TES III: Project Outreach: The Province of Elsweyr QA

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 9:17 am

Okay, maybe some of you have heard of us and maybe you have looked around our forums. Maybe neither. Either way, I have started this thread with the intentions of answering any questions to be had regarding our plans, team, work, etc. Basically, this is a Q/A thread for the community to ask any questions they wish. All questions will be answered within reason. I haven't seen many mods do this and I figure its actually a good idea to do this before we actually make a WIP thread. So, to answer the questions I don't want asked: We are creating Elsweyr in Morrowind. Yes, it will be compatible with any other province mods. And yes, we are going to be lore-friendly.

Any other questions? Ask away, I will answer all of them! (If I can...)

How will we be able to travel there? And what will the Main Quest be like?

Travel there isn't really discussed too much yet but so far I believe it will require you to get there by walking or something similar. And the main quest? Lets just say that you simply walk into a city to start it off. Then you must...investigate what just happened.

Yes, we will. The first release will be pretty small, I believe. Just Senchal and some surrounding wilderness. After that, expect them to be on a large scale like TR.

I'd like to be able to take a Silt Strider there if possible.

I did notice your forum a bit back. Seems pretty interesting!

What kind of beasts and creatures may we find?
Will you make all the different Khajiit races?
How will you handle the Khajiit pantheon?
What guilds will be included?
I guess you guys are saving the cyrodiil borders for last, but have you thought of a nice way to make the change of nature natural? Rimmen seem to be a desert themed city, and that's very close to the border.

Obviously the walking option would be for those using TR. Everyone else can take a carriage or something.

I couldn't see any silt striders in Elsweyr. Even in my imagination. I wouldn't think Morrowind would have transports from there to Elsweyr. We really don't want to touch vanilla Morrowind. Maybe a wagon would be available to take you there...On the mainland. Well, at any rate, maybe in the future the Mages Guild will let you go there?

1. Well, in the tropical Tenmar Forest, you could expect snakes definitely. The next animals listed aren't really confirmed but are educated guesses: Large Scorpions (not fallout huge), maybe some reptilian creatures, and amphibians as well. No specifics. In the desert, not much is planned yet for that. Maybe if I could guess: sandworms, more scorpions, large lizards and such. Not much in the way of wildlife has been discussed. Maybe by tomorrow more will be known.
2. Yes we will.
3. It will be very prevalent in Elsweyr cities that aren't right on the border to Cyrodiil. Especially Dune, Senchal, and Torval. It won't be all chopped up.
4. The Dark Brotherhood is definitely there. The fighters' Guild and Mages' may be there. Not completely sure on that one. The Renrijra Krin will be un-joinable but there. More on this soon.
5. The borders to Cyrodiil are going to adhere to whatever P:C will end up doing. Maybe grasslands or sparse forest. Rimmen will not be desert themed either. It's likely to be Imperial since the Imperials have a large presence there.

Why is it called "Outreach"? Without context, I just think of the common usage of the word, as in Community Activism/ Support, like for alcoholism. I'm sure you meant something else, lol.

1. Not very big right now. We are still early in development.
2. No. They are believed to be extinct.
3. Yes.
4. The Quin Rawl Peninsula. Senchal to be exact.

You are correct. we want to cure the Khajiit of their moon sugar abuse. :D

No, really, it was initially the name of a project to add a new land somewhere. Now its used to suggest we are reaching out and implementing the farther provinces in the game. In this case, Elsweyr. I was thinking of suggesting a name change but it wasn't too bad and it's too late now, eh?

Well, not to put too fine a point on it, but it's kind of difficult for it to make sense while avoiding touching vanilla Morrowind at all. My suggestion is to have the player hire a ship to take them to the mainland, and make some kind of cinematic that shows the player sailing across the Inner Sea, and then taking carriage, which takes them across part of Cyrodiil to the border with Elsweyr. Wouldn't be too intrusive I think.

That's why I suggested the Mages' Guild. I don't want to create so many incompatibilities but I figure placing an NPC couldn't hurt could it? ...

uhmm, go with this, for sure!

i've heard about a small mod that's been worked on (can't remember who by) that chooses the province you start on/mainland of Morrowind, so once there's more provinces there will be that too.

I knew it.

I feel bad for the guy that has to write all that Khajiitspeak dialogue. It smells me! Why doessss it smelll me?? purrrrrr

Ah, that makes more sense - thanks for clearing that up.

I was thinking of suggesting a name change but it wasn't too bad and it's too late now, eh?

Never too late. I'm going to change the name of my own mod to "Adventures of Girls in Pretty Dresses: Dagon Fel Down and Can't Get Up" Orrr.... ehm... maybe not.

I'm sure you will all figure out a good way for players to get their lil' bodies over to your region to check it out. And even if you just walk through Tamriel Rebuilt and Project Cyrodiil to get there, I'm sure there will be modders who will make fast-travel options, same as have been created for Tamriel Rebuilt. A mod like that would take less than five minutes to make.

Question: How do you guys feel about all the new Khajiit varieties that Westly has created? Obviously, you probably can't use them, but Westly's work is so good, I would be intimidated trying to create new Khajiit races as alternatives.

Some of westly's items are just great and would be awesome to have but as you said, meh. We have a good idea of what we want to do with them and our 'ole buddy Le Grimacier is pretty good from what I see so I figure "WE CAN DO IT!"

That made me laugh so much hahahahahahahahaahha!

On another note; Will any of the Khajiit Deities be included in this? Or how about Legendary ruins, artifacts, or character's Khajiit related?

Yes. The pantheon will be very much cared for here.

Something like that. The empire will be less prevalent in towns such as Torval, Orcrest, and Dune but others will be "tainted" by the empire.

Me likey! xD

on a finale note: Are those saber-cat mounts gonna be in this. Regardless whether they are mounts or not isn't relevant, merely curious if they will be present.

It is mentioned in the books that they are a form of Khajiit, but almost completely animal like, with the inability to speak.

Why, yes. Yes they will. Not as mounts probably, but there all the same.
