteriors?

Another reference: MGE with a draw distance of 5 cells should allow one to see across the whole city.

You know its not really hard to think of a way to getting to Elsewyr, its called a boat, you take it from one of the major port cities on vvardenfell like sadrith mora or ebonheart to Senchal, not that hard to understand >.>

Touching Vanilla is something we don't wish to do. A mage in a guild interior is the most viable option.

...adding a boat isn't going to destroy the entirety of vanilla Morrowind...

But it could create an incompatibility with so many mods. Either way, I think if someone wants a boat, they can do it themselves IF we don't.

Yes because there are totally no popular mods that change the MG

> Rise of House Telvanni

Or you can pull a tribunal and have a emissary from Elsewyr visiting morrowind who offers traveling to snechal or someplace.

Okay, the size is now definite. It's less than originally thought. Not by much. Okay, Senchal is going to reside within 17-18 cells. It would only take up about 12-14 cells of space if it was made square. Good 'nuff?

That does not sound at all like too much for the largest port city in Tamriel. I would expect a large part of it to be taken by docks then. Or by ducks.

Tonal Architect is always so concerned about how things will fit into Lore. Lore states that Glow-Sticks are not part of Lore. So, it seems to be a legitimate concern.

Okay, questions -

How many people do you have on the team? Can they come introduce themselves or are they Secret People?

Who came up with this project, and who is in charge of it now?

With a few provinces remaining wirthout teams, why did you choose this one? It is a particular adoration for Khajiits, or is it another reason?

Hmm, so far we only have a few. Like literally only about 6. The main reason is because we just started and don't have much done. And they can introduce themselves anytime they wish. They just haven't. You should know at least three of them. Rattfink333, The Khan, and me! The others may or may not be known. Except one. I'll leave it at that...

Who came up with this project, and who is in charge of it now?
Well, pROvAK initially had an idea for a project. Then I had some forums that could have easily been turned to use for us, eventually, I became the guy who handles the data files and such. And the first admin of the forums. BUT, really, I have no idea who is THE admin.

With a few provinces remaining wirthout teams, why did you choose this one? It is a particular adoration for Khajiits, or is it another reason?
We initially were going to do a totally new land, but someone had an idea for something to do with Nirn, then I brought the idea up of making a province. Elsweyr was the best choice because it wasn't huge. Simple as that. Then more factors came in. More resources, AND P:C is doing Cyrodiil. They are pretty reasonable and will give us info on their final border cells when the time comes. Black Marsh wasn't really viable as well for many reasons. Borders being the big one. Hammerfell was for the same reason. High Rock is Gortwog's domain, and Valenwood again, borders. Summerset Isles has the "far from 0,0" problem. Elsweyr was the prime area if you think about it.

See? I can answer ALL questions!

yes, but does it BLEND??

Hehe - thanks, good answers. Keening's exterior is only 26 cells, 10 of which are coastline/ ocean, so I can't even imagine working on a province. Good luck to you!!

And he gives the occasional good suggestion. We are keeping this within lore for sure. Nice thing is, Khajiit lore gets fairly wild  . And we won't have a bunch of people screaming down our neck insisting we make it just like the latest game(at least for now)

Too bad for those who would like us to keep ALL post-Morrowind lore. They can...leave. What I think is funny is that I like all of SGM's suggestions. Every time he makes one, it ends up being something that just creeped into my train of thought.

So, not sure if true or is, but I heard all your textures are from a guy going outside and taking pictures of the ground with his camera, is this true? Also that you have done completely nothing since you got the 30 cells for the showcase that you promised to do.

Well no because taking pictures to use as textures is idiotic, you're suppose to create them not just take pictures and turn them into a DDS which brings up another thing I heard, that someone turned said photos into a tng which isn't the right file type, now is that true?

tng? the only formats that work in morrowind is bmp, tga, and dds. I use dds/dxt1 with mipmaps....now to edit the muddy bootprint...i think it needs to be BIGGER!

There are a lot of video games that use photos as a base for some of their textures. If applied properly, it can look very good. In fact, I have seen the technique used very successfully in a lot of mods in Morrowind mods as well. Not everything has to be drawn pixel by pixel, especially now that we can work in higher resolutions.
